New Gods is the new addition to the DCEU.

Ava DuVernay is stepping into the superhero universe. The filmmaker has come on board to direct “New Gods” at Warner Bros. as part of the studio’s DC Extended Universe. “New Gods,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name, is aimed at creating a new universe of properties for the studio.

DuVernay directed Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” becoming the first woman of color in Hollywood to helm a live-action film with a production budget of $100 million.

The New Gods are natives of the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an idyllic planet ruled by the Highfather, while Apokolips is a dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits ruled by the tyrant Darkseid. New Genesis and Apokolips call themselves gods, living outside of normal time and space in a realm known as the Fourth World.

Recently, Warner Bros. updated its website and added a bio for Mr. Hamada. His official title is “President of DC-Based Film Production at Warner Bros. Pictures” (there’s still no official name for the DCEU). It sounds like he’s running things alone, with Geoff Johns taking on the role of a consultant or advisor. The new bio also confirms that Warner Bros. is planning movies on villains, not just superheroes, like The Joker origin movie and Birds of Prey Harley Quinn girl gang projects we’ve heard about. You can check out Hamada’s full new bio below.

SS, BOP, Joker, Deathstroke… DC is going villain. That’s something MC hasn’t done yet.

New developments in its comics and films suggest the company is trying to thrive by focusing on an area Marvel Studios has yet to exploit.

There’s a rise in villainy that is taking hold of the DC Universe — a rise that’s occurring in the comics and its in cinematic counterparts. This week saw two major developments on the dark side of DC. The first was the news of a Joker solo movie starring Jared Leto, who would reprise his role from Suicide Squad (2016).

The second of the week’s developments came in the pages of Scott Snyder and Jim Cheung’s Justice League No. 1 which not only successfully relaunches the series, but officially introduces the supervillain supergroup, the Legion of Doom, into modern comic continuity. While these two developments are divided by medium, they do showcase an increased awareness in the popularity of bad guys as protagonists, and may point to a potential for synchronicity between DC’s comic and film divisions.

Another idiot.

Last week, AT&T completed its acquisition of Time Warner and its media assets, including HBO, Warner Bros., CNN and the Turner networks. Those divisions will now be named WarnerMedia, with AT&T veteran John Stankey serving as CEO. Now, Stankey has commented on how much involvement he will have with Warner Bros.’ DC films:

“First of all, I think the performance [of DC movies] over the past year and a half is trending the right direction in terms of the quality of the product and how the franchise is being managed. So hats off to Kevin [Tsujihara] and the team around getting the momentum headed the right direction. Obviously, there were some public things that have occurred over the last couple of weeks [Diane Nelson and Geoff Johns, who ran DC Entertainment, both stepped down] that would indicate that some additional change is under way. My involvement in that is to make sure I support Kevin in getting the absolute best talent possible and we’ll take that franchise to the next level. That’s his set of decisions to make and his direction to go in.

It’s my job to facilitate, to make sure he has the full support of the corporation and getting that done. And I believe, as you sit here today and we start to think about what the new value proposition is for a combined Warner Media and AT&T, we obviously want to go to creatives and talk about what we can do with our platforms now that are different than what a standalone Time Warner could do prior to the transaction. That’s a unique opportunity and I want to make sure I can help Kevin sell that and get the right amount of talent in here to elevate the franchise to a new level.”

These people don’t know what quality is. BvS was bad and JL was worse. WW was the only decent DC film.

Even WW was sub-par. But it was better than those other two.

Soon you'll have too much Joker. WB’s next brilliant move is to make two Joker films.

Warner Bros. envisions an extended DC Comics cinematic universe in which multiple actors can play the same character, having already given the go-ahead to an origin story with Joaquin Phoenix in the starring role.

Variety‘s sources report that Leto would not only star in but also executive produce the untitled standalone, giving him a say in how the movie staffs up in terms of writers, directors and fellow cast members.

http://entertainment.inquirer.net/278049/p2fb-jared-letos-joker-film-greenlit

One of the Joker films has a releasse date and a production budget.

The recent announcement that The Joker will release on October 4, 2019, means that next year will be the biggest ever slate for DC superhero movies - with three films releasing in the same year.

What makes The Joker interesting, of course, is that it isn't part of the DCEU at all. It's an "Elseworlds"-esque movie disconnected from the rest of the DC slate, with a lower budget than your typical superhero film - just $55 million. The decision to greenlight this movie suggests the studio is embracing a more diverse portfolio, a mix of tentpole superhero movies and cheaper, possibly R-rated productions.

I don't understand WB. Why didn't they say anything about NG and BOP? I can't find anything about SS 2 either.

'Batman v Superman' Martha Moment Criticism Doesn't Make Sense to Film's Crew

"There was... zero conversation about 'oh, people are going to have an issue with this or not understand it or think it's silly,'" Caro said. "It was -- and it's so funny, Zack and I had a conversation about that, I don't know, a month ago, probably. That came up and I just said, 'I have never understood' and I don't listen to a lot of the haters, but I've heard the chatter of it a little bit, but I don't understand what the disconnect was."

Caro went on to explain that the scene was meant to allow Batman -- and audiences -- to relate to Superman's humanity and that it was "crystal clear" to him.

"What the problem is with how salient that line is and the connection between having the same mother's name allows you to connect with someone you wanted to obliterate from the planet because you saw him as a threat to the human race," Caro continued. "You saw him as a threat to humanity, then in that one moment, you realized he was an orphan and his mother's... you saw him as you as you as a kid and you saw him in that light, so that enlightened you, that made you drop and see him now, not as the enemy, but as an ally. A fellow being who is trying to do the right thing, to reach justice. So, no, crystal clear and very, like I said, it always made sense to me, so I'm perplexed by that one and I don't know that I... I don't have the answer to that one."

He doesn’t know why the Martha Moment doesn’t make sense? Whoa! How stupid is he? rofl

It does not make sense, because, like Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, Bruce Wayne should have known Superman’s adoptive parents names and address. Like Lex Luthor, Bruce Wayne should have known where Martha works and that Lois Lane is Clark Kent’s girlfriend.

How many times must fans scream that?

There was a bigger problem than the Martha moment. BM had no reason to hate SM and think he was a threat to Earth.

  • SM can live like a King and ignore the laws, but he doesn’t.
  • SM surrendered to the humans so that they could hand him over to Zod.
  • SM didn’t fight all those powerful Kryptonians because they wanted to take him. No, he fought to stop them from taking over the Earth.
  • You can see SM on the news saving people from natural and man-made disasters regularly.
  1. All these things weren’t enough to make BM curious enough to find out more about SM, like LL and Lex did. He should have known everything about SM a long time ago. He always finds out as much as he can about his insignificant human enemies. Why didn’t he know anything about the alien that could destroy Earth if he wanted to?

  2. All these good things weren’t enough to convince BM that SM was good and no threat. The fact that he has a mother also named Martha instantly convinces him that SM is just a guy who wants to save his mom, therefore good.

How can the most important part of the story of a huge budget film rely on something so lame? Most criminals would do anything to save their moms, but that won’t make them good and it certainly won’t mean they’ll change. And most of the time the woman is their biological mom and they certainly don’t have the powers that SM has.

So why did BM hate SM?

Because the aliens came here for him? Many people died because of him?

Yes, the aliens came here looking for SM. Zod said so, but he didn’t say why he wanted him. BM doesn’t know that SM accidentally activated the beacon and is the carrier of the codex. But if SM was all they wanted, they’d have taken him and leave. But they didn’t. That’s because they were also looking for a new planet. So Earth would have been in danger, whether SM was here or not. Also, if SM could find Earth on his own, so could other Kryptonians. BM couldn’t figure that out?

Ava DuVernay Confirms Villains for DC’s ‘New Gods’ Movie, Teases Casting

DuVernay confirmed that both Darkseid and the Female Furies will appear in New Gods, adding that while she’s keeping her mind open regarding casting, “there is a 99% chance” that an actor from When They See Us will appear in the movie. That would come as little surprise, as DuVernay is loyal to her actors, working with several of them multiple times.

DuVernay is currently writing New Gods with comics veteran Tom King, who she called a “genius.” They’ll be working from the comic book mythology created by Jack Kirby, who positioned Darkseid as the main antagonist in the epic story. As for the Furies, DuVernay has previously revealed herself as a fan of Big Barda, the leader of the all-female fighting force. “I’m looking forward to [the Furies] so much,” she said in response to a question about the Furies.

Warner Bros. has not announced a release date for New Gods, but I imagine it’s being eyed for late 2021 or early 2022 on the studio’s schedule.

http://collider.com/ava-duvernay-new-gods-villains/

WB gave BM priority and now MSt will be the first to adapt a Jack Kirby. MSt has confirmed The Eternals (TE) (November 2020). WB could and should have been the first adapting a JK. Darkseid already looks too much like Thanos. But MSt was first. rofl

Tom King Talks Co-Writing the New Gods Movie With Ava DuVernay

The project, about which little is known other than the involvement of King and DuVernay, will expand the mythology of the DC Universe on the big screen, potentially opening up some of Kirby's biggest and wildest ideas to a new generation of viewers who haven't read the King's comics firsthand. Of course, to do so, it will have to compete for attention with Marvel's Eternals, which can say similar things.

The movie, which King is co-writing with DuVernay, is expected to go into production in 2020 and will likely feature Mister Miracle and Big Barda quite a bit.

New Gods' Ava DuVernay confirms one Worlds of DC character for the movie

"Because you asked so nicely... working on fourth draft of a scene featuring All Widow this week [week 19]," she replied.

In the DC comic books, All-Widow is the Queen of the Bugs and member of a race of humanoid insects who live underneath New Genesis.

Last year, DuVernay confirmed that Darkseid will be a major part of her New Godsmovie after the character was originally supposed to be introduced earlier in the Worlds of DC canon as part of Zack Snyder's original Justice League plans(#ReleaseTheSnyderCut).

Alongside Darkseid, DuVernay also teased the inclusion of Big Barda and the Female Furies, an elite squadron of evil warriors that serve under the villain and who Barda used to belong to before she defected and became a hero.

IMO, this project is more exciting than most things on the 8/22 DC-FD list. So why isn’t it on that list?

Zack Snyder confirms a remastered version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is on the way

For fans of Zack Snyder’s take on the DC Universe, it seems 2021 will be quite the year. Not only is Snyder finally releasing his long-awaited cut of Justice League, but now his most polarizing film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is getting remastered.

This new, updated version of the 2016 film will include fixed coloring and restore the original IMAX ratio.

Snyder says the film will arrive before his cut of Justice League premieres and will likely see a home entertainment release, as well as HBO Max.

About time ZS did something about that crappy color. Maybe this means he’ll stop with that kind of awful color and go back to the beautiful color that he used in MOS.

Announced on December 10 and it will be in theaters before Ava DuVernay’s New Gods (announced in 2018).
