Discuss The Walking Dead

That was the best episode in a long time!!! They really pulled out all the shots!!! I was holding my breath thinking that Daryl was going to get shot when he was on top of whatever he was standing on at the end, while looking around!!!

ABSOLUTELY!! This was decidedly different than the shaking, quivering Rick in the first ep of the season.

Wasn't the shaking, quivering Rick only after the bludgeoning in Ep1? I'm pretty sure he was "defiant" right up to that moment. #same

Nah. In episode one, Rick looked lost, in complete despair. After he made his threat and gave Negan the death stares, that's when Corrrrrrrrrllllll was placed in danger by ordering Rick to chop his forearm off. Rick's tail went right up between his legs.

This time, he stopped letting Negan get to him by using his people as pawns. One way or another, even if Rick was the last man standing, he was determined to take Negan out. That's what's changed - taking away Negan's ability to break people down psychologically.

I was rooting for Rick and saying "fuck yeah". He was beyond preserving his life to fight another day. That was clear defiance and a fuck you to Negan. I can totally respect that.

Someone in another thread talked about the Saviors having a feudal system, with a ruling royalty and the rest peasants who exist to provide for them. Eventually, if the peasants are treated badly enough, they band together and overthrow the ruling elite because they feel like they have nothing to lose. That is where Rick and Co are right now, and I think Negan gets it. That's why he is calling for war. It is all or nothing for both at this point.

Only took 16 episodes to get to that point. :)

I loved how Rick told neegan he will kill him.

Yeah, he keeps saying it, but he keeps not doing it. So stupid.

Didn't Rick already say that exact same thing to Negan before? And there he was saying it again like he had never said it before. It has kind of lost its umph. I didn't "believe" him. A couple of good moments, but nothing like the show it used to be.

Rick said it in the opener, but this was a different Rick. I think if Carl would have gotten the bat, Rick would have been even more determined to say what he said to Negan, and mean it!

If Carl (Corl!) woulda have gotten the bat, I think Rick would have been killed with his hands around Negan's throat.

Unless Negan got his hands first sob

The show would have been over by now had it not.

What the heck is that supposed to mean?

People would have given up on the show en masse if they hadn't had Rick do that thing?

I'm still not satisfied though; Sasha bit the big one to try to take Negan out, took him by surprise, and still failed. What kind of shit is that?

I didn't really get Rick's "defiance". Hardly a realistic last act against Negan - it was almost as if he expected a tiger to roll into town and save the day 🤔

Why didn't he just bite his neck like we've seen him do previously when the situation has pretty much become life threatening?

Really? Bite his neck while he's on the ground and Negan is standing over him...with Lucille? Some fans are already whining about the finally. Your ending would cause a damn riot.

Yeah, exactly - he thinks he and Carl are for the chop anyway so what difference does it make if Negan's holding Lucille or not 😂

My ending would never have happened because he was only written to be being held in that position in the first place, making that defiant speach, so the same writers could subsequently have the tiger roaring into shot to save the day...

Otherwise his speach makes no sense when we've previously seen, him in a similar position, at least make a fist of it.
