hehe, am not! I saw it was about to go away from Netflix here in the Netherlands, so I thought, I'll try it! I do like con/heist movies and such (The Italian Job, Focus, Ocean's Eleven etc), so I thought, this must be right up that ally... but meh :(
Don't start throwing the 's at me but... I couldn't get past the first ~35 minutes of The Hateful Eight. Still haven't picked it back up...
Haha no throwing of fruit here but the Hateful Eight is a very, very slow burner. It does get better in the second act but yeah it could have done with being half hour shorter. Kind of like Death Proof, a lot of the dialogue is just Tarantino showing off.

I haven't seen that one yet, but I've seen the trailer in cinema back then about 5 times and it looked like I might like it. Don't think it's already on Netflix though.. (I'm very pro Netflix, in case you hadn't noticed!!! Once you go legal.. you never go back (unless it ain't available and is like super old and released loooong time ago. ;D)

Having said that just because a lot of people rate this so high doesn't mean it is going to float everyone's boat
I love the start of this movie more so than the later part, but this is the kinda of movie that you can watch in bits as it covers alot of years...and has more than one narrator, once the other narrator kicks in it might perk up your interest.
I could't finish it myself. Too damn violent. If they cut out all of the violence and bloodshed then maybe I would find it enjoyable. There was no need for all of those killings.
Your assessment was fair. It's an average movie. One of Scorsese's duds, even. In my mind his output hasn't been consistent at all.
On top of that, the subject matter is beaten to death. Yet another gangster movie? Recipe for falling asleep.
Another gangster movie? Lol. What year were you born?
When this came out, it along with the GF were 1 and 2 best all time.
Since then, they still are, but many more have copied them and been released. You wouldn't have any 90s follow up mafia movies (and there were many) or the Sopranos if it wasn't for this.
It just seemed to go too slow-paced for my tastes.. Is it just me?!
It's more of an art film and is about "style" more than movies that have bitten off of it that came after it. It's not just for entertainment, even though the entertainment value of it is fantastic. It's a realistic true story.

Gangsters have never been part of my life. So Godfather II was already one too many for me. And I'm sure you agree that Goodfellas was nowhere near as good as Godfather. But if somehow those movies connect with you, all powers to you. I can respect that.
Never part of mine either. But great filmmaking was. And no, I didn't like GF that much; I liked Goodfellas more, but the "consensus" loves it (as it also does Goodfellas).
But I was referring to when you said, "another gangster movie.. beaten to death subject....falling asleep"...
Clearly, you must be young and fail to realize that Goodfellas inspired just about every gangster movie that proceeded it of the 90s and 2000s, and many may not have even been made without it.
It's actually also a contemporary heist movie that inspired other non-mafia heist movies the way that part of the film was done.
At the time it was released, only the Godfather was really considered a great mafia/gangster movie. But since it, yeah, those two inspired dozens. So you must not have been an adult or perhaps born yet when it came out to think it's "just another gangster movie". Lol

This movie IMHO wasn't as good as Casino.

I've always thought the same: I enjoyed both but Casino was clearly the better of the two.

I watched it with my mother.
She loved it. Except for the violent bits. She does wonder why that little lad who was left home alone never shows up

I've heard. I was really tired that night and just didn't have the attention span. I'm planning to pick it back up.

This lady is obviously suffering from ADD or ADHD and possibly has severe mental retardation. I will say a small prayer for her.
