Sorry, but I have to give my opinion on this show now after hanging in for season 7.
Is it decent? Yeah. But at season 7, that's all it is: decent. With impressive graphics.
** Seasons 1-4, even 5 & 6 were good.**
This show got me hooked in seasons 1-4, 5, and some great episodes at the end of 6, but after watching what happened tonight on the supposed climactic season finale, I have to say that most of the things I liked about the show barely exist anymore, and the things I didn't like about the show have become more dominant now. And for this to all happen in the season finale just solidifies it because this is their chance to end with a bang and what matters most to them. So this is it.
Leaks Destroy a Mediocre Script
Also, the show is not good enough to survive the leaks it releases. If it was good enough, the spoilers might not impact the viewing experience, but the most mediocre spoiler release really impacts what has become a mediocre show. Thank users on this site like Leo Red Keep and komrad for that.
*Bright Spots *
On a bright note, I must say that the acting of Lena Headey and Jaime's actor, Tyrion's at times, and Dany's at times really give the show credibility, and the scenery of course is great. also, the music is usually good and on point. But overall, the direction that the show has gone in during and after this season has made me lose interest. I was really into the show after a binge watch, but because I binged it, the direction the show was headed in was a sure thing, and then suddenly it abruptly changed and is like a completely different show all of a sudden. it makes much of what I watched for 5 seasons seem irrelevant in a way.
** It Fails in Direction and Plot Development**
It's all about the direction. The plot really got mashed up at some point and it no longer has the occasional magic it once did. I guess my point in summation is that I was going to give this show a fair chance to see if it was really as great as the hype and people raved about, and it in fact did impress me for 5 seasons and the climax of season 6, but with the direction it has gone in season 7, it looks like another show that ruined itself in the end, the final season or two, which is the case for most tv shows. Danaerys and tyrion are fractions of the usual selves at this point, all for plot set up, and they were two of my favorites. The night king and the wall scene at the end, while impressive with graphics, was silly.
** Enough With the Zombie Apocalypse-to much time allocated to that side of the story & other forced elements**
The whole zombie thing never interested me, and from season 1 I always thought it was the weakest link. Now it has taken center stage and there's no turning back. The Snow-Dany romance is one of the most "forced" romances I've ever seen. It never had a natural ambiance to it so whatever. I'm just not interested in this show anymore.
And I guess my case and point is that it is not on the level of Breaking Bad, unless you are a big fan of fantasy series and fantasy stuff, which I'm not. Sure, two different genres, to be fair, but this show is just not "that" good. I don't think I'll be watching in season 8, at least not until after it airs I might binge watch it after.
Sorry for the rant. Just got done watching the finale and wanted to vent all my feelings here. If you made it this far, feel free to agree or disagree, or leave your comments about how you feel about the show.
Cheers.

Well, it's part preferences and also part natural trajectory. Sure, I felt that the moment Arya took the path north instead of south was a big disappointment and anticlimactic, but at the same time it didn't make any sense based on what we'd come to know about her "motives" and character.
From my view, she was on a warranted mission to seek vengeance on those that killed her father right in front of her face and traumatized her. She remained true to this motive and mission every step of the way in each season, but then suddenly given the choice, and facing two different roads, she decides to go home. To me, no way. She was going right to KL to finish the slaying of the names on her list. But, okay, the show says otherwise; so okay, fine, but I don't believe it.

Though I don't like the "TWD" feeling that I get, I have always felt that this was the direction we've been heading for since the very first episode. I agree with you that the final scene was a bit over the top. A smaller whole would have sufficed. It was only one dragon after all...

Again...if you haven't read the books, then you can't really call those things deus ex machina. Jon is DEFINITELY not Ned Stark's son. It has yet to be revealed in the books that he isn't, but it's the worst kept secret in the story. The show and the books have dropped so many hints for this. Go back to season 1, Ned says to Jon "next time I see you, I'll tell you about your mother." The books go into far more detail hinting at Jon's real parents.
The other things...Ben Jen appearing out of nowhere, Jon taking a Greyjoy nap under the ice, etc. They are all poor writing with lack of explanation. You could explain that Bran sent a signal to Ben Jen to save Jon. Ben Jen in fact says the 3 Eye Raven speaks to him in a previous episode. Jon surviving hypothermia could be due to his Starkness or being resurrected. But I doubt they ever explain either one. It's just a leap of faith. The show has suffered because of time constraints. Too many things happening that defy belief with the explanation cut for lack of screen time.

No, I believe that Jon is a Targaryen and I've known he's not Ned's for a while, but now he is Aegon, who I was under the impression was an already established totally different character. Idk, I just found it far fetched. It's one thing if his last name was different due to the mistake all these years, sure, but now he's not even Jon, either. He's Aegon, another entirely different character I was under the impression existed. It's like (eyeroll).
Tbh, I'm really not a fan of Jon Snow for some reason. I have favorites, and I should like him for the fact he is from Ned and Winterfell background, allies (thought to be brother) of the Stark kids, and fights against the characters I do not like at all. But he's not one of my favorites like many others for all the attention he gets, and now they sensationalized that HE is the true heir to the throne. If I was a fan, which the show seems to assume I am, it might be good, but I'm not. It was a bummer. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but just not as much as I should or the show seems to think everyone does. They clearly have a thing for him and want him to be king of Westeros. Whether that happens or not, of course, is yet to be seen. He's just not the character I want to see get a "pre-anointing" with one (short) season remaining .
I forgot to mention, I will check the books out, thanks for the suggestion.

You're an idiot. Cersei and Jaime have had romantic scenes in abundance. Are you kidding? Do you even watch entire episodes? They're beyond the romance stage. Honestly, this show is so stupid at times that I really don't even care. Whether they're brother and sister or aunt nephew, it doesn't matter. It's so adolescent and appeals to teenagers.
"comparing the two is nothing less than a false equivalence"
Lol what a tool. Does your little pee brain hurt from trying so hard to sound intelligent?...when in fact you prove you're an idiot in the process? That is one of the dumbest statements I've read on here where someone tried so hard to sound smart. I'm sure you are far away from an advanced degree.
Also, learn comprehension re-tard, the equivalence is graphic sex of all kinds; it's not shocking. You really are a typical GOT fanboy. This show is so stupid at times it appeals to idiots such as you. Lol. What a moron. You're the reason many former fans are now leaving their original praise of the show. Keep showing the world what useless low life braindead fanboy idiots actually love the show so intelligent people can see how stupid it really is.
They say GOT fans are the new Transformers fans. I'm starting to agree.

True, and funny you say that and pick that out. I thought most people would like that scene, and maybe they do, although I saw a few reviews also on IMDB that mentioned they didn't like it. By the way, IMDB has some brutally honest reviews after this season and episode too; you can tell they're real genuine fans too, and not trolls, who are disappointed. They bring up great points that I mostly agree with. One thing I didn't realize that some are saying is that the night king wouldn't be invading if not for "king of the north" Jon Snow going to "catch a wight", which aggravated him and gave him Viserion to break the wall down. They're like "so much for the hero" whose dumb decisions led to the whole thing now. That's what I means about Snow, too; for the creators to try to make him "the one" he isn't likable in his decision making and is kind of dumb.
And btw, something else (as I said the list is so long I can go on and on) to mention: Euron is right to just go to the far side of the world in this event. Sure, egos and pride would have some characters stay and fight, but in a way, the stakes aren't as high as it seems and turns out with the night army invasion...Just go to another continent/country across the sea and colonize there, in such grave danger...I'm surprised the writers revealed that through Euron bc they were doing a good job of hiding that simple solution behind the curtain to make the night army invasion threat more formidable. I thought that, but one recent reviewer really just hits that on the head, too. So Cersei goes with Euron at worst to another country...
But anyway, yeah, that final scene was just not that good for being a major season cliffhanger and the stakes it was supposed to portray.

The whole Aegon thing..it's because of Rhaegar's fascination with the Prince who was Promised prophecy. He was convinced this person's name must be Aegon. When his first son was murdered, Lyanna may have took it upon herself to continue this notion. These are book details that help explain it. I agree the show does a poor job of explaining a lot of things, the Aegon name issue is one of them.
As for the other guy claiming Jaime and Cersei's relationship has never been romantic? Uhh...not sure what show or books you've been watching/reading. That's 100% wrong haha.

My rule-of-thumb on Internet discussion sites : When a poster starts resorting to insults, it means that he has run out of intelligent arguments.

Then you would be referring to mechajutoro or whatever their name....Intelligent is not something I associate with this show at this point anymore, which is why I won't be watching season 8 the way I did season 7. Intelligence in this show is as prevalent as in Transformers or Star Wars the Force Awakens, which explains its fanboys.

Okay. Thanks for some explanation. That's what the problem is, also: lazy writing. They're leaving out small scenes that could help them explain these events better, which is really inexcusable if you want a high quality show. But it's good to know since they left this out. And yeah, I'm not sure what show they are watching.
I actually like the show, but this season and the season finale I thought were the worst yet. But the biggest disappointment (since shows can have weaker seasons) is that on top of this, I really do not like the "direction" it is going in into the final season, which makes me lose interest in anticipating it. I came a long way to catch up on a show that I actually did end up liking, only to be let down in real time by season 7 jumping the shark.

Well, Jon did admit to Theon that he didn't always make the right decisions, or something along that line. This was a prime example. And making such a stupid mistake fits my idea that these series can't end well. Winter is coming (or has been for many years), it's going to be a long one.... (I believe someone somewhere said) so it can't just end before it's hardly started just because Jon and Daenerys team up. Jon's mistake just helped the winter along.

Fanboys shouldn't read valid criticism of their shows if they can't handle reality or other peoples' experience. Go read all the IMDB reviews after the last 2 episodes, especially. True fans totally blasting it now. But the Transformers and Star Wars type fanboys, of course, are fighting back, ridiculously claiming it was the best episode EVER!
Actually, Spoils of War was pretty great, but nothing else stood out, to say the least. This was the weakest season yet. Even the 7 episode thing was a flaw.

More proof this show is for juveniles and adolescents...Which is what its ultimate consensus and legacy will be. Another show that jumped the shark to appeal to the dumb masses and fanboys. All logic, good dialogue, character development, and good writing went out the window for special effects and plot devices. But it is better than The Walking Dead.
