I know celebs will do or say anything for a role, just look at all of the celebs who starred in Woody Allen and Polanski films, HC included. I can give a pass to an actor that doesn't have enough credits on their resume to work with a Roman Polaski or Allen, but if they have enough money to pass then they should.
The jokes that I saw Gunn write were only two, and I can see them as jokes. If there were more I would love to see them to make a decision.

When did HC support James Gunn? I haven’t been reading or watching all his interviews. You read or watch one and they all look the same (apart from the GQ one), and the new tactic about taking the dog everywhere (guess he’s trying to really show he needs a support animal).
I do wonder why he would support James Gunn. He is a director for the Marvel Universe movies and he’s firmly in the DC. I also doubt Gunn would be making any movies soon after all the controversy around him, so maybe HC’s show of support means he really sympathises with him?
As for Gunn’s Twitter, I’ve read some of them. Really bad jokes, IMO, not that funny, and I do wonder if he was drunk or high on something when he wrote them. But then again I’ve seen the Book of Mormon and laughed all throughout the show. Some people found the jokes in that show offensive, but I’m a fan of South Park so I could understand the humour.
I personally think that in the case of Gunn, he made those jokes a long time ago. So far there has been no evidence that he actually committed rape or pedophilia, and he has shown remorse for the stuff he wrote, and accepted Disney’s firing him. He didn’t put up a fight, and just accepted it and expressed his remorse. In his case, I also have not heard of any woman coming forward with a sexual harrasment story, but who knows? It seems entrenched in the industry.
I like Gunn’s work though — loved what he did with Guardians of the Galaxy.
