They all came from a world filled with anachronisms ( Godzilla movies for just one example among many). It was impossible to imagine what the world, that any of the doctors, nurses, etc we saw, was like before arriving at the 4077th or at least meeting the 4077th personnel in, say, Japan.

However, the show did have one fourth season ep that had much real life documentary footage throughout. Some of it of Gen. MacArthur and President Harry Truman. This and other later eps partially like it forced you to feel that the show was somewhat authentic to the 1950s despite, say, a third season ep where Hawk and Trap go to Tokyo and 1970s cars can be seen.
