In the season premiere we learned that Amy's father is living and that Sheldon has some degree of familiarity with him. I am guessing that we will eventually meet him with the upcoming nuptials.
What do you think he will be like? Strict like her mother? A quiet academic?
Who would be best to play him? I would love to see it be Robert Carradine. First he'd make a great nerd dad and it would be funny since his brother is already on the show.
I think there's a lot of comedic potential with Amy's parents.

What if Amys father is Howards Father !
Or maybe Amys father is the mailman who delivers Sheldons mail.

I picture Amy as sort of a "daddy's girl" growing up.
If the actor who played Bridget Jones's dad can do an American accent--then he is our man.
NOTE TO GRAMMAR POLICE:
Don’t blame me for that s’s – blame the Brits.

While I won't say that being a daddy's girl is out of the realm of possibility, I'd be more inclined to buy into that theory if Amy had mentioned her father before on the show. She has complained about her mother being strict, but never mentioned going to her father for any consolation. Then again, we did not know that Penny was a daddy's girl until we actually saw her with her father, so there's that.

Amy's mother seemed just a worry wart, to use an old timey phrase. Maybe Amy's mother was like Penny in her youth, kind of slutty and wanted to spare Amy of her mistakes. Her father might be the opposite.

Could be. I remember Amy saying that when she was bad her mother would lock her in the "sin closet" and she would try to watch 60 Minutes through the slats. Sounded a bit like "Carrie"!
My prediction is that her parents will be very quiet and reserved and the comedy will come from their interactions with the more gregarious Penny and the clueless Sheldon.
Speaking of special closets, my grandparents used to have a really cool closet off of their family room. When we would go over there, sometimes for many hours at a time, I'd go in there and play. By choice. And it was fun. It wasn't quite as fun to go to my other grandparents' house, though. I was stuck watching Hee Haw over there.

I hope it has NOTHING to do with Howard's father. They've already spent WAY too much time on Howard's roots.
Personally, I hope if they introduce him at all, it's just for the wedding episode - "one and done" scenario. This show is already spread way too thin as it is, and with only 17-18 minutes per episode of actual airtime, and likely only a few seasons left, I want the focus to be on the main characters, and not introducing new recurring characters to an already overcrowded cast. But that's just me. The new showrunner may want to put his own spin on a new character.

I agree that Amy's parents should not become recurring characters. I'm basically envisioning them being in 1-2 episodes right around the wedding. I found the scene where Amy and Sheldon facetimed her mother to be particularly funny. Plus I think getting a glimpse of the parents adds depth to the main characters.

The first and only time we saw Amy's mother Sheldon was telling how he and Amy were having coitus in an embarrassing way. The "sin closet" line came from Amy just talking about her, and then Amy's mother talked to Penny and Penny had to put Amy in the sin closet. I hope that business is done with. I hope they take a different approach to this Amy business. I see Amy's mother as a bigger Amy. Maybe her father is just like her too. Three Amy's !!! We will need a bigger sin closet

Amy's father should be William Shatner...or Dan from Roseanne we've had three Roseanne cast members on the show already.

Well Shatner played the dad on the sitcom, "...My Father Says" so, he can’t be ruled out as dad-material. But, I think it would be great to have an “unknown” or "lesser known" as Amy’s dad. That way it’s more about the storyline and less about the person. Also, it’s probably easier to “recur” an unknown/lesser than a known.
As for Goodman, he is a favorite. If they were going to have a “name”; then he would do nicely. The only reason I wouldn't want to see him as Amy’s father is BECAUSE of the "Roseanne" connections. As you said, there are already three (Mrs. C./Leonard/Leslie). And, that’s enough--anymore and we are leaning toward cute—I hate cute.
