CBS has released the first trailer for their upcoming TBBT spinoff Young Sheldon. I'm sure as most of you know it's a prequel based around Sheldon as a young kid.
Personally, I think it looks decent. I'm not a huge TBBT viewer. I watch the show on occasion. I don't love it and I don't hate it. I'll probably check out the spinoff because I mostly liked the trailer.
One thing that instantly stood out to me was the fact it is being shot single-cam and not multi-cam with a laugh track. I honestly can't think of any other multi-cam series that had a single-cam spinoff. Based off the trailer it already seems like it would be better off as a multi-cam series, but we'll see. I'm a fan of both single-cam and multi-cam sitcoms, but sadly the amount of multi-cam sitcoms on TV keep dwindling. Any time a network has the opportunity to go with a multi-cam show I say go for it.

I doubt they'll be able to keep up viewer interest for very long. But did you know that the actress playing Young Sheldon's mother Mary is the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf who plays his mother in the original series? She also played a younger version of her mother's character for the show Roseanne.

Reminds me of _Junior _ from the movie "Problem Child". Also, brings to mind the new TV show "Speechless" (John Ross Bowie)...it found its audience; maybe this will too.
Metcalf's voice is a spot-on reminder of her mom's.

To quote The Church Lady, "How convEEEEnient!"
But it does provide a nice link to the original show.
(By the way, the actress playing Young Sheldon's mother is named Zoe Perry, not Metcalf. Her father is Jeff Perry.)

I actually enjoyed the trailer and am going to at least give the show a chance. I have always been in the great minority of those who think that if the writers capitalize on the funny stories from Sheldon's youth, it could be funny.

Maybe. But it could easily - and maybe after a while, if they can't think of other stuff, it WILL - turn into something like if from original Star Trek they had given Chekov his own show where he just makes "Russia inwented that!" jokes all the time.
Or it could be like a "Doogie Howser" where Young Sheldon writes in his journal at the end of every episode. about what he "learned" that day. But Sheldon doesn't really learn stuff, at least in the usual way. And what he'd figure he "learned" - maybe "build a bigger doggie death ray to deal with pit bulls!" - would, if funny at all, probably stop being funny after a while.

Was that the actor that played Leonard's high school bully Larry Speckerman as Young Sheldons Dad ?

Young Sheldon ? How about Young Wheaton instead!

Because Wheaton didn't try to order yellow cake uranium or build a death ray. I wanna see that for sure!

But Wheaton got all badass in "Stand By Me" . Plus he also hit Sheldon's Enchanted Bunny with his small rock.

But I want to see the yellow cake uranium story. What IS yellow cake uranium anyway?? Do you use it to make Betty Crocker butter recipe cake? If so, they better not use Sheldon's pee cup!!

Saw the trailer and Im not sold yet. Honestly the style feels dated, like they tried to emulate late 80s, early 90s shows.

I don't think it will have the success of TBBT, but I do anticipate it will last at least 1-2 seasons and will have some funny parts.
