Discussão Star Trek: Picard

and how are they different from any AI, like the Doctor?

How come Elnor could knock them out? Aren't they supposed to be as solid and strong as Data?

WHY did ELNOR punch them??? Did he assume they were more ADVERTISEMENTS like POPPED up in the ship when they went to FREECLOUD??

Elnor, Rios and Ruffi went back to synth town with Narek as "prisoner" (Narek joined them previously). Their goal was to destroy the machine and prevent communication with tentacle-synths. During the action scene Narek jumped down from a bridge or something, can't remember, Rios took out a hand-grenade type explosive device which he smuggled in inside his soccer ball and Elnor started punching synths.

HOW do we know SOJI can also be SHUT DOWN??

Touche.

Thanks again for letting us know we don't see her being SHUT DOWN, but SQUIRTING GREEN ACID at her and/or BLOWING her UP like the case was with DAHJ would be just as effective if one wanted to STOP what she's doing for some reason.

I should add, Soji fell asleep during her phone/video calls with her "mom" at exactly the same second (70 seconds IIRC). Narek told Soji that, meaning they were secretly watching her during the scenes in the artifact.

Apparently they can do to her whatever they want.

... a SIMULATION that was created as a way for PICARD to DEAL with the GUILT he felt over DATA having SACRIFICED himself as a way to SAVE the LIFE of PICARD???

What guilt? Picard didn't order Data to sacrifice himself, Data went on that ship (in Nemesis) by his own decision (he "flew" over with the help of Geordi, remember). Sadness because of the loss of a friend? Yes. Guilt? No.

(During the simulation scene in PIC, Picard saying "I couldn't tell you how much I..." and Data "..love me?". bohoo sniff. Seriously, that's the shit they can came up with?)

So you won't be watching S2 then???

Don't know. Don't care actually about season 2.

I agree about how AGGIE and RIOS are mismatched. And it also makes no sense that 7 would prefer a FEMALE when she previously only dated and showed an interest in MALES like HARRY and CHACOTAY.

Only Chakotay. Poor Harry, he never got a promotion.

... because they're also MAKING IT ALL UP as they go.

There you go.

.. the TRANSPORTER and the REPLICATOR definitely fit more into the FANTASY CATEGORY ..

At least they have a somewhat theoretical explanation. The Force on the other hand..

And that process might also lead to the DISCOVERY that we're some kind of SIMULATIONS that have been created by someone else???

Maybe by Some kind of other GIANT RACE of BEINGS???

But who created those giant beings? What's behind that wall at the edge of the universe? Back at square one.

... it's important for us to QUESTION whether or not we might be SIMULATIONS created by something else:

I think it's important to never stop asking questions, regardless of what we might find out.

In any event, just having large quantities of dilithium - and there is some evidence that it can't be replicated, for whatever reason, otherwise it wouldn't still need to be mined and transported by ship in the 24th century - is not a power source. No matter how it may be getting retconned in various trash shows.

True. My point is, if they can create the amount of energy the transporter or the warp drive needs, they certainly don't have any energy shortages, in other words, they have as much energy as they need. Hence, no wars, no poverty, etc.

Star Trek Prometheus?

First half of that movie was great Star Trek.

So one could also consider some kind of FORCE to be in control of things happening in DS9???

I don't remember much of DS9. Only that it's boring.

There's another REALLY GOOD film called THE THIRTEEN FLOOR where characters in the 1990's create LOOK a LIKE SIMULATIONS of themselves that inhabit a 1930's WORLD. Then the 90's characters DISCOVERD that they themselves were also SIMULATIONS that had been CREATED by other characters from 2024 (just 4 more years from now).

Have you ever seen it???

No, not yet.

Well, that's actually what they do say on Trek, at least about Earth. And I suppose the developed colony worlds. But the Klingons, Romulans, and others don't seem to have the same attitude.

Also, I don't think we've seen any evidence that Earth uses matter-antimatter power for the lights etc. And it could very well be, since TNG and others mention fusion power on a regular basis, that matter-antimatter is only used on starships, for various reasons. Including that, if a starship explodes, only the starship explodes. But remember what happened on the Blood-Eating-Cloud-Creature's planet? Just ONE OUNCE of antimatter ripped away half the planet's atmosphere. Who would want to risk that on Earth? Fusion power is ultimately a kind of fail-safe, since if containment fails the reaction stops. But antimatter doesn't just go away if containment fails.

Agreed. Matter-antimatter reactors for powering the infrastructure might be overkill. In theory, at least, we could power the planet with renewable energy alone today. I'm sure they have it figured out by then.

Must be TOS? Have yet to finish the final season. Matter-antimatter explosions can at least be explained by science. Magical red matter on the other hand..

That episode, "Obsession," is about halfway through season 2.

They are copied literally from an internet add.
