Why did Xtina's career last longer than Britney's?

Britney's career lasted 1998-2011, while Xtina's lasted from 1999-2014 at least. She hasn't released anything since her smash Say Something, so it's hard to say if she's still able to smash as hard as she did in 2014, but I'm wondering why she managed to outlast her big competitor?
Britney's last hit was forever ago, while Xtina has had numerous hits like Moves Like Jagger, Feel This Moment and Say Something since.
Remember when Britney fans said Xtina was over? It's quite ironic, actually.
