Discuss The Walking Dead

So went over to IMDb and posted a few links to this site on several active threads. Lets see what happens. And... it's true... a lot and I mean a lot of the threads there are pure garbage. Sex with the dead etc.

Let's make the trolls and idiots that do come here among the good posters feel unwanted. It's nice to have a new home.

I have the same bad habit but the guilt rankles.

I also try to update cast and bios and other stuff here. Any time you can't find something you need here, find it elsewhere and add it here. Eventually this will be every bit as dense as IMDb. If we all work on it, it should happen quickly.

You're speaking of those "edits" I see on a user's profile page?

Is there anything special one has to do, to become an editor?

I've already been able to edit some information and correct it and add some info to pages myself. If you find something that needs corrected, try to correct it. If there is a problem there is another board here for mentioning the problem to the site moderators and so far from what I see the moderators here are people...I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case at IMDB.

I've actually been really really good with NOT going to IMDb for anything. I'm a little surprised as I did initially say that I would still use IMDb because it has a lot of content that I look for, but another poster made a great point about not even giving them the little bit of traffic that would generate. I even held off when what I was looking for couldn't be found here. I just decided it wasn't worth giving IMDb the click.

You make an excellent point. We can help make this site just as resourceful as IMDb. I think I'll start doing that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I feel the same way. I refuse to give them any traffic any more. If I can't find it here, I'll look on Wikipedia or just do a web search. I can't believe they treated their loyal fan base and customers like this.

There may have been a few human beings in the loop but there are indications that at least a few of those supposed moderators were trolling the boards themselves. I remember one user who complained vehemently about the trolls saying his account was messed up, for example there was a 60 minute posting quota imposed (i.e. he could only make one post per hour) and the trolls he was arguing with seemed to know this had happened without him mentioning it. I heard other similar stories from several members. You can read between the lines there. Most reports were clearly being handled by an automated system, since the takedown of reported posts and/or threads occurred regardless of merit and with a delay of almost exactly 1 hr 20 min every time, like clockwork. No matter how grievous an account's abuse became or how many times they were reported though, no action beyond that was ever taken against anyone.

If posts were auto deleted based on complaints I'm surprised I never had any of mine deleted in all those years. I was a raging bitch to many many stupid people.

ETA: really? We're censoring language even more strictly than network TV here? The word b I t c h has been allowed on prime time for over 20 years.

I'm not sure which mealie-mouthed precious whiner insisted that naughty words would bruise their virgin eyes, but let's not go mass-moderator here, please. We aren't responsible for children's use of the internet (and again, that word doesn't even give a movie a pg13 rating). Parents are responsible.

I'm far more offended by censorship than by naughty no-no words.

A lot of newbies and infrequent users didn't even know the report function existed. The only people I personally ever reported were the ones who came there to be disruptive. Never people who just disagreed with me or I found irritating. As I've pointed out before, troll posting histories look very different than even the most opinionated of legitimate users. So if anyone did review my reports, they would've seen that yes, this person is an obvious troll and that one is clearly spamming. Why they never took action against accounts with massive histories of abuse I could never understand - and it made their blaming of trolls for the board closure ring hollow. But yeah, it took almost exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes for a reported post to vanish. If human beings were looking at the reports they were doing it with a machinelike, clockwork regularity.

Here here! Expletives serve to accent my language, and unless they're used in an abusive manner, I resent being edited.

Here's a news flash: most kids have heard these words before! In fact most of them use said words themselves - out of earshot of their parents of course. And adults try not to use them when the children are around. That's the number one excuse for all forms of censorship. What about the children? Sometimes it's a legitimate point, granted, but other times (like here) it's just plain silly.

My ignore list from the IMDB board was a mile long thanks to The Walking Dead board. That was ridiculous. I'm sure they'll try to find their way here but I hope this site has better moderation.

Yep, mine, too. About 400 trolls. The process there was a bit tedious.

I am making a concerted effort to NEVER go to the IMDb for anything! Nor, am I using Amazon for anything. I just google anything I want to answer.

I've taken to looking up items on Amazon but ordering directly from their third party vendors, bypassing them. And with my ad blocker the bastards don't make a dime off my visit either.

I always knew that a good old fashioned fu*ck you 🖕 was a two-way street.

For what it's worth...kudos to you and everyone boycotting Amazon and its affiliates. 👍👊

Had a look at IMDBArchive site - especially to check out The Walking Dead board. There were 110 pages of trollery! and that was only a few weeks worth. Those guys and gals are out there wandering free on the internet. The mind boggles !!!!
