His storyline going forward should be interesting. Assuming Rick and his alliance defeat the Saviors, does he stay with them? Does he try to make nice with Alexandria? Would they ever accept him back? I think not. Negan seems to be suspicious. Maybe he ends up at Hilltop or the Kingdom. Lots to ponder.

I can't them putting anyone on trial for war crimes. If enough of the government remains intact in some safe haven somewhere, and law and order is eventually restored, there will probably be plenty of trials (although a lot of cases could never be proven due to lack of evidence). To really trust Eugene, and not just keep him around under supervision as their resident engineer/tinkerer, he'd have to do something to actually help them against Negan. He does have access to the Sanctuary and its equipment. An act of sabotage at the right time (during an attack on the facility for example) is the sort of thing that would convince Rick he was never really loyal to the Saviors, just trying to survive.

Spoilers for the comics about Eugene
Eugene does not betray anyone. He is a valuable member of Rick and Co, and runs the entire munition factory.

Spoiler about Talking Dead!
Sonequa said something interesting while she on Talking Dead. She kept using the word self - preservation while talking about character's motives.. I think that's what Eugene is doing. Eugene becoming Negan is an act of self-preservation.
Should I elaborate more or do you understand what that means in the context that I've written it. Or do you go have to watch last weeks episode of Talking Dead before responding?

Straight off on the offensive eh?
Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious though. We all know that Eugene is fearful of everything in the post-apocalyptic world and will do anything to survive, even bullshit that he's got important biological work to do in Washington. That is self-preservation in action. ;)

That was the worst episode of Talking Dead, ever! Oh my god, the fucking Sonequa love was annoying. The whole fucking hour was basically dedicated to her. Why? Because she died? Oh boo fucking hoo. I wanted to hear something about Dwight or Eugene and all we got was fucking Sasha Sasha Sasha. Lol, I sound like that girl from the Brady bunch always complaining about how Marsha gets all the attention.

I thought that I was the only one annoyed with Sonequea repeating herself. Her farewell interview feast went on way too long. Everything she said was the same thing in like 3 different ways. I did get emotional during her in memoriam. That slow motion tight shot of her zombie maul as she's attacking that veggie dude was so poignant. (Sniffle) R.I.P Sash..

What Sonequa said was illuminating to me, and oh so true...when we first met her, she was working under the Governor, no? Doing whatever he wanted done. Then, after she joined Rick's group, it was simply about survival for her because their existences were so hard. So, I agree...initially, her character was all about self-preservation.

Some of their motives I understand and don't judge too harshly. But I do remember that Sasha and Tyreese were grateful for being taken into a community and out of their situation in constant danger. They wanted to contribute in exchange for security. They didn't know exactly what a madman The Governor was when they first joined Woodbury and didn't know for a while.
They thought Rick was crazy too. Remember? Rick was acting crazy when they met Rick. Although Rick wasn't acting like a murderous psychopath. He was hallucinating. But later on once they realized that Rick wasn't as psychotic as The Governor, they switched sides.
Eugene's expression of self-preservation seems more like a filthy traitor to me. Daryl was under captivity as well yet he never switched sides like Eugene did. Daryl only cooperated to stay alive but did so begrudgingly. Eugene is willing. I think that Eugene would be highly upset if he had to go back to the life and status he had at Alexandria.

Solid.....however, I actually got aboard after this part you're referring to when they met Rick. I need to play catch-up. It's interesting: for some reason when I look back at the Governor eps of the show, they seem boring to me, although I know that he's a better villain than Negan is.

What I loved about the recent all-Eugene and Dwight ep of the show in the last season was that I could relate to Eugene in it. Eugene is no Daryl...he's cowardly. As that girl led him to his quarters in the Sanctuary, I seem to recall him crying. The way I see it, there's a thin line between everything. What Daryl did was brave, and then he killed the fat guy and escaped. Eugene doesn't want anyone to get hurt, but people did get hurt...it's traitorous, but he could turn out to be a monkey wrench in Neg's plans anyway. He was a monkey wrench in that his and Sasha's gambit caused Rick and co. to beat Neg's people in that first battle.

Sasha begged him to do that. Eugene didn't offer it and he certainly did not give her the idea either.

He's transformed into one of the show's most interesting characters. I never would've thought that three seasons ago. I don't see him getting the chop anytime soon.
