Discuss Henry Cavill

Henry is contractually obligated to play Superman one more time.

Do you want Superman solo or in a team (i.e., MOS 2 or JL 2) and why?

It’s not that HC can’t get MOS 2. WB just aint giving anybody anything right now.

Shazam was rushed, because he and Aquaman are supposed to free the DCEU from ZS’s dark influence.

A Joker film, but no BM film. Well, Joker is low budget and not part of the DCEU. BM is big budget, but he’s not a big draw anymore. Adding him to what was supposed to be MOS 2 but end up being BvS didn’t help the BO numbers. JL made even less than MOS.

GG got WW 2, because WW was a financial and critical success. MR gets BOP, because people loved her as HQ and they also want more heroines on the big screen. People loved WS as DS, but they may not be interested in another hero film.

Not much is known about Batgirl and Supergirl. Probably because they’re both starting from scratch. Too much risk.

Henry Cavill: The Only Superman We Need

Henry Cavill … was never rumored to be out as Superman until WB announced a stand-alone Supergirl film.

While the truth is still up in the air, one thing is for sure. If Henry Cavill exits as Superman WB and DC films are dead in the water.

First comes the look. Cavill looks like Clark Kent came to life right off the page. He’s got the size and build to look like a superhero. He’s got the clean-cut All-American boy down to a science. To top it off, he plays every bit of the character 100% down to a tee. When it comes to Clark Kent and Superman there’s no other actor out who looks more the part. He’s got the tough serious look as well as the soft and caring demeanor.

Then, of course, there’s the character himself. While the DCEU has been a mess in many people’s minds, Superman has been the strongest force on-screen. Judge the films as you will but Cavill has played the character exactly as he’s been asked. He’s been the soft-spoken outcast alien who doesn’t fit in a fearful society. He’s been the kind loving counterpart to Lois Lane. He’s been the dark, twisted, and threatening resurrection of his former self.

Finally, there’s the case of who’s going to replace him? ...when it all comes down to it, are we really ready to shoehorn a whole new actor into an already established universe? DC and Warner Bros have no plans to reboot the films…

If WB goes down that road and replaces Henry Cavill as Superman it’ll be too strange to have 75% of the cast be the same while changing a few others. With Superman alive and well in the current state of films, it would be too odd to write him out of the stories. Warner Bros. can save their universe if they just bite the bullet and push forward.

BTW, a huge star like Will Smith isn’t sure about his Deadshot film either. He wants it, but WB aint giving it to him. Why? He’s an A+ lister, people liked him as Deadshot and villain and anti-hero films are the films people want right now.

Will Smith Is Really Hoping For A Deadshot Movie

When recently asked about leading a movie, he said:

I hope so, I love playing Deadshot. I'm really enjoying that character. They've been talking about it. If a good idea comes around... we've been having meetings but I would love to. I love Deadshot.

Lots of talk, right? If a huge star like WS can’t get DS, why are we shocked that HC can’t get MOS 2? rofl

Deathstroke won’t happen either.

CBR

As the rumor went, Deathstroke’s appearance in Justice League‘s stinger was actually a prelude to his larger role in the DCEU, where he would be played by Joe Manganiello.

Manganiello, a huge fan of the character, was pumped and ready to don the villain’s iconic helmet in a larger role. Evans was even interested in taking on the challenge of developing a standalone film for the assassin. Now, though, it sounds like the dream of the Deathstroke solo movie has gone up in smoke.

The news came earlier this week, when someone finally tracked down Evans and pressed him on the matter of the Deathstroke movie. As it turns out, the director was only ever tangentially attached to the project, and that’s pressing the definition of the word. Apparently, Evans had “a few conversations” with DC about the character, and had even spoken to Manganiello about the role, but things never went any further than that.

Everything that's connected to the DCEU (MOS 2, Flash, DthS, DdS, GL, BM, BG, JL's Joker and even SS 2) are up in he air. Someone already mentioned why we get WW 2, BOP and JP’s Joker.

It’s obvious that WB want to change course. Both BvS and JL failed miserably. But even if they were huge hits, adding more heroines to their film slate would be a very good thing to do.

The announcement of an SG or GOS film doesn’t need to have any consequences for MOS 2. Like WW 1 and 2, GOS can happen before MOS.

Where was SG when the Kryptonians attacked Earth?

Where were BM and WW when the Kryptonians attacked Earth? Crickets.

And that’s how we know that BM and WW were never meant to be in MOS 2 a.k.a. BvS. BM was added to boost the BO numbers and WW to rush the creation of DCEU's version of The Avengers. Five film plan my @ss.

Right on the money.

They’re bringing CR back as SM by using holograms and SG is reported to be set in the 1970s.

The revelations were made at the 40th Anniversary screening of Richard Bonner's classic 1978 film with Christopher Reeve.

During a Q&A aferwards, Jack O'Halloran, who starred as the menacing but mute Kryptonian villain Non in Superman: The Movie, dropped the bomshell.

He said: "We’ve got something really super up our sleeve with the storyline. You’re going to really, really love it. Superman was the first America Superman, using the All-American way and the fact that there was no violence and killing…"

The 75-year-old star added: "For all your guys out there, we’ve got a plan in motion… We’re trying to make a deal with Warner Brothers now to bring Christopher back. To do another Superman..(using) hologram technology. To do the All-American way and take Superman back to a wholesome (place?). And I think we’re gonna pull it off.”

  • Firstly, neither Warner Bros nor Cavill have confirmed whether he is leaving the role, despite his commitment to the new Witcher TV show.
  • Secondly, why is a relatively low-profile actor making such a huge announcement?
  • Thirdly, why would they need to negotiate with Warner Bros and why would WB allow any other incarnation of one its most prized assets?

It sounds like this may be an independent, small-scale project. However, it does throw attention back on the issue of what WB will do with the character.

The time frame also links to the upcoming WB Supergirl reboot which is reported to be set in the 1970s.

One possible way a Christopher Reeve image could be used in that film is if the entire storyline is set in a separate timeline, raher like the current Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, which will operate separately from the main DCEU Justice League franchise.

Kevin Smith Thinks Not Making More Superman Movies Is a Mistake

“That’s a mistake,” Smith said. “I think you need to keep your big guy vital. This is the very first superhero ever created, the ‘king of the superheroes’ if you will, the one that paved the way for everybody else. While we’re in this amazing era, this renaissance of comic book movies, don’t leave your best guy on the bench.”

Smith went on to suggest that Warner Bros. may be making Superman a more complicated puzzle to solve than he ought to be, comparing his ponderous, heavily metaphorical character arc in Zack Snyder’s films to the simplicity of Richard Donner’s take.

“Just fcking hand it to somebody who’s going to make it what everybody knows that character to be,” Smith suggested. “The character’s a symbol of hope, man. Like, go back and watch 10 minutes of the Christopher Reeve Superman and use that as the DNA for what they do going forward. It’s not about some Christ parable, or he’s this fcking alien from another world, he’s just a good fcking dude. It’s that simple. You can make a movie about a good fcking dude.

If HC and DG were really difficult, WB would have released a statement like this:

Warners on Sunday confirmed Crawford will not return to the drama with a statement: "Warner Bros. Television has decided not to renew Clayne Crawford's contract for Lethal Weapon."

They won’t sugarcoat their statement if your behavior is jeopardizing things.

Exactly. A studio won’t water anything down or sugarcoat anything. Studios don’t need actors. Actors need studios. And websites need clicks. Controversy and bad news can get them a lot of clicks.

Hollywood Reporter (?) posted something and all the geeks kept repeating it. WB debunked the rumor, but it’s more fun to ignore WB’s statement. Now Variety has revived the rumor. Again, geeks keep repeating it and we keep clicking. laughing

Following the box office disappointment of “Justice League,” Warner Bros. has been reevaluating its approach to making movies based on DC Comics characters. The studio is not currently moving forward with Batman and Superman movies featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, respectively. It is expected to recast the Dark Knight with a different actor for director Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman solo outing.

https://variety.com/2018/film/news/flash-standalone-movie-release-date-1202980356/

Before it was BA was out. Now it’s BA and HC are out. They keep changing WB’s words for those delicious clicks. Of course the studio is not currently moving forward with any SM film, because currently no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films. laughing

Well, Rienzi trained HC during the filming of MI6. So maybe DG will use the MI6 promo circus to promote Rienzi too.

How do you know Rienzi trained HC during the filming of MI6? I think Rienzi trains him when he's in Florida. He wasn't in Florida during the filming of MI6.

I'll aswer you another time.

Ah crap. Let me answer this here before I forget again.

It was something that Rienzi posted.

Rienzi

Proud of @henrycavill and his @menshealthuk cover. Great job executing on both the diet and training programs during a physically demanding and long MI6 shoot. Good work brother!

Rienzi is talking about diet and training during the MI6 shoot. TC has a gym (The Pain Cave: Only the motivated may enter) on set so everybody can train. I think Rienzi developed a training program for HC to do in The Pain Cave. rofl

Btw, tbh, I thought Rienzi and Gracie were the same place. But ComicBookGuy corrected me by posting these pics (swipe right) on the Social Media thread.

LSH

(Side note: HUGE PROPS to anyone who's cast before. It's basically impossible. There's talent to consider, obviously, but also interest, schedules, budget, negotiation, options, exclusivity, location, dozens of moving pieces to get ONE actor hired. And spoiler, we have hundreds.)

Box Office: The Biggest 2nd-Weekend Drops For Comic Book Superhero Movies

9. Man of Steel (2013)  -67.9%
Opening weekend: $128.6m     Second weekend: $41.2m     Total domestic gross: $291m

Yes, I am counting the film's full opening weekend, including the $12 million worth of Thursday previews that inexplicably were counted separately this time out. This superhero reboot scored the second-biggest debut ever for a non-sequel (behind The Hunger Games) and what at the time was the biggest June debut. But mezzo word-of-mouth and surprisingly robust competition in the form of World War Z ($66m debut) and Monsters University ($82m debut) proved too much for Superman. The film was a hit to be sure ($668m worldwide on a $225m budget), but lukewarm reception led to turning the would-be Man of Steel 2 into what is now Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

5. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) -69.
Opening weekend: $166m     Second weekend: $51.3m     Total domestic gross: $330.3m

The poorly-reviewed DC Films backdoor pilot still assured general audiences that it contained IMAX-friendly spectacle, a big Batman/Superman fight scene and at least a little bit of kick-ass Wonder Woman action. So, the curious joined the hardcore fans for a whopping $81 million opening day and $166m debut weekend. But audiences didn’t like the long, grimdark, violent and hilariously not-kid-friendly superhero sequel any more than critics did, so it sank hard and never recovered. Even with less competition than Man of Steel, it failed to earn even 2x its admittedly massive opening weekend and resulted in the next wave of DC Films being heavily retooled. Never has such a high-grossing film ($873m worldwide) been viewed as a franchise-threatening disaster.

BM, WW and SM grossed $39m (or $30.5m adjusted for inflation) more than a SM. ($205.6 more worldwide or $185.4m adjusted for inflation)

Anyway, Venom dropped only 56.4% the second weekend.

WB’s tentpole releases in summer 2020. rofl

Mark Wahlberg's efforts to bring The Six Billion Dollar Man to the screen have hit another snag, as Warner Bros. has pulled the movie's release date off the 2020 calendar. In May, it was reported that director Damian Szifron had pulled out of the project, leaving the movie without a helmer.

With Warner Bros. shifting around its future schedule, the studio has decided to yank The Six Billion Dollar Man from its originally announced May 31, 2020 release date, as reported by THR. The move comes in conjunction with the announcement that Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to 2017's blockbuster Wonder Woman, has been moved from its previously announced release date of Nov. 1, 2019 to June 5, 2020.

With the removal of The Six Billion Dollar Man from the schedule, Warner Bros.' rundown of tentpole releases in summer 2020 now includes - very tentatively - the long-promised Cyborg standalone film, the recently-acquired former Sony project Barbie now starring Margot Robbie, the MonsterVerse showdown film Godzilla vs. Kong, the aforementioned Wonder Woman 1984, Green Lantern Corps and the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical In the Heights.

Wahlberg did not exactly wow audiences with his last action vehicle Mile 22, which was brutalized by critics and limped to only $36 million domestically. It's possible that WB has lost confidence in Wahlberg's Matt Damon/Tom Cruise-like action-star potential after Mile 22 failed to find an audience.

https://screenrant.com/six-billion-dollar-man-remake-release-date/

They lose confidence in MW after one film, but they keep people like ZS.

Here we go again. rofl

Shazam! Gets Ready For Reshoots, Sparking Fan Hopes For Superman Cameo

The Instagram account of ProdWeekly has just confirmed that Shazam! will be heading back to Toronto, where it originally filmed, for reshoots that are set to last for almost three weeks.

The same post was made on ProdWeekly’s Twitter account, and it didn’t take long for fans of Warner Bros.’ so-called DC Extended Universe to start hoping for a Henry Cavill cameo.

However, these hopes might be for naught. After all, it was widely reported that Henry Cavill had exited the DCEU some time ago, a rumor that only took more credence once it was announced that the actor had signed up to star as the lead of Netflix’s upcoming television adaptation of The Witcher. But then, other reports would state that the news that Cavill was leaving the DCEU was fabricated, and that he was still passionate about the role.

And yet, last we heard, a recent report published by Variety claimed that Warner Bros. was now ready to move on from both Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman. As it stands, we have no clue of the actual status of Henry Cavill’s Superman in the DCEU.

These sources are just guessing. Scheduling conflict, he refused a cameo, he wanted more money, WB changed course, Supergirl has priority. rofl

And it’s not even a good guessing game. What scheduling conflict? rofl

MI6’s wrapped Mar. 25. A cameo in Shazam could have easily been scheduled after that. Btw, HC was done before Mar. 25. Only TC had to stay for the HALO jump.

Shazam’s shooting began Jan. 29 and ended May 11. LSH first met HC in Apr. TW starts shooting in Nov. DG is HC’s manager and she’s one of the exec. producers of Shazam. It’s kinda weird that she can’t get her own client to do a cameo in her film. She also knows HC’s schedule. She won’t let him accept a cameo and then cancel because of scheduling conflict.

Now we have scheduling conflict. TW will start shooting next month and so will the reshoots of Shazam.

The rumors about HC wanting more money for a cameo or refusing a cameo were probably bull crap. WB probably decided last minute to add an SM cameo during Shazam’s reshoots. Probably to please the fans. So talks could have been about HC keeping his SM body and no facial hair so he could fly to Canada for a few days. Or maybe the cameo really fell through, because of scheduling conflict, which would be WB’s fault. They like to make last minute decisions.

Geeks started the SM cameo rumor in February. WB had plenty of time to decide about the cameo. HC could have done it between mid March and mid May, because he didn’t have much going on. I think he had to do a little thing for Nomis and some photoshoots,

They keep making late decisions. They did it with JL (major changes during reshoot) and now with WW84 (rewrites after four months shooting).

As Sue said, actors need studios. As Blue said, WB won’t sugarcoat anything. They might if your name is Tom Cruise. rofl

I think THR knew Shazam’s reshoot will conflict with TW’s, but playing dumb was better. The guessing game was just to dramatize. Look, we’re still talking about it. We wouldn’t be talking about it if we knew Shazam’s reshoot will conflict with TW’s. There’s no reason to speculate and keep looking for news and confirmation. No need to keep clicking. rofl
