Never pay of mine either. And no, I didn't like GF that much; I liked Goodfellas more, but the "consensus" loves it (as it also does Goodfellas).

But I was referring to when you said, "another gangster movie.. beaten to death subject....falling asleep"...

Clearly, you must be young and fail to realize that Goodfellas inspired just about every gangster movie that proceeded it of the 90s and 2000s, and many may not have even been made without it.

It's actually also a contemporary heist movie that inspired other non-mafia heist movies the way that part of the film was done.

At the time it was released, only the Godfather was really considered a great mafia/gangster movie. But since it, yeah, those two inspired dozens. So you must not have been an adult or perhaps born yet when it came out to think it's "just another gangster movie". Lol

You're assuming that I like any of those dozens of gangster films that might have drawn inspiration from Goodfellas. But thing is, I didn't watch most of them. And yeah, I only watched Goodfellas last year. I think the movie didn't age well, unfortunately.

Well, people who know great acting, writing, directing, and filmmaking all disagree with you. It's a classic and one of the best, without question.

Personally, though, I prefer a bunch of others and only watch it every several years. Bit if I never saw it before, it's a must watch. Took me 2 tries to get into it too when I was younger, but it's a great movie. If you never saw the whole thing, especially the last hour, then you don't know anything and can't talk about it credibly.

That's cool. I can also respect that you think your taste is better than mine.

If you think Good fellas is "an average movie", you're not a good judge of movies and you have 0 credibility. It's just the way it is, not my opinion. Go study the reviews of it and learn for yourself. Don't take my word for it.

I would tell you, but honestly I am confusing Goodfellas, Casino and A Bronx Tale, personally I am bigger fan of newer school like Blow, Departed (HK original sucks hard) or Donnie Brasco, though those 3 mentioned are very HQ movies especially at time of release, though using same actors all over just adds to confusion and decrease my impression from movie, when I can't tell 3 movies apart, grr... Meanwhile I remember very clearly smuggling in Blow and Donnie Brasco again with Depp and Pacino, yacht, etc., can't say same about those 3, especially not big fan of Liotta. Recently watched Black Mass and was quite underwhelmed. Though if you are into heist movies you can't get any better than Heat, please someone prove me wrong, that movie is maybe in my TOP5, Pacino vs De Niro, you sympathize with both sides, amazing soundtrack, amazing supporting characters, amazing action, realistic scenes with reloading guns and real gun sound in streets of city, everything just clicks, let me check if I gave it 5/5...

Erm, to quote The Big Lebowski...

That the best you can come up with? Go watch transformers and fight club. Or whatever children's movies you enjoy. The cartoon network is always there for you too, and Disney.

Such tolerance, much wow.

Wah? Honestly, you make me feel ashamed to be Dutch!!!triumph

Like all Scorsese movies, it's too long (I would NOT call it slow-paced though). But dang, every time it's on tv, I always have to keep watching, no matter what point I jumped in. Such an intriguing story and characters.

to make you feel better even after years I still remember Spoorloos (though it can be partially also because I translated subtitles) and can highly recommend it to anyone

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/8740-spoorloos

Sadly, not really remembering any other Dutch movie I've seen, quite strange compared to Dannish and Swedish movies which I saw tons, recently I enjoyed After Wedding and The War

@Markoff

Spoorloos is an absolute Dutch classic. I would also recommend two Oscar winners and one nominee: De Aanslag, Karakter (my favourite Dutch movie) and De Tweeling. Not sure what the English titles are of those movies.

it seem all three of them are based in past far away, which I try to avoid and watch only contemporary movies, so sadly nothing...

You should try "Daglicht" if you can find it with English subs!

Great movie but not for everyone. I don't think its a top 20. Not even sure if its a top 50.

I often see the question. Godfather or Goodfellas, which is the better gangster flick?

Its not even close in my opinion.

Godfather or Goodfellas, which is the better gangster flick?

Casino
