Hey LizDuv,
ArcherOG comparison was abstract. Added you put the legendary Janis Joplin in his cross-hairs does make it seem silly. So let's be more specific yet continue ArcherOG's point.
Example: HLN's Robin Meade. She's gorgeous, smart, charismatic, sexy, and professional. Once considered easy on the eyes and ears. But you'd be wearing rose colored glasses if you ignored the toll cigarettes has taken on her voice. Now does that make me a troll for pointing out an obvious observation, especially since it's part of her role. Like wise the fore mentioned character on TWD is a concern as her appearance distracts from the presentation of the theater performance. It's not a troll like thing to point out such a thing, nor is it an attack on the person. Just an observation on the performance (not the performer).
Thank you. Exactly the point I thought I was making.
@ArcherOG sooooo you don't like Janis Joplin? Just curious. But in all honesty not sure what cigarettes/alcohol and singing (because those items actually harm singing) has to do with skinny/fat/short/tall etc...etc = actor/actress. Seriously that is actually asinine.
The general consensus is if you are going to choose a profession where people have to look at you consistently then proper etiquette dictates that you try and look the best possible. It also makes more sense for the actor to do this if they want to get more roles. If you are going to choose to be sloppy then you better be friggin' Cate Blanchett in the acting chops department because dumpy looking, mediocre actors are not in high demand. I know she just had a baby so she deserves some slack but young actors can and should try to maintain a nice physique.
Thank you. I'm not sure why some people take it so personally that others notice a fat actor is fat or why it's a crime expect a professional to not be a sloppy cow.

Cuz they prolly out of shape and take offense to it. People need to come to grips man. ShowBiz is greatly about the way one looks. Now if I was talking about my accountant and saying she is fat and why is she fat that is a different story. She doesn't need to be in shape to do her job and it affects her work even less. However an actor needs to be shapely. Sorry folks. Way it is. Fkn deal with it snowflake.
I have to disagree with a couple of points in this thread.
Tara is not fat.
There could very well be fat people in the ZA. Some body types just naturally retain weight more than others. A lot of the food they are scavenging is probably packaged, processed and full of sodium and/or sugar. Not eating healthy, natural propensity to hold onto fat, could add up to overweight. Probably not grossly obese, which Tara is not, but overweight or at least not an ideal physique.
Jackie Gleason, Jonathan Winters, Lou Costello, Shelly Winter (later years), Kevin James , Kathy Bates, John Goodman, Kirstie Alley (later years), Oprah Winfrey, Al Roker, Roseanne Barr, Drew Carey, Jorge Garcia, John Candy, John Belushi, Queen Latifah, Jessica Simpson (later years), Jason Alexander, Vincent Pastore, William Shatner, Camryn Manheim, Orson Welles, Charles S. Dutton, Anthony Anderson, Jill Scott, etc...

Jonnie, I'm loving the conversation. If Tara is not fat then what is she? I mean, you started out calling her 'not fat' but towards then end acknowledge she's overweight. Come on, are we agreeing but just not on the semantics? If your doctor told ya that you're overweight then you're being told you're too fat. If Doc tells ya that you're on the high end of a healthy weight then you're on the chubby side.
For the record, I prefer women with curves. I'm not a youngster so I appreciate something to hold on to but let's be real, it's fat. Sexy wonderful fat that makes ya keep coming back. And I'm also fat. No big deal. Call it what it is, don't be ashamed of it. If you are, change it.
Ok one final point. I didn't really want to tackle point #2 because I don't really know anyone with that medical condition so I can't speak to it but.... It's the ZA! Civilization is done! How long do you expect people to survive with medical conditions?
OK burger, I see your point. I should have left off the reference to Tara in the second comment. I was trying to make the point that not everyone in the ZA would be thin.
Using your scale, I would say she is on the high end of a healthy weight.
Fair of you to call me out on it, though.
I wasn't talking about a medical condition. My reference was to the endomorph/ectomorph/ mesomorph body types.
Jackie Gleason, Jonathan Winters, Lou Costello, Shelly Winter (later years), Kevin James , Kathy Bates, John Goodman, Kirstie Alley (later years), Oprah Winfrey, Al Roker, Roseanne Barr, Drew Carey, Jorge Garcia, John Candy, John Belushi, Queen Latifah, Jessica Simpson (later years), Jason Alexander, Vincent Pastore, William Shatner, Camryn Manheim, Orson Welles, Charles S. Notice the fat guys are comedic actors. No coincidence there. Orson Welles made his bones long before he got fat. Kirstie Alley couldn't nab a role when she ballooned up. Looks like Scientology cure her of her drug problem but couldn't cure her of her overeating. Jessica Simpson?! HA! Yeah, she got a lot of work as a tubby. Oprah Winfrey? Please. She had one role and thats it. Queen Fatifah, don't blink or you woulda missed her. She made her bones in music not acting. Face it, very few big women are successful in Hollywood.
You said show biz and Oprah is a huge ( no pun intended) celebrity. Orson Welles was always on the heavy side. What does the type of acting have to do with it? And there are more "big woman" than the ones I mentioned. But there were also quite a few that you couldn't just discount.

Orson Welles was not. Did you ever seen his magnum opus Citizen Kane? He didn't get fat until 20 years after he was famous. And yes there are places for character actors to play fatties. Riddle me this and this list will be short indeed. How many hefty actors are LEADING men or women? That's right, top billing. Not even Marlon Brando, arguably the greatest Hollywood actor ever, got top billing after he became a fatty. Case fkn closed.
Chris Farley - Tommy Boy, John Belushi - Animal House, John Goodman - The Big Lebowski, Jackie Gleason - The Hustler, The Honeymooners, Lou Costello - Abbott & Costello, John Candy - Uncle Buck, Billy Gardell/ Melissa McCarthy - Mike & Molly, Melissa McCarthy (again) - Bridesmaids, Rebel Wilson - Pitch Perfect, Roseanne Barr- Roseanne, She-Devil, Look Who's Talking Too etc.., Gabourey Sidibe - Precious, Mo'Nique - Precious, Raini Rodriguez - Austin & Ally, America Ferrera - Ugly Betty, Raven Symone - That's So Raven, A Girl Like Grace, Revenge of the Bridesmaids etc... And just for shits and giggles - Marlon Brando - The Score

I said no funny Fat guys. Too tough for ya eh?
OVER THE LINE! Mark it zero!
Without editing your post asking me "Riddle me this and this list will be short indeed. How many hefty actors are LEADING men or women? " please tell me where it said that? The problem is, I proved you wrong and you can not just admit it.

You haven't though. I never said there wasn't ANY fat people in the movies. That is a ridiculous statement. I also specifically said that if you are gonna be a tubby that you better have acting chops. Then you started naming fat actors that were either comedic actors or actors that started off skinny and then became fat. Comedic actors is an exception because its because of their fatness they are being cast. It's "Ha, ha! Look at the fat guy/girl jump around struggling to do what regular sized people do with ease". I mean, sure you can count those but can you really? Especially since most of them die young and suffer from great emotional issues because of being known as "The fat funny guy" ? Now if we are going to talk about the girl that plays Tara (Alanna Masterson) which is what started the conversation in the first place then she falls in neither the "Ha ha! Look at me I'm fat girl in little coat." category nor has acting chops which means DING DING DING DING! She's in big trouble if she doesn't start smoking some Slim Fast, pronto.
