Well, during MOS, he had an accent trainer. For MFU, his first attempt at an accent failed miserably and Guy wasn't happy and said it came off as if he couldn't act. As a result, they switched up to the made up Mid-Atlantic accent.

I don't get it. He was horrendous in that other clip and here not bad at all. His accent, shock horror, sounds good. He's completely miscast though. Giving him that big beard, shaved head 'hard man' look doesn't convince at all. And yes, he's also too young.

From wiki:

Excluding limited exemptions for religious accommodation, the United States Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps have policies that prohibit beards on the basis of hygiene and the necessity of a good seal for chemical weapon protective masks. The official position is that uniform personal appearance and grooming contribute to discipline and a sense of camaraderie.

All branches of the U.S. Military currently prohibit beards for a vast majority of recruits, although some mustaches are still allowed,[21] based on policies that were initiated during the period of World War I.

Good point, Phoebe. I totally forgot that he shouldn't have a beard.

The director is Brazillian. I guess he figures all English-speaking accents are the same and let HC have free reign. Then, he had to go back into the editing room to dub in HC's voice for some reason. So weird to see someone talk with a barely moving mouth.

I can't tell, I don't think his voice was dubbed.

He's actually not as terrible as I thought in it. The film itself is sucking the life out of me, I don't know why Netflix picked it up. I'm an hour in and keep losing focus, it's incredibly boring.

You have to wonder why did HC walk away from Stratton to do this? I've seen about 20 minutes of Stratton, and it's a better film than this.

I have been wondering about the beard. Most of the army people I know are clean shaven and have short hair. I thought, maybe he needed it because he was acting more like a mercenary or was trying to 'blend in' more with the locals.

I am thinking of the marine corpse in Cameron's Aliens -- even in a sci-fi movie set in the future, all the marine corps there didn't have a thick beard, only the sergeant had a moustache, I think, but nowhere near as thick as HC's in this movie.

I've seen about 20 minutes of Stratton,

How? I've been looking into the release of that movie and it comes out in December in the UK. No US release that I know.

And didn't Henry leave stratton because he thought the direction veered away from military grit and more into standard action film territory? Maybe that's why he signed up for this. That and he probably needed the work.

I don't think he's dubbed though, it's the big ole beard covering his mouth.

That and he probably needed the work.

Yep, pretty much why he accepted this rubbish.

I move in mysterious ways. You can email me if you want the link.

That was the official word but not the real one.

He needed the work.

Just finished the film and honestly it wasn't that bad. Definitely subdued (action started in the second half) but I guess that was intentional. Henry was fine for what he was given. Still annoyed me how he sounded sometimes but whatever. Nicholas Hoult and the guy playing the team leader were definitely the standouts tho.

Yeah, it seemed that way from the first trailer.

Here is a statement on HC's role in Nomis.
