Discuss Quantum of Solace

Is this universally considered the worst ever Bond film? I'd certainly say so but maybe not everyone would go along with that...

To expand slightly what do you think the bottom three (official) Bonds would be?

I'd say:-

  1. Quantum Of Solace
  2. Licence To Kill
  3. The World Is Not Enough

I thought Quantum Of Solace was great!

As for my bottom 3 Bond movies:

Diamonds Are Forever, The Man With The Golden Gun, and Die Another Day.

The first Pierce Brosnan James Bond film literally put me to sleep. As in snoring away in the theater. I forget the title and I can't be bothered to go look it up, but it should definitely be put into the running for worst Bond film (at least for me).

And so, after being a big fan of the franchise, I gave it up and stopped watching. I knew Daniel Craig took over. I was aware of that, but not particularly interested.

Then I got married. My wife was apparently a huge Daniel Craig fan so she dragged me to see Quantum of Solace. The opening car chase scene was mesmerizing. Intense. Well shot and choreographed. It had lots of quick cuts that kept up the pace. And it had a really cool punch line. I was hooked again.

It contained lots of similarly well paced action sequences. It did have references to the previous movie (which I did not watch) and the ending was a bit of a damp squib, but I was, overall, impressed enough to start watching Bond again.

I understand that it did have weaknesses, but I could never place it below the Pierce Brosnan era.

Oh, and RIP to Strawberry Fields. I loved her character.

Your wife dragging you to the cinema to watch what she could've had instead of you is a bit harsh.

We drag each other to the cinema all the time. Usually, but not always, we end up both enjoying the movie. And one of us will have a moviegoing experience that otherwise would not have happened without prodding by the other.

It's one thing I miss from the pre-Coronavirus days.

I realize not everyone will share parts of their personal lives here, but I'm curious as to what you would do if your honey wanted to go to a movie that you did not. Would you just let her go alone or with some of her friends? Or put your foot down and do your best to prevent her from seeing it at all? I prefer to share the experience with her. To me, that doesn't seem harsh at all, but diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks....

I personally didn't like a Bond film until Dalton took over, maybe because I was a girl & really thought they were just too goofy? I thought Brosnan was ordinary, nothing special.

I like the Craig films, I would list them in this order:

Casino Royale 10/10

Skyfall 9/10

Spectre 8/10

Quantum of Solace 6.5/10

I would say If Looks Could Kill is definitely bottom-tier James Bond
