I think she was. Most of the stuff that happened to her was either regular high school crap or stuff she brought on herself. For example, people become friends and then drift apart all the time as teenagers. I know because I am one. High school is one stupid drama after another. Also, the rape stuff that happened was either due to underage intoxication or sheer stupidity. Girls, I have news for you: Boys are ridiculously horny ALL THE TIME! If you want to avoid bad situations, don't get blasted at parties, especially if you tend to hang around a bunch of immature dudes who you don't trust. It's a recipe for disaster. So Hannah goes to a party, gets drunk and fails to come to the aid of a another drunk girl. She basically watcher her get raped. Then, as if that wasn't stupid enough, a few days later she walks to the rapist's house, strips to her bra and panties and hops into his hot tub!! OMG! He's a rapist, you dunderhead! So what happens? She gets raped of course. What a stupid girl. Then she goes to the school counselor and expects him to read her mind. She won't name the boy, she doesn't say she was raped. It's a mess! She is too young to drink. There are drinking laws for a reason. It's because teenagers are moronic as hell SOBER. Do they think they will get smarter when blasted on booze?!? Wow. I don't even know what the message of this show was. I was liking it for a while but it got so stupid and annoying by the end.

But it's not entirely on Hannah. As I said, she did questionable things and things that were wrong. Having said that, when the school was told what the jocks were doing NOTHING was done. There's enough blame to go to both sides but it shouldn't be all on Hannah as most in this thread are seeming to do.
In any case, bullying goes on in school. To say it doesn't is ludicrous . The schools usually do nothing about it while claiming a zero tolerance policy against bullying. It most definitely starts at home with parents. Parents no longer are teaching their children to respect another person. Parents today are too worried about being their child's best friend (i.e. -- giving them the newest clothes, car, newest Iphone and anything else they want) and don't bother with trying to teach their kids real world lessons. You can't blame it on video games, tv or movies either because there again, parents are not teaching their kids that video games, etc. aren't reality.
Noone has to agree with what I just typed. It's fine if anyone doesn't. What I just typed is my own view. If you agree fine and if you don't fine. But I won't be made to feel stupid because of my view.

Hannah obviously was on a self destructive path by the time she chose to head to Bryce’s house that night. She was far from being logical at that point. Alcohol didn’t help, but wasn’t the reason for her being raped. Knowing the kind of guy Bryce is he’s probably drugged girls drinks before.

Exactly, so don't go where a known rapist will be "partying". Furthermore, don't indulge in alcohol, which will impair your judgment. All these actions do is exacerbate the bad situation you are already in. You're living dangerous at this point.
She was on a self destructive path by then, so whatever she did at that time is on her. Some of the other previous stuff wasn't her fault, but she can't blame anyone but herself there, IMO.
People got stuff twisted, thinking they never deserve any blame when they put themselves in bad situations. I am NOT in any way, shape or form defending rapists (for those people with no ability to have nuance in conversations). However, just because a venomous snake SHOULDN'T bite me, that doesn't mean I'm absolved of blame if I go near it and expect it not to act like a venomous snake.

You are so wrong it hurts my eyes reading this. You keep saying Hannah should take some of the blame for playing with fire, for not being responsible. There was another person in that situation who was the irresponsible one. Let me tell you, there are laws in certain countries that prohibits two people from having sex unless both parties have given explicit consent, either in words or having expressed themselves in other ways. This is exactly how it should be.
She wandered aimlessly after all the shit that had gone down, she wasn't really supposed to end up at Bryce's. She followed the music. Then she was left alone with him in the tub and tried to leave. Twice. He kept dragging her back down, giving her compliments. Suddenly his hands were all over her.
Bryce knew damn well that Hannah didn't want to have sex but he just grabbed her anyway, so he is the only one responsible! I felt sick when she was pushed so hard against the edge that she couldn't even scream for help.
When did Hannah give consent? It's ok to rape me because you're a rapist and I knew that. It's never the victims fault, the perpetrator made the choice to violate the rights and integrity of another human being.

So when the guys walk around shirtless flaunting their six-pack and spring break suntan, that's just manly? "Look at me bitches, I'm a Greek god but you're ugly so you can't fuck me (if you're lucky I might rape you.)"
Most people know what's right and what's wrong, what's morally reprehensible and so on. Bryce looked at Hannah and saw a trophy. He got his morals from his father, if you want something in life, you take it no matter what. If not in the tub, then somewhere else. That's a fact.
About the music, I read that in an interview with the screen writer. Hannah was in a trance state, walking with no goal but her feet steered her in a certain direction without her knowing it. When she came up close to the house she heard the music and decided to follow it. Viewers are meant to interpret her actions their own way but most likely she wanted to confront him.

This kind of response, when you're out of argument and don't have anything valid to add to the conversation so you have to use insults and personal attacks? That makes you part of the problem. Thanks for making my point for me.

Who are you to question what any anxious perdon does at any given time after facing a major life crisis. Hannah wandered around at night and ended up at a rapists house. Tyler took a rifle to a school dance. Alex tried to kill himself. Justin OD'd. Mental health is a major problem in our society today and we need to address it more than we do. Don't you think it's important? Stop focusing on what you think Hannah did wrong and look at the bigger picture.

Oh wow, good luck enforcing that one. How could the absolute truth be known unless every coital encounter is recorded, both with audio and video? Are we all gonna have to wear body cams to determine if the coital activity is 100% consensual?

Can't argue with you there, I live in a country where free speech will probably lead to civil war if we're not careful. A slight exaggeration, but I enjoy it just the same of course. It's also hard as a non-American to relate to the school jargon and customs so it makes me wonder if this is realistically depicted. I wouldn't know. The mental health problems are very real all over the world though but let's get this straight, I can't imagine any teenager doing what Hannah did with the tapes. That's just pure fiction to create a sensation around her tragic fate.
What's not fiction, and why I'm writing here in the first place, is the way they treat the subject of what it's like being a lost, young woman in a world of lost, young men. They are bound to clash. I've gotten a lot of flack here but I stand by my words, no matter if you think a girl is a tease or whatever, the choice ultimately lies with the guy. Do I have the right to take control over a body that does not belong to me without her consent? Or do I walk away. Is she saying no? Dude, she's just not that into you. W a l k a w a y.

A lot of people I know totally base their self worth on the person they are effing. That's the problem. Call it bad parenting or a messed up society, whatever. There are people with so little self esteem that everything they do is shallow, pathetic and burdensome. People need to find passion in life that goes beyond a sex partner. It's a stupid way to live that will never result in happiness. The rest of us have to deal with these empty vessels and their drug and alcohol problems. They are dangerous on our roads and annoyances in every way possible. It's a mess.

komrad, you should be ashamed of yourself! I completely disagree with kewl-kat, but seeing as people have already attempted to reason with her, I won't bother with her- but NO ONE needs to be raped! No one should be raped!

This thread is horrible. So many evil comments. Life is short. Don't wish to ever experience suicide, rape or violence of you or your loved ones. How would you react if it was happening to your daughter, son or your sister?

I agree with you, Svumpukkel85, but Jana was obviously being sarcastic when she said her daughter should have known better. Anyway, moving back to this- it is vile, these comments, but this programme is extremely flawed

List the things you disagree with, knowledgeable one. Do you think it's a good idea to get fall-down drunk at parties? Do you feel underage drinking is no big deal? Right now in America we are all waiting to hear what a couple of adults have to say about an alleged attempted rape from 35 years ago when those people were teens. It was illegal for them to drink at that time but they were, of course, inebriated out of their minds. Nobody remembers the details, people are taking sides, people's lives are being ruined, it's a nightmare.
Please list your solutions to stopping rape. Sorry you have to "bother" with me.
