Just like in Brokeback Mountain, we have two gay men, neither of which gives off the slightest vibe of being gay. They are just regular dude bros who fuck each other. Because...you know, we wouldn't want to stereotype would we?
It's fucking ridiculous. I don't know why TV and film seems to need to portray gay men in this way. Gay men are faggy, and that's OK. It's like the people who make these films believe deep down that there is something wrong with being an effiminate man.

Do you understand the concept of an actor?

Let's just pretend this is true, for the sake of argument. It still means they do act that way. I don't think I've ever met a gay man that I didn't already know was gay before he told me. Why do films that portray gay men unrealistically win oscars? What does this say?

What an obnoxious, ignorant assumption. Not all gay men are "queens" nor all lesbians "butch." They are all individuals like the rest of us. In fact, I think that as time wears on and homosexuality becomes more accepted, the pressure to behave a certain way to broadcast your orientation will diminish. Even in the gay community, there are many that don't care for effeminate or masculine partners.
I worked with a gay man that was every bit as masculine as I am, and so was his partner. Very cool guys, both of them, who didn't fall into your stereotypical view of what a gay man should behave like.
Pull your head out and recognize that a lot of what you're conditioned to believe has been fed to you through media which, until the past few decades at least, treated homosexuals as deviants or, at best, as cartoonish, oversexed comic relief.

Did you even read the title of this thread? What you are saying is the exact opposite of reality. I've known gay men who absolutely did not want to broadcast their sexuality, and it was obvious anyway.
I can't disprove your anecdote. I know for a fact that the vast majority of gay men are effiminate.

Well, it's clear that we've never encountered the same gay people.

I don't know why you people have a pathological inability to aknowledge that gay men act gay. It's as if you all think there is something wrong with being an effiminate man. I can't think of any other reason why you'd have a problem with me saying that gay men act gay. It's not a bad thing.

oooooooooooooooooooh I get it you're a trolllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
See here's the thing: scientifically it has been suggested that gay men have similar levels of gray/white matter as heterosexual women. but not all gay men are flaming faggots. Some are more, some are less - some are hyper-masculine.
Also gay men do not like the same type of men. Some are effeminate and like effeminate men. Some are hyper-male and like hyper-male. And then there are a million different combos of those (yes, you can actually make a million different combinations of those - jk).
There's no way around that @A to Z

Yeah, no one said all gay men are flaming faggots. I said virtually none are like the gay men in this film or in Brokeback Mountain.
Why is it that both those Oscar Winning films depict gay men as not being like gay men?

A massive amount of gay males are not effeminate. It's definitely stereotyping to suggest that if a gay male isn't portrayed as "all faggy" that they're not being accurately depicted. I've had friends and co-workers who I never whatsoever realized they were gay until it eventually became evident they had a boyfriend or were dating males. Otherwise, I'd never, ever have guessed they were gay. And, yep: Gay males can be into sports, racing, etc., etc.

I get what you're saying. I work with a lot of gay people and from what you're saying, a bunch of them must be actors.

About 1% of the population is gay. Exactly how many people do you work with, and how much is "a lot"?

I don't know what percentage; that's neither the point nor at all relevant. Realize that all gay males who you've ever known or thought to be gay is because they were/are whatever extent of "obviously" so, so were therefore at least a little bit detectable. But there's a heck of a lot of gay males who are not "obvious". So, naturally, you (anyone out here in the everyday world) just assume they're straight, and it hasn't ever occurred to you that they're not. That doesn't mean, though, that they are straight.
What I'm saying is that you have based your conclusion on the basis of what you've personally determined to be fact based on who you were able to get a gaydar reading on. But if you don't get a gaydar reading on someone, that means they're not gay? None of us know who, of all our family members, friends, and acquaintances, are definitely straight and definitely gay. We just know what we think we know about them.
Sheesh: 1% of the population gay? Where did you get that statistic? I do hope you realize the % is much higher than that in reality.

I've lived in 3 different countries and many different cities. I have a lot of life experience. But somehow all of these masculine homosexual men have eluded me, yet you presumably work with "lots of" masculine gay men too?
Gay men are effiminate, and I like them that way. I think it says something about the people in this thread that you are unable to aknowledge the obvious truth of what I'm saying.
Oh...sheeeesh. It's actually 2% for men and 1% for women. So much higher yes.
