Discuss Henry Cavill

New Gods is the new addition to the DCEU.

Ava DuVernay is stepping into the superhero universe. The filmmaker has come on board to direct “New Gods” at Warner Bros. as part of the studio’s DC Extended Universe. “New Gods,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name, is aimed at creating a new universe of properties for the studio.

DuVernay directed Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” becoming the first woman of color in Hollywood to helm a live-action film with a production budget of $100 million.

The New Gods are natives of the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an idyllic planet ruled by the Highfather, while Apokolips is a dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits ruled by the tyrant Darkseid. New Genesis and Apokolips call themselves gods, living outside of normal time and space in a realm known as the Fourth World.

Why can't he keep it simple?

He thinks easter eggs and symbolism will make him a good writer. More religious crap.

why would Batman create a Kryptonite spear to dispose of Superman?

Zack shared the above image of Jesus, nailed to the cross, being pierced by the spear of a Roman soldier.

Any time a cross is used in a movie, especially a movie by Zack Snyder, knowing the Biblical allegory at play is imperative to understanding the symbolism at play. In this case, the use of 3 crosses is very specific. When Jesus was crucified in the Bible, he was hung on a cross, flanked by 2 other crosses bearing two criminals. One of the criminals began to mock him, suggesting there was no way he could possibly be the son of God because if he was, he would save himself. The other criminal replied to him, saying he had no business mocking Jesus because they were up there for crimes they were rightfully convicted of committing, whereas Jesus was being executed when he had committed no crime, asking “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” In response, Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” This story is an illustration of how nobody is beyond redemption, even in the moment of their death, even a convicted criminal.

Throughout Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the use of Christ imagery with Superman makes it clear that the middle cross would be the Man of Tomorrow, but who are the other two? It couldn’t be the Trinity because that doesn’t satisfy the symbolism of the criminals. At least Wonder Woman doesn’t. Batman, however, satisfies the parallel of the penitent criminal. He was a fallen hero, driven to kill Supeman in BvS, but was after seeing Superman’s sacrifice, he was redeemed and decided to return to a more noble heroism, as shown through his “men are still good” voiceover. We already know Darkseid was going to be the villain in Justice League 2, and it involved the Anti-Life Equation, meaning it was likely inspired by ‘Final Crisis’ in which Batman sacrifices himself to kill Darkseid, making him a likely candidate for the second cross.

https://screenrant.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-2-crosses-deaths/

The identity of the third cross is the least obvious, but with Batman fitting the role of the penitent criminal, the final cross has to be Lex Luthor. Batman v Superman sets Bruce and Lex up as foils, where both are orphaned billionaires obsessed with taking down Superman. Both were powerful men before Superman arrived, but his appearance was not only accompanied by large-scale destruction in Metropolis, but his arrival also triggered a rage in both of them described by Alfred “that feeling of powerlessnesses that turns good men cruel.” Their arcs are incredibly similar, even some of their dialogue matches up, but where Bruce is ultimately inspired by Superman and comes to see him a savior, Lex still hates Superman. The scene on the rooftop in Batman v Superman has Lex trying to show the world the “holes in the holy,” attempting to prove that Superman is not a god, a belief Batman echoes before he comes to see Superman is a hero himself.

Whoa! Did ZS forget that these films are PG-13? scream

ZS is eager to explain things. Someone should ask him why WW didn't help SM when the Kryptonians invaded Earth. An alien invasion couldn't make her leave tacofest island, but an old pic could. Why would anybody think the woman in the pic is Diana Prince? People have look-alikes. And how did Lex get the pic?

You don't know the answer? BvS wasn't supposed to happen. It was a reaction to the mixed reviews that MOS got. I think they just threw WW in the film to see how the public will react to GG.

I know. But wouldn't it be cool to hear it from ZS? Do any of you have Vero? Someone who's not me should make one. I try to stick with IG and WhatsApp. That's it.

My head is spinning. I can't handle this much religious crap. I thought I escaped Sunday school. But if we can be religious, we can be superstitious too. No wonder the DCEU is failing. It's cursed! Jesus doesn't want to be compared to a fictional alien. joy

Boring! Another piece of religious or superstitious crap.

ZS explains the meaning of the scene in BvS where the young Bruce Wayne was lifted towards the light by a flock of bats. Ben Affleck’s voice played over it all, saying: “In the dream, they took me to the light. A beautiful lie.”

Yes, please tell me again how Zack Snyder doesn't get Superman/Batman and is just a visualist.

New addition! WB found a director for Birds of Prey.

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) has been tapped to direct a Birds of Prey feature film for Warner Bros. and DC.

The actress [Margo Robbie] reportedly took an interest in the Birds of Prey project since she began to research her character for her role in Suicide Squad. She’ll also produce the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner as part of a first look deal she has with the studio.

Warner Bros. tapped Bumblebee and Shut In writer Christina Hodson to pen the script for a Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey spinoff back in 2016. As for Suicide Squad 2, Warrior director Gavin O’Connor is set to direct the project with Robbie, Jared Leto, and Will Smith returning for the sequel. Production is expected to kick off in the fall of 2018 with Michael De Luca producing.

Easy, girl. I didn’t hear you ask where MOS 2 was when WB hired Ava Duvernay to direct NG.

Patty Jenkins’s success with WW has really opened the superhero world’s door for other female directors.

A woman wrote a script in 2016. The article doesn't say they will use it.

Now Blackhawk can be part of the DCEU. Link to article

Warner Bros. announced that Steven Spielberg is attached to produce, and possibly direct, a film adaptation of DC's Blackhawk comic series.

At the moment, there's no telling exactly how both projects could evolve (especially in Blackhawk's case, because Spielberg reportedly wants to direct Indiana Jones 5 beforehand). And while some have assumed that Blackhawk would be essentially unconnected from the main DCEU continuity, there's one secret weapon that could tie it all together: Zinda Blake.

For the uninitiated, Zinda is the first character to operate under the name Lady Blackhawk, debuting in the pages of DC Comics in 1959. Zinda had roots in the World War II era, persevering to become the first woman to join the Blackhawks' ranks. After years of adventures with the team, Zinda was dropped into the main DC Comics continuity as a result of the Zero Hour event. Years later, Zinda was recruited to join the Birds of Prey, serving as the team's pilot and fourth main member for a long stretch of time.

It also would allow Blackhawk to have a built-in cast member, giving the film a chance to really expand on Zinda's origins, similarly to how DC handled Wonder Woman's backstory after introducing her in Batman v. Superman.
