Warner Bros. has sent out a press release announcing the movie, and it reveals some interesting info. For one, Zack Snyder, who co-wrote the story and produced the first movie is officially back as a producer. Gal Gadot will also be a producer on Wonder Woman 1984. We also have confirmation on the locations. The movie will shoot in Washington D.C., Alexandra, Virginia, the UK, Spain, and the Canary Islands.

I like that. But why are the Snyders still part of the production team? What makes WB think they can make a decent WW sequel? They did a not so bad job with MOS (RT 55%), remember? But the sequels were worthless crap.

TC won’t have a son, but he’ll be a mentor to the young pilots. Miles Teller will be one of the young male lead pilots.

Miles Teller is set to star opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to 1986 classic. 

The Whiplash star will play the son of Goose, Maverick (Cruise)'s former wingman and best friend, whose tragic death provided the emotional climax of the Tony Scott-directed original. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Teller beat out Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell, Dylan O'Brien, and Austin Butler for the role. 

The film will now envision Maverick as a mentor to the newest generation of fighter pilots, dealing with a world in which drone technology threatens to make their old style of flying obsolete. 

Top Gun: Maverick hits cinemas 12 July 2019.
