( Kim ll Sung committed brutal mass-murder, led North Korea and started the entire Korean War. He was never mentioned on Mash!)
Somebody noticed ( at jumptheshark.com) how odd it was that Henry's plane was shot down over the sea of Japan.
Come to think of it. What shot it down?A North Korean battle cruiser patrolling off the coast of South Korea?A North Korean (confiscated from the enemy) jet?

Off Topic, but, still on-ish...
Such a thing would "Break the Internet" today!

Anything is possible. If you look at a map of the area, Henry was probably on a 'cargo' plane hitching a ride from Korea to Tokyo, where he would have flown home to the US.

In real life a Lt. Col. would have very organized transportation to get back home.

Yes, but, his "very organized transportation" could have meant waiting days, or even a couple of weeks. Hitching a ride on the-first-thing-smoking--in order to get home sooner--yeah, I could see that.

In real life no way. There were flights going in and out of South Korea all the time by the US and allied military it was very advanced.
Look. Why is something starting on here about using something like unofficial flights to get out of South Korea? The most I will possibly bend to to this thought is to say like a British or Canadian military plane to fly out and over and back to the states with a special US base authorized landing as itinerary.
Back to the show. The writers clearly wanted us to think Henry was on an official, American military plane over the SOJ heading back to the states. Not almost some second-rate airborne garbage scow!

Now back to the original point. The SOJ was a rather unusual place to get shot down. It could be that Henry's plane ran into bad weather and was struck by lightning or just hit by high winds that crashed it. It was entirely possible there was no shooting at all. But they decided to turn Blake's accidental plane crash into a military destruction-casualty disaster. This seems far likelier than an actual shooting by war-starting North Koreans as SOJ is a very peculiar location to be shot down. My kudos go out to the jumptheshark poster who pointed all this out!
