Discuss War for the Planet of the Apes

self-important snoozefest and should not be called War for the Planet of the Apes since there is absolutely no war. Don't let the marketing fool you, there's no epic battles, just two hours of brooding and some action in the last ten minutes. With that said, if you want to watch a grim social issue drama than you should absolutely go see this movie

Were you expecting a planet of the Apes film to be a flat out action film? Should have gone to see Transformers instead.

Personally I loved this new Apes film. It was an intelligent film and a perfect allegory for war and it's victims.

THIS!!! I saw people complaining about the lack of action before watching it and this was one time where it didn't bother me. I was too invested into drama aspect. Caesar's character growth was amazing to watch. The apes were amazing to watch. I didn't really care too much about the humans.

The Human soldiers are pretty much the villains in this, of course you wouldn't care for them.

I agree, it was too long, and I became so distracted that I was on my facebook (don't worry, empty theatre).

Way too much reading also. I hate reading in movies.

Couldn't believe how boring and lame it was.

First 20 minutes are alright, then it gets worse and worse. ...and it's 2h 20 min long!

CGI is great, but that's it. In my cinema, the seats had a rumble function. It stood still for the entire middle.

The ending is unbelievably stupid too, but lets keep it spoiler free.

Stay clear, it's a stinker!

Agreed. The CGI is great, just like some of the performances, but this movie has zero entertainment value and too many convenient plot devices. Harrelson's villain was terrible, poorly developed and no match for Koba. I couldn't care less about the metaphors, symbols and shit, I can't be bothered to watch slow takes between cg apes for 2 and half hours. Sorry attempt to follow up Dawn and Rise.

Yeah, Dawn and Rise were fine, maybe even better, really enjoyed them.

Harrelson/villain indeed without a single redeeming angle. Awful. The biblical/concentration camp/MESSAGE stuff... :( ...the very first monkeyfuhgin word in the title is WAR. Come on, fellas. Felt more like a sequel to War Of The Roses.

...aaaaaaand time for another too long close-up shot of monkey face.

...and this bastard of a movie checked all the fee-boxes: 3D, all night duration, premiere night = tickets costed absolute maximum.

Don't get me started on Bad Ape...

Good thing my mate hated it too, so we could enjoy ourselves taking jabs at this really poor movie.

None of the Apes films were flat out action films. But this movie had its exciting moments to go along with the humor and drama. Excellent, story and character driven film, IMO.

Nothing to cause your seat to rumble? What's the point then? Geez.

hahahha on point. my bf hated it too, wanted to leave somwhere in the middle of the movie, but I just had to see what happens with Caesar. Jar Jar Ape felt so out of the place and was unbelieveably annoying. I guess we watched a different movie from all the people coming on this thread telling us this was a masterpiece lmao

The movie was just one inconsistent scene after the other. Just watch it at home because it isn't worth the asking price.

Nope. Expected it not to be a bore wink Oh and I forgot to mention that the Jar Jar Ape was ridiculous

Oh you mean Bad Ape, he was actually funny, definitely my favourite character in the whole film. grinning

I remember a while back reading an article saying that Steve Zahn's performance as Bad Ape made Matt Reeves cry.

Agree. It's ridiculously long...and it's boring, even pretentious at times. On a bright note, the final 20 minutes and end were good.

For me this one felt a lot more emotional and I thought the story was very good but I guess you can't please everyone.

"This movie wasn't full of explosions and action, and it had too much focus on the story and characters, ugh, terrible!"

Okay then.

LMAO! That explains a lot.

And he interrupted me while I was watching "OW! My Balls!" and that is NOT cool!

I like action like the next (dummied-down) male, but does every movie have to be CGI-ruled action fest? This movie was a great drama, even though it lacked some common-sense consistencies.
