Discuss The Walking Dead

His storyline going forward should be interesting. Assuming Rick and his alliance defeat the Saviors, does he stay with them? Does he try to make nice with Alexandria? Would they ever accept him back? I think not. Negan seems to be suspicious. Maybe he ends up at Hilltop or the Kingdom. Lots to ponder.

Okay. Negan offers Eugene room and board under strict scrutiny whereas Alexandria offers houses with yards. The property is better protected. A scavenge hunt could produce a game system if Eugene wanted one.

Are you seriously that blinded by your own opinions that you don't see that Eugene has it way better with Negan than he ever did with Rick?

Honestly, I'm totally confused with the Eugene issue. On one hand, I think that he should not be forgiven. He betrayed his 'friends', the ones that kept him alive. After seeing how Negan did Glenn and Abe, he still thought it was a good idea to become "Negan".

But on the other hand, is a valuable commodity. He may not be the big scientist that he lied about being, but he has enough brain power to be very useful. But I would still have to think about the betrayal.

I don't see it as a betrayal. This isn't a "you're either with me or against me," kind of thing. This was a job opportunity too good to pass up. Even if it was with the competing company you've been hating since you started your career.

You know what? I'm beginning to think that Eugene has actually become a bad guy. He tells Dwight that he was a Negan before he realized that he was. Maybe he's discovered his true nature and is self preserving it. He's not a good guy anymore.

@lennonforever So how does he get Rick and Co to accept him back?

IDK in the TV show, but as been said in posts above, he has to do a quite courageous act and maybe volunteer to sacrifice himself. Maybe in the show, he will NEVER be able to be redeemed and will die?

Spoiler about Talking Dead!

Sonequa said something interesting while she on Talking Dead. She kept using the word self - preservation while talking about character's motives.. I think that's what Eugene is doing. Eugene becoming Negan is an act of self-preservation.

Should I elaborate more or do you understand what that means in the context that I've written it. Or do you go have to watch last weeks episode of Talking Dead before responding?

Of course, Eugene is "self-preserving", no one doubts that.

He's transformed into one of the show's most interesting characters. I never would've thought that three seasons ago. I don't see him getting the chop anytime soon.

Oh I agree, he is really intriguing me. I usually loathe character-centric episodes, but his was fascinating.

So, has everybody abandoned the possibility that Eugene may have a plan, or that he and Rick may've concocted some sort of scenario whereby he's an inside man?

I'm not sure at this point if Eugene has a plan, I'm siding with ,no plan, more than , plan.

But who is Eugene really? That's big question.

I'd like to think he's got some clever plan up his sleeve. But right now, I have to go with no particular plan. In this world you have to take it as it comes. Right now he has more power and responsibility than he's probably ever had in his life; it would be a mistake to think that people actually respecting and listening to him doesn't hold real allure, because it does. Should the time come when switching sides seems less risky and/or more rewarding I'm sure he would. Eugene is a master of doing what's best for Eugene at any given moment. If there's anything more going on with him than that, we have yet to see any evidence of it.
