When the first episode ended I felt some hope, but It’s bad directed and the photography it’s just not that good. It is not decided whether it is a fairy tale or a action movie, they failed to mix both.

Yes, the cinematography is bad. There is no continuity. You have Geralt walking in stark bright daylight on a horse w/the barb. Then, there are daylight scenes in which the days all look grey. In fact, they light the Geralt and the Barb scenes as if they are shooting a western. When Geralt meets up with the town folks then it's all dreary and grey. Ciri and Yen's worlds are always dark.

Yennefer and Geralt had no chemistry at all. Then again, Henry never had any chemistry with any of his female leads.

That's one consistent thing I hear everyone saying, whether they like the series or not, they do agree on that. I haven't gotten to that part yet to make a decision and probably won't be doing that anytime soon.

Cgi was all over the place.

It was nothing spectacular. They had a decent budget, and I've seen TV shows such as American Horror do way better with far less. However, I can excuse bad CGI if the writing is good.

Don't even get me started about the script. I'd be embarrassed to be connected to any of the writers involved.

My head hurts just trying to make sense of what everyone is saying. It's as if they are speaking a different language. Currently, I'm learning a second language, and it's not as hard as listening to this.

By the way, I’ve seen Grace’s longer review of The Witcher (the one with the spoilers), and she is raving more about this series in that review.

Grace was very positive for her Cats review so that doesn't really mean anything.

I raised Grace’s long spoiler review of The Witcher because you and Poetist wrote that you felt like she was ‘playing nice’ and restrained in her review of The Witcher. I am saying that I disagree. Her longer review with spoilers seems to show more that she genuinely enjoyed the series. That is quite something given her past negative rants towards HC. But then she has said before she likes Batman v Superman, so It’s not the first time she liked a project HC has been in, which has been panned a lot by other critics.

Her review for Cats is indeed meaningless because we are talking about The Witcher in this thread. But I do acknowledge the majority of critics and viewers alike hated Cats, but she’s entitled to her opinion for that movie and for this series.

I personally thought they had chemistry. I love them, but I’ll wait and see how it goes for the second season.

They casted a really young looking actress to play a formidable sorceress and that fell flat. She looks almost the same age as the child actress supposed to be Geralt's daughter.

I thought the actress who played Yennifer looked older than the actress who played Cilla (Geralt’s Law of Surprise surprise). If she looks young, well it seemed none of the female mages seemed to be growing old despite the passage of time. Being a mage has its perks, I guess. I wish I can be a mage if I can look that good and prolong my life. LOL!

I personally never read The Witcher books so I have no preconceived ideas how the characters should look like.

Cgi was all over the place.

That I agree. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. That’s why I hope they’ll get a Game of Thrones budget for season 2. But I was too intrigued by the story to be bothered by bad CGI. Years of watching too many sci-fi and fantasy TV series and movies with even worse CGI, but good storylines, makes me more forgiving of bad CGI.

Don't even get me started about the script. I'd be embarrassed to be connected to any of the writers involved.

I thought the scriptwriters were clever. I have not seen any other TV show that told a series from multi-time lines without showing clearly that there are flashbacks involved. Multi-character viewpoints with A, B, C plots - yes, as what was done with something like Game of Thrones. But with this one, even the timelines were multi-faceted and not overtly shown, then they gradually converged with the meeting of the two main characters in the end. That is something different, daring and new to me. I loved that!

What the scriptwriters and all those involved in this movie have done for this series was hard to pull off, and risky as it can turn off and confuse viewers. But personally, I like writers who thinks out of the box and dare do something different.

What other shows do you like?

Too many, but I have been a big fan of The X-Files, Star Trek (all the different series), Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Game of Thrones (until the ending), True Blood, The Alienist, Penny Dreadful, The Tudors, Twin Peaks, Avatar: The Last Airbender (the series, not the dreadful movie), the BBC Sherlock series, Big Bang Theory, Steven Universe, How to Train Your Dragon tv series. I can go on and on...

Now, I've seen the wholes series, and I can't say that I love it.

To me, it had too many characters, motives, and actions. The writers did not do the basics of storytelling. It just threw everything out there and just watched what stuck. It was like we need nudity. We need violence. We need funny looking things.

Then this cast of characters is fighting for the viewer's attention, and it was hard for me to know who was important. Since, it seemed as if everyone had some important gibberish to say.

Of course, I knew Geralt, Ciri, and Yen were the focus, but I don't think their characters were fully developed. The character of Yen was confusing. I didn't understand her moves at all. She's having sex in front of this panel. She leaves this man that I think she loves. Then, she and Geralt somehow hit it off, but they aren't seen together again in the last episode. On top of that, she wants a baby. I think we find that out in episode six. I'm sure Ciri will be the child she could never have, but I do believe that this world could have been better constructed.

It didn't seem as if things were centered. Yes, I know if the queen gave Ciri to Geralt the whole war wouldn't have happened, but that was the fifth episode. Still, he left w/o her, even though he said he wouldn't.

Then, this whole world of surprise or whatever they were calling it was thrown into the equation. I can go on and on, but I'll just leave it at that.

I read somewhere that they’ll change the costume manager. Maybe (hopefully) they’ll change others too. Specially in the writers department.

What, only the costume manager? I agree w/you that they need to start w/the writers.

Hello everyone! Long time no post.

So, I actually really liked The Witcher. I liked the three main characters and thought they all did a good job. I liked Geralt and thought Henry did a good job.

Having spoken my positives, I do have some complaints. I agree about the writing. There was some dialogue that would completely take me out of the scene, for example, one character mentions to another the word "spa". Wait, what?! This world has spas? Also, the timeline jumping was confusing as there was nothing letting the audiance know they were going back, until you see the Queen who died in episode 2. They need to build this world more to the audiance.

My last complaint is the nudity, or lack there of. We see Yennifers breast about 6 times through the show, full frontal nudity, and explicit sex scenes with her. Geralt is fully clothed in EVERY sex scene. Come on Henry! This world is dark, violent and bloody, at least give us sexy sex scenes. Henrys sex scenes were actually kind of awkward to watch.

I wonder why HC was so chaste. I mean he wouldn't even show his stomach. It was just his chest, hairy armpit, and calf. Very odd. Plus, it always after sex, and he was lying on his back on his side of the bed. There was no caressing.

In the orgy scene, all of the men were clothes, which again is odd AF.

Off topic:

Did the Bard die in the end? I saw a guy look like him get hacked to pieces by the bearded guy.

Yes it was, looked more like a mascarade dance sequence.

Bard.....whats the characters name? I'm drawing a blank on who your referring to.

He was HC's sidekick during the western looking horseback riding trails scenes. He sang a lot too.

No, I believe he is still a live. I think him and Geralt become close friends (eventually). But, I need to watch it again. I don't remember him dying. 🤔 The story jumps around so much, that crap got confusing.

No. In the book Jaskier is not in the Sodden battle. He’s alive 😉

They’re replacing the stunt coordinator too 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ouch! Isn't the stunt coordinator HC's friend?

The one out is the guy from GoT. HC’s friend did only the reshoot of episode 1 (he’s the one who bring Lucy). Maybe this team will do the stunts for all season 2 🤷🏽‍♀️ since the fight with Renfri was so praised (in my opinion it wasn’t that good, and Lucy Cork didn’t do a great job, she was a bit slow in her movements, in comparison to the rest of the fight and the others stunts).
