Yeah, I'm side-eyeing that. The winters in Hungary are brutal. Am I to believe HC stayed in a tin can during all of that? Plus, HC didn't stay in a hotel. A house was rented for him, so . . .

The Witcher is out, and I must say it looks really good. A good thing as I am disappointed with how the Rise of Skywalker and Game of Thrones turned out. I need a satisfying genre story and I am hoping The Witcher will deliver. Even Grace Randolph got all excited about it ! If this is as good as Grace says it to be, then he should just ditch Superman and just make great stuff like this. The only thing that I might be bothered about this movie is the one-sided nudity. Seriously was it really needed?

Grace was told to play nice this time.

Really? Grace doesn’t strike me as someone who would ‘play nice’. She really didn’t like Rise of Skywalker even though it’s Disney (which she praises a lot) and she was very critical of Terminator Dark Fate.
Maybe The Witcher is just that good? I hope. I’ve had too many disappointments already — the last Star Wars, GOT, Terminator Dark Fate. It would really be disappointing if The Witcher also sucks!

She only plays nice when there's someone or something behind her. Look at her reviews for CATS and Star Wars too despite the tone of slight disappointment and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I saw 2 1/2 episodes and I can tell she was biting her tongue during her review. She was throwing a little shade in there. Anya was great, yadda, yadda, yadda. HC was missing a lot in the first couple of episodes. He was handy with the sword. Although, it was weak in the first episode but great in the last episode. Oh, I just love how he used modern day curse words. Boy, I could hear Cavill curse all day long.

Overall, I'm not totally sold on the Witcher. The weakest link is HC, the wig, and the face masks. It seems as if they went Sci-fy channel on some of the costumes. Overall, I'll try to see a few more episodes, but I'm not seeing the love.

Well I just finished halfway through the series. And I totally disagree with you. I don’t think Grace wasn’t ‘playing nice at all.
I thought she genuinely liked this series for the same reasons I did. I like the fact that for a fantasy-genre movie, it’s quite female-centric. The female characters really shined in this movie, which is quite rare for a series in a fantasy genre movie. I also love the way the story unfolded - it’s not just the different character viewpoints, but the different [SPOILER] timelines which was fantastic. That was hard to pull off! I also liked it followed the pattern of the X-Files. You have an overarching arc, but at the same time there was a ‘monster’ of the episode which had to be confronted.
I also agree with Grace that one of the major flaws of the movie was the weak beginning. It was a bit of a slow start and the first monster of the week didn’t look too great. The first two episodes were also quite confusing, and could put some viewers off (particularly those not really much into the fantasy genre). However, each episode got better and better, and the female characters were just sooo good!
The nudity turned out to be not as bad as I thought, and not that many. There were more nudity in GOT and other HBO shows. The only problem is that it’s always the female actresses taking off their clothes, so you wonder what was the culture in the show’s production to allow this. I can see why HC didn’t have to show off full nudity. He is obviously the most well-known actor in the show, so he can refuse, so you kind of feel sorry for the others, particularly Anya Chalotra.
The production values of the show was obviously not on par with something like Game of Thrones, but they were not as bad either. I love the diversity in the show, which didn’t seem forced at all.
As for HC - I do agree with you that the wig doesn’t look so great, particularly when there was another Witcher in the show that didn’t seem to have or need a wig as bad! LOL! I didn’t find his grooming and costume too great either. I personally thought his acting is good enough for the character he is portraying. It’s not as stellar as Peter Dinklage or Kit Harrington in Game of Thrones, but I thought his Geralt was good. (I am wondering how those who have read the books or played the games thought of his portrayal.)
I am wondering though, why the producers auditioned so many actors first before settling on HC. There were not a lot of well-known actors and actresses in this movie, and I thought they needed someone a little bit more known (but not too well-known or expensive) to draw more audience in. HC, thanks to his MOS role, is known enough among the sci-fi/fantasy crowd. He may not be as well-known amongst the mainstream audience, but he is known enough for the audience of that genre.
I do find it amusing critics and viewers are split about this movie — almost the same results for The Rise of Skywalker on Rotten Tomatoes, although for this one, Grace seems to be on the same side of viewers for The Witcher.
I am quite excited to see the rest of the show, and hope the last episode of this debut season is not a stinker.

Well, I only saw two episodes, but I do agree the female leads are good. However, the plot lines don't inspire me to continue.
What is it with male nudity? Why can't we see it? I thought the tide was changing when regular TV was showing male butts, but then that disappeared.
Oh, the fanboys will take scraps and lap it up. Did you find HC's voice weird as if it was synthesized?
It's the same way on certain platforms and messageboards too.
Girl, if you like it this much, assuming you're at episode 7, then you'll like 8.

GIRL, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SHOW! All I can say is when will the next season start???? Finished the entire series at 3:30 am the other night.
I just found it amazing how the timelines messed with me, the sudden twists, and those female characters - WOW! However, I do note the series seems to borrow from other sci-fi/fantasy series. (The Witcher’s remind me a lot of the Jedis, and the story of the king and his sister in one of the kingdoms — reminds me too much of Jaime and Cersei Lannister and the young version of the king and his sister even looked like younger version of Jamie and Cersei.) There was even one scene that reminded me of The Hobbit. However, overall, it’s still a great series.
I do feel HC is going back to his Tudors roots in this series. What I mean to say is that he was fabulous as the Dashing Duke of Suffolk in The Tudors. As an actor he was great in that role, and it’s the same here as Geralt. I think this is the format he thrives in - a TV series where the other characters (and actors/actresses) are really good. I mean in The Tudors, you know the other actors were really good in their role and the scripts were great, so that helped him shine! I think Grace also said that he seems to be better for roles like this where he’s not ‘totally good’ but has a bit of a villainy or greyness in him.
I always thought HC would be better off in a great TV series as that’s where actors/actresses can develop and play out their characters’ journey better, and I think this series proves my point.
One thing I do hope — I wish they’d do something about that stupid wig. I know his character has long white/grey hair, but still even in the games — the character’s hair looks better groomed. I also hope they can get a better budget so they can come up with better special effects and production values like GOT. As for his voice, I didn’t think it was too bad. I thought it seemed suited to the character.
Oh and I want more of him with Yennefer! Boy, those two worked!
He should just hang the cape with Superman, and pick up a sword and continue on being Geralt.
By the way, I’ve seen Grace’s longer review of The Witcher (the one with the spoilers), and she is raving more about this series in that review.

The timelines and the jumping around messed too much with my patience. It seemed as if I were watching a bunch of different films. I'm up to episode 5 and I find myself liking it less.
Yep!
I heard something in the dialogue that mentioned something about his voice. That made me believe his voice is supposed to sound altered to everyone else.

Grace was very positive for her Cats review so that doesn't really mean anything.
Yennefer and Geralt had no chemistry at all. Then again, Henry never had any chemistry with any of his female leads.
They casted a really young looking actress to play a formidable sorceress and that fell flat. She looks almost the same age as the child actress supposed to be Geralt's daughter.
Cgi was all over the place.
Don't even get me started about the script. I'd be embarrassed to be connected to any of the writers involved.
What other shows do you like?

The worst dragon in the history of special effects
When the first episode ended I felt some hope, but It’s bad directed and the photography it’s just not that good. It is not decided whether it is a fairy tale or a action movie, they failed to mix both.
I read the books. It falls in to be the summary of the books and it is clear that they added the most recognized parts of these, but not necessarily to create continuity in the story. In my humble opinion, I think there's a lot to be improved for the second season.
