Omg, there was a story in the huffington post the other day, that went through the procedure to make sure that the right winner always gets the Oscar.

It's the most bizarre thing. The story was about when Marissa Tomei won and a lot of people still believe that she didn't win, and the person read the wrong name. The story states that there is a person from Price Waterhouse Cooper on each side of the stage and they know the winners list by heart. If anyone reads the wrong list, they know immediately and inform a producer standing with them. And it is corrected within minutes. It's crazy that Huffington post has a story about the event of something happening and then it actually happens!!!

As soon as all those headset guys started milling around the stage it was clear something went wrong. All I can guess is someone gave Warren Beatty the wrong envelope. Poor Jimmy Kimmel didn't even try to explain it, just said "screw this I'm outta here goodnight".

I feel bad for everyone from La La Land who thought they won and had the victory snatched from them in that way. But congrats to everyone from Moonlight! LOL

I guess nobody has to feel sorry for La La Land. Best director and female lead and a few others... they do well ;)

The La La Land guy who said "We lost, by the way" seemed pissed off.
I feel bad for everyone involved: the La La Land peeps who had already started their victory speeches, Warren Beatty because everyone's going to blame him forever even though it was probably an honest mistake, and even the actual winners. Yes, Moonlight won Best Picture, but the win feels overshadowed by all this envelope drama.

so the best picture goes to the producers and not the director?

I agree, but I liked how Jordan Horowitz gave back the award as soon as he knew, and he seemed happy for them

I feel sorry because this was the best picture and should have won.

Major f-ckup that should never happen. I feel very bad for the La La Land guys at the end. That one guy seemed pissed but remained very calm. I would probably have cursed like a sailor and messed it up for everyone. I'd like to know what happened to the guy who messed that up. xD
However, what pisses me off more than the big f-up that happened, is the fact that they AGAIN went with a best picture / best director split which is straight up bs.
I'm seriously thinking about whether to watch this travesty of an award show again next year. "Although we got La La Land winning in most every category including best direction, we need to give best picture to "Moonlight" so we make up for #oscarssowhite and make sure everybody gets an award and can go home happy". F-ck that! It's a ceremony to honor the best movie that came out that year, not for compromising and sending everyone home happy. Before anyone attacks me for saying this: Yes, I think "Moonlight" is overrated, however I do not think it is a bad film. But I felt the same way when they did the split decision with "Spotlight" and "The Revenant" (also basically every other time they did that). Which is why I thought, nah, they won't pull that sh-t again. But of course, they did.
I also tend to think that the foreign film decision was also a political one as the critics were not that keen on "The Salesman". Many called it Farhadi's weakest movie. But as an FU to Donald Trump, they give it the award. Again, don't get me wrong, I like Farhadi very much. But this was not exactly "A Separation" and I think "Toni Erdmann" would have deserved this one.
Well in the end what can I say, I know I'll be watching again next year. But the Academy Awards, to me, is the least important awards show from now on.
Really a shame, as I thought the show was quite alright with Jimmy Kimmel doing a good job. The ending was the worst ever.

I thought Jimmy did great. I've never been a huge fan of his, but he really surprised me. He was confident, looked great, and diffused the tension at the end very well I thought.
