Omg, there was a story in the huffington post the other day, that went through the procedure to make sure that the right winner always gets the Oscar.

Totally agree 100% with your viewpoint and commentary. I also feel they wanted to give Moonlight credit because of a political perspective.

Well, there are many different ways PR companies push for their Films these days.

I personally would have preferred La La Land winning Best Picture, as I enjoyed it more than Moonlight, despite Moonlight being a great film too. But can't the split for Best Direction/Best Picture be down to those who vote in those categories? Unless something has changed in the last year, the Best Director category is still only voted for by directors who are part of the Academy. Taking that into account, it makes sense to me that fellow directors may have appreciated Chazelle's work over Barry Jenkins.

In my mind, Moonlight should've taken home 4 (one more than before) and LLL 8. More on this later.
I can somewhat agree with you. I feel like La La Land and Moonlight are equals. Both have depth both visually and emotionally, but their purposes are different. It is unfair to compare them. They both have their fair share of both symbolism, and other subliminal messages, all that point to the story. This type of detail is miraculous.
I actually LOVE the diversity in the Oscars this year, and is glad that so many amazing movies were to win.
There would be backlash if any of these films one. People can hate on anything.
Here is how the Oscars should've went (IMO)
Arrival should've won best adapted screenplay over Moonlight, the performances made the movie special with its phenomenal script. Mel Gibson shouldn't have been forgiven too quickly and the sound mixing and the film editing should've been given to La La Land, as well as Costume Design (there is a good article on how they were made to reflect the characters, exemplifying the detail put into this film) Moonlight should've taken cinematography and Supporting Actress. Also, Amy Adams should've taken Meryl's for best actress, (but Emma Stone still win) the latter was only nominated to beat her own record. Actor should've been Denzel.
Then, the Oscars would turn out like this: (remember this is just my opinion)
THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE BEST PICTURE/DIRECTOR.
La La Land - 7 wins Actress, Score, Song, Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design, and Costume) Moonlight - 3 wins (Cinematography, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor) Arrival - 2 wins (Sound Editing, Adapted Screenplay) Manchester by the Sea - 1 win (Original Screenplay) Fences - 1 win (Best Actor) Hacksaw Ridge - 0 wins.
I WILL NOT GIVE OUT MY OPINION ON BEST PICTURE/DIRECTOR. THE OSCARS SHOULD BE LIKE THE GOLDEN GLOBES: comedy / musical and drama for the former, and for the latter, if either Barry Jenkins or Damien Chazelle were to win I would be happy.

When it comes to nominating, then yes only Directors can nominate Directors. But once nominees have been established, a film editor can vote for director.

Major f-up or not, it was probably the most gracious thing i've seen in a while and I did feel sorry for La La Land. But yeah the right movie got it in the end.

This was the first year in about 30 years that I didn't watch. I feel like I didn't miss anything. I wasn't in the mood to hear anything political--I don't mind opinions, even differing ones, but I watch awards shows to see celebs and the gowns etc. I have a feeling things won't be any better next year either.

Agree 100% Sassy. Not only that, a major emphasis for award selection is now based on political correctness, and making sure not to overly offend people.
I will not watch the Awards anymore.
