Discuss Tomo-chan Is a Girl!

Item: Season 1

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Episode one isn't divided into 2 parts. While they are segments, both are listed as 1 episode on the oficial website: https://tomo-chan.jp/story/

According to the anime guidelines it should be only one episode:" While the episode are composed of multiple segments, they are listed as regular episodes on the official website."

However, on the the official website of this anime episodes are not split into segments.

Each episode has a double title which correspond to the segment names.

In addition, AniDB page of this anime lists each episode as a single unit, not segments. Also, My Anime List page of this anime clearly states episode count is 13, not 20+ something segments, and also the duration is 23 minutes per episode. Additionally, "episodes list" on the Japanese Wikipedia page of this anime clearly shows each episode has two titles but they're listed as only one episode (Here's the English version.), not two different segments. Furthermore, here is the Fandom page of this anime, not surprisingly it also has only 3 episodes. On top of that, here's the episodes page on IMDB, again only 3 episodes.

Each site has its own set of rules.

The official website for this series, clearly shows that the two segments are one episode. Much like as with Aho-Girl as per the TMDB rules.

We aren't in the same case as Aho-Girl. For it, each episode has one single title.

Here, each episode has a double title which correspond to the names of the 2 segments.

Hey all,

I don't wanna fight here, but can we invite another MOD that is familiar with anime edits??

I understand, @superboy97, what you are saying, and I know you are working strictly based on the bible. I recognize you often with your regular hard works on TMDb. I also know TMDb is NOT designed for anime works (example: Organizing Multiple-rolled Casts in TV Series). I know Shin-chan or Sazae-san, etc. which mix up shorts episodes/segments with one big op/ed with credits.

Although I am on @Sonply, @Rodskel, and others' side. My reasons are all pointed out by others, but I don't think it's a good idea to keep dividing episodes. It's already affecting websites using TMDb's info, such as JustWatch, which is connected to streamers like Crunchyroll, etc., which organizes episodes differently now.

I know there are many MOD here who are used to anime edits (like @Sheigutn and so much more). Since this connects to TMDb's longing problem with voice acted problems, we might be able to invite staff like @travisbell too.

I am also on the side of no listing segments as their own episode. Its screwing with the other apps that integrate with this site as well as its listed as a 12 episode series everywhere but here is will have 24 lol.

March Comes in Like a Lion also has segmented episodes that are even distinctly titled as 'Chapters', but from what I can see on the official website each segment doesn't have its own summary. Isn't that the same as this anime?

No. Here the listed overview cover only the first segment.

Hey I just wanted to add that the episode pictures are not matching the segments. Also, the latest episode had like 4 segments I think, but I think the season is now a mix of some segments and some episodes, it’s really confusing. If we’re doing segments, could someone take a look and make it right? At the moment the data is useless, doesn’t matter if you’re looking for episodes or segments because it’s a mix-up.

Feel free to report the images that are attached to the wrong segments.

The latest episode had 3 segments.

The data are correct as per the currently broadcasted episodes (perhaps except the images, see the start of the answer). For the next episodes, we will have to wait for their broadcast.

Cool, episode 4 hast THREE PARTS with own titles, why did TMDB create 3 episodes out of it? 😂

The stake associated with this data being "correct" can't be that high so there's really no reason to be upset, and particularly none to be rude. Just voice your disagreement and let people simmer on it. Assume everyone is trying their best.

I'll emphasize that I keep coming back to this discussion. Every time I get notified by my episode tracker that a new tomo chan episode is out two things happen:

  • The episode numbers on CrunchyRoll do not match up.
  • After watching one episode I have to mark multiple episodes as watched in my tracker.

Since I'm using this tracker while the show is currently airing it's not a big deal. Just watch the latest and keep marking as watched until I run out of episodes to mark in my tracker. But this would be very confusing once more episodes are out. Especially now since we have an irregular number of episodes (2 and 3): If you're in the middle of a season you wouldn't be able to tell which episode is next, and you wouldn't know how many to mark without intuiting it somehow (e.g. by air date).

In my mind trackers are one of the more prevalent downstream use cases of this data. I don't know if tmdb mods care about stuff like that. But I thought I should share the experience of using the data as it's currently structured.

Thank you!

@udoprog , let me guess you're using Trakt? Trakt got a lot of bite back when they switched from thetvdb to tmdb ... and now it's very obvious what one of the reasons is, looking at this series.

My own actually (not done). But trakt would have the same UX.

Thanks. Interesting I’ll take a look at it in more detail later. Could come in handy as Trakt had a week long outage around the year end, so running something local might be good idea.

Damn I see the same issue with Urusei Yatsura is happening here too. Hahaha this website is a joke.

I agree that is not being handled well but bruh, stop with your name calling shit. Guy is a mod for a free site. Chill the fuck out.

No, he is not. He is following the rules of the website he is a moderator, he has no choice in the matter. I don't think he made the rules, so you don't have to blame him. You can complain about the rule itself, but be respectful with someone that's just doint his job.

I do think in this matter there is a difference to what is said in the rules (there is nothing there about what should be done if an episobe has segments and only the first one has a description in the oficial website), but like I said before, it is up to them to know how to apply their rules.
