I don't understand the plaudits for this series. There wasn't one original idea in it. Two brothers - one a cop - one a yakuza. How often has that been done with friends growing up together and taking different paths in life only to collide at the end? The Yakuza families at war - again - how often has this been portrayed in one way or another. The borrowings from "Kill Bill" "Snatch" "River" made this series just a pastiche of styles - couldn't the writers develop their own style? Evidently not - although they might have thought they did with the comedic interlude of Granny and Wife escaping from a Yakuza safe house and rescuing Yuto's woman and baby before waiting for the Yakuza to turn up so as they could fight them with frying pans - Oh - my shoulders heaved with that one. The needless gay sub plot - because lets face it that was only there to include explicit gay sex scenes which are so fashionable today - Rodney contributed little or nothing to the plot besides his junkie promiscuity. And Taki the disobedient child who claimed it wasn't her fault she wasn't there when her Grandfather died - well actually it was dear - you were the one who stole your mother's credit card and took off for London - what sense did that dialogue make? And last but not least - the modern ballet at the end - well - how hilarious was that? It was so embarrassingly bad. They left it open to a second series of course - I for one will bow out now.

Devs was an FX/Hulu collaboration.

I see. That makes sense because we don't get Hulu over here so their shows tend to get picked up by our terrestrial channels like BBC and Channel 4.

Which of the main streaming channels do you get?

We get Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Apple tv. We also get some smaller niche ones like Shudder but it sounds like the US has loads of big streaming services with HBO Max just starting and that other new one Peacock which made Brave New World. I'm surprised they can all survive. That's gotta be one crowded market.

We have over 200 channels available to stream. Peacock is just an NBC (one of the big 3) rebranding like Paramount is really CBS. I personally only pay for one (Hulu) which I got a good deal on a year ago ($1.99 a month for a year, when the year was up it went to $5.99) because I wanted to catch up & finish watching Vikings. It also has some good movies, older TV series & Coronation Street.

That is one hell of a lot of channels.

I personally don't have that many, I have downloaded a bunch to my TV but don't watch most of them on a regular basis. I do not have cable & other than Hulu watch most TV OTA.
