( Kim ll Sung was a North Korean leader and mass-murderer who started the whole Korean War. He was never mentioned on Mash!)
When he was sent home ( more like just stateside as in this title) at start of the sixth season he was made head of a military hospital in America. There was no mention of him returning to his very successful civilian practice in Indiana or his wife. ( Like Hawk in the show's entire first three years--Frank's family was not well-established-- did he actually have any kids?) Did his wife join him in his new job. Frank was seemingly still in the Army when he gets this position? Yes? If so how long would he feasibly be at this position? Would he ever return to his civ practice? Did his wife join him ever again? Not well explained! And there was an over-correlation in this show with going stateside and becoming a civilian again.
An analogy. By the time Larry Linville departed the show Mash was only 50 percent realistic. It started less--far less so. So therefore it was OK that they did not very realistically explain Frank's exit from the 4077th. By the show's final eps the show would be 75 percent realistic. They were into being less contrived than they had been in the show's early years. Though they still did not much look like they were in the 1950s. And it was too late as the show already had been immensely unrealistic in early days.
The rest of the analogy. Ho Chi Minh ( of North Vietnam) was possibly not that into not committing civilian mass-murder in his last nine years of running NV 1960-69). He may only have killed civilians in the single digits of hundreds each year in that decade. However, the early to mid-50's he slaughtered many thousands of landlords and just landowners in his brutal land reform. Plus, civilians who protested the slaughter! Numbering at least 20 thousand in two or three years. If some sneaky pro-communist literature passed around in the 60s in the USA on Ho may have said of course he kills some civilians. Every communist leader of a country does. But that it was only in the single digits of tens every year. Leaving out his brutal mass-murdering slaughter between like '53 and '56. And it was also too late as his regime had been immensely slaughtering in early days!
PS Frank's kids may have been just his wife's from a short previous marriage she had. Or they may have been her relatives who went parentless and the Burns couple adopted them.
