Discuss Gonul

OK, from all I could read about this, I don't see more than 38 episodes mentioned. IMDB only shows 13 episodes, so it must not be up to date.

Yep, they are all just like Bunboy at the end of the day. Friends until it comes to sacrificing you to save themselves, then you see how little you really matter to them.

I am starting Ep 24 now. Ali has told Nese about Tekin and Gonfool and she has gone to the salon and had her hair washed - she is now in conflict over her loyalties and sense of morality. She knows that Gonfool is pregnant - she is having more pain - I can't see her having this baby regardless of the nursery Tekin is planning for her. Yustuf has beaten up Tekin. The Yustuf gang have gone to find Vermina but find Vermama instead - she has now thrown off her headscarf and long dress and is tossing her hair about and dressing in glamorous dresses and flirting with the guys. Yustufs Dad has threatened Vermina. Gongirl is looking after that kid who has now retrieved his tongue from the cat and told her that he wants to stay ill so as "they" wont take stuff out of him - one imagines that means another storyline is in the offing regarding illegal organ trafficking. Do you suppose that's what happened to Gonfool - did someone illegally traffic her brain? !!

That's the best theory I've heard so far.

Vermama never misses a chance to put down Vermina's staff and tells Vermina that Yusuf and his guys were REAL men, especially the one with the dreamy eyes, and so on. If Vermama could figure a way to adopt Gonul she would switch sides and kick Vermina to the curb so fast your head would spin.

When Tekin puts on his sweet, not so bright, loving drug salesman persona he sort of reminds me of Andy Kaufman who used to be on Saturday Night Live years ago. You probably have no idea who I mean.

Nese is a better person than I gave her credit for being at first. And yes, she is torn between loving her brother despite his glaring faults, hating him for what he does but wanting to protect him nonetheless, and telling Hilmi what she knows. It is a real dilemma for her. I am thinking she will struggle with this for a while but ultimately decide she must do the right thing. We shall see.

I suspect there is an organ trafficking ring involving the kids going on. I wonder who will wind up busting that ring.

I think she will have the baby. It is Yusuf's after all, and the story would suck if she got her memory back and realized she got rid of their love child.

The spectre of Yusuf's father lurking in the background may make Vermina think twice before thinking about using those photographs to go after the Yusuf gang.

update:

At some point, someone should get their hands on some of the pills Tekin is giving gon-blank and have them analyzed. Maybe she will go to the hospital with some of the pills in her purse and they will check them and find out they are keeping her from remembering. When she finds out he is giving her 'stupid pills' the proverbial crap will hit the fan. Ideally that revelation will be part of a perfect storm of information which begins to destroy what is left of her belief in Tekin's lies.

Maybe she will get curious and go to the county clerk and ask for her marriage records, and find out there are no records for her, that nobody by her name was ever born even. Tekin would try to squirm out of that somehow, probably claiming that there was a fire which destroyed the records, and that the minister who performed the ceremony had died (in a freak accident, falling from a balcony perhaps), and that all the relatives who attended as witnesses died together in a bus crash after leaving the wedding, etc. etc. GoneAreMyBrains might frown, and doubt, but ultimately accept his explanation for all of that.

Someone will happen to show her some of the old society newspaper articles and photos of her and Tekin, and Tekin will explain that they are just doppelgangers, or perhaps two sets of identical twins, both separated at birth. And she may think, well, anything is possible.

Then maybe Ali tells her he isn't a drug rep, that his name is Tekin and he is a doctor, and her suspicions will begin to rise a bit again. But Tekin would tell her, oh that Mete, he is such a joker.

But when she learns about the pills, she will yell AHA! I KNEW I couldn't really be that stupid on my own. (And all her friends will look at each other, and say "Ummm....yeah, sure. Let's say it's the pills.")

And Tekin will get angry and tell her she has made him tired again by doubting him, believing all the facts instead of his stories. But it won't work this time because....hell, why wouldn't it work again? She really isn't very smart.

Another update: Ozmel just had another "it's not fair" fit, telling Yusuf "I saw you first! I fell in love with you first! You should love me! Gonul isn't even here and you still love her?!"

It really is bizarre to hear someone say that stuff.

Yusuf tells her "Ozmel, don't do this. Don't do this to yourself. Get out there and meet people, there are a lot of guys would love you. Give them a chance."

And Ozmel replies "Why didn't you give me a chance? I waited for you with high hopes. You married Betel and she left when you went to prison, but I waited. Why didn't you love me? You kept your love away from me and gave it to Gonul." etc. etc. etc.

Yusuf is very understanding and kind to her, yet firm and unflinching in his honesty that he doesn't love her. He tells her he is giving her the truth so she doesn't get hurt worse.

I would do the same. But when watching this on TV I find myself making unkind comments and rejoinders.

You - making unkind comments and rejoinders? Never!! It's just your sense of fun!! I don't even know what episode I am on now - 27 or 28 maybe. Yusuf has finally found Gontosleep and taken her home and lost her again - but at least he knows where she lives. He is keeping an eye on her. He has found out that the child is his - so yes - there will be no miscarriage now (if that kid grows up and creates drawings like his first boy did she might want to rethink that). They finally found out that they buried bunboy with his phone but when they go to get it the body is gone - we find out what happened when Tekin visits Vermina and Vermama with a pot which Vermama for some reason opens and empties the dust all over the floor - the bun has been in the oven it seems. So those photos of them with bunboy have lost a bit of their edge then because his body is no longer available to prove anything - they could say they realised that he was still alive and took him for treatment from which he recovered and has now left the area. Besides which wouldn't the police ask who took those photographs and why didn't they intervene and report what was happening immediately. Gonblank absolutely refuses to remember anything or anyone - even Mother Hatike - who really should wear her hair up. Nese has confronted Tekin but apart from a few sarky remarks to Selma does nothing else. Tekin beats up Ali who doesn't fight back like the worthless wimp he is. Did we have to have the scene of Vermama getting dolled up? She is a terrible actress and came over like a drag queen. Ozmel - she turns out to be a secret psychopath - who knew? It must be the ginger hair. She is obviously going to go to great lengths to get Yusuf's attention - I don't know why women like this bother - if a guy makes it plain he isn't interested in you then move on - it's degrading to do anything else. Women degrading themselves brings to mind a comment made by a black woman on Judge Judy - some older guy had given her lots of money in expectation of marriage but of course she had taken the money and run - her response at the end of the show - "He thought he could buy my love - but you can't buy love - you can only rent it". She thought she was being so clever - she had no idea what she just said - ie I am a prostitute. I am not sure about Selma and her portrait of God knows who. I think she may be somebody's mother rather than sister.

No, Selma is the sister. Mete will show up eventually and Selma tears the paper away to show the three of them in the picture ilKnur, Selma, and Mete. Selma is there to investigate her sister's death. She never believed she committed suicide especially since she had only just spoken with her on the phone and she was in high spirits. She is trying to get the dirt on Tekin.

That black woman on Judge Judy may be one of those women so devoid of morals that she accepts prostitution as nothing unusual or anything to be ashamed of. Things have really gotten that bad in some segments of society here.

There is something extremely childish about Ozmel, and it is very closely related to Tekin's malfunction. Both are focused on what they want, and they equate their strong desires for affection with love, but their concept of love doesn't include acceptance of what the other party wants or feels. It's a self centered concept. It is a very needy kind of emotional state.

Yusuf is going to find a way to meet with Gonul, by accident at first. In fact he sort of kidnaps her when she is unconscious and it freaks her out, naturally. But the next time he arranges to see her he plans it well, and it starts to have an effect on her. I just saw that last episode, 29 I think. She takes a holiday away alone, and he is there also.

I will stop with the spoilers now. You're almost right up with me now.

2- I am making a few notes on episode 31. A lot of things start happening now. I will wait and post them later on after you have seen more.

I was thinking about Tekin and ilknur. I think Tekin may have been roughly handling her, the way he does with women who anger him, and maybe he shoved her or she pulled away from him, something like that, and then she went over the railing and fell to her death. I can easily see that happening. It is also possible that he could kill her if he thought she was going to poison Gonul's mind against him; he is that obsessed with Gonul and he threatened to kill the girl for talking to her. If ilknur decided to defiantly tell Tekin she would tell Gonul all about him Tekin could have lost his temper and pushed her intentionally, but it seems somewhat more likely that he didn't plan it, it just happened during one of his intense rages.

31 through 36

episode 31 Mahmut is a moron. He knows the cops are after him for murder and are coming to that location, but he waits there because his girlfriend called and he wants to talk to her. Has he never heard of talking and walking at the same time? He has that happy grin on his face while he stands there talking to her. Meanwhile the cops pull up in front. Idiot.

Vermin got tired of the way Tekin is doing things and hired a killer to get rid of Gonul, but Hilmi's spy told him about it. Yusuf threatened Vermin and she sent the photos to the cops. Yusuf called his dad to have the killer found and stopped.

Hilmi and the gang are on the run, hiding from the cops. Gonul went looking for Yusuf, and after her run in with Ozmel, Yusuf caught up with her and they went to a country farmhouse to talk. Yusuf promised to tell her the truth. Meanwhile Nese found Hilmi and he warned her to call Tekin and warn him about the killer sent after Gonul. He would also kill Tekin if he were there when he found Gonul, so he is also in danger. In fact Vermin might have told him to kill Tekin as well. Tekin puts it all together after learning that Hitake has been to the hair salon: everyone knows everything. His reaction is typical. He says "so she went to him, Yusuf. After everything I've done for her." Unbelievable. He kidnapped her, drugged her, lied to her, conspired to cheat her out of her inheritance in a bid to force her to live with him. And he is seething with anger because she is ungrateful. I am sorry, but someone as sick in the head as that really needs to be dead. Barring that, he should be punched in the mouth every time he speaks. Every time, bam, right in the mouth. Because he never speaks without lying, manipulating, shifting blame, etc. Each time he does that he should be punched hard in the mouth. His lips should be shredded on his broken teeth. I wouldn't let him finish a sentence. Hilmi tells Nese he must prove the conspiracy or he will spend his life in jail for a murder he didn't commit. She pledges to help him.

episode 32

Weak part of the story> that psychologist who said that telling Gonul too much of the truth too quickly could break her mind and make her a vegetable or something. Bullshit. That was just a device to draw the story out over an extra 10 episodes. Yusuf tells her they met at a clinic when she had a broken finger and his arm was hurt. But he avoids telling her how her finger was broken when she asks, because, well that could make her a vegetable. Come on, we're not that dumb. So she gets frustrated because she doesn't understand things, and he won't really fill in the blanks for her. They cut to some music, some images of them looking wistfully, sometimes longingly, etc. then they need to rest, or she needs to go, and she never really learned anything, like her real name, that she isn't really married, that the pills he gives her could harm her baby, none of that. Knowing her real name could break her mind. bullshit. But since they claim it might, they can drag this process out forever.

Yusuf declares he is going to tell gonul the truth. Then he stops, remembering what the idiot psychologist told him. So he tells her next to nothing "we met at a clinic". That was the big reveal. He promised to tell her the truth and then he says nothing. So much angst, so much longing, so much pain.

And Yusuf says nothing when Gonul accuses him of having another woman in his life, he just looks at her for a couple hours. Finally after Gonul makes the accusation a couple more times he pauses for a few hours, staring intently at her the whole time, and then says "that woman is my business partner. She has feelings for me but I don't for her. Nothing happened between us." They drag this crap out over several episodes. And these episodes are peppered with 5 minute Turkish songs during which we see scenes of first one and then another character looking pensively into the distance. When they overplay this technique, it doesn't merely bore me, it actually angers me.

Honestly, the past 5 episodes consist of Yusuf telling Gonul "remember me", and Gonul recalling Yusuf saying "remember me" and thinking "I'm trying to remember".

I ff through much of this stupid episode, including the stupid scene of Hilmi, who snuck into Nese's room at her parent's home again, the two of them laughing and talking while he "hides" there, with her parents downstairs. They're not concerned they will hear them.

Cut to Tekin choking Figen and having her repeat "I am here to do whatever you want, and if I go to prison I won't give you away". Tekin is smiling his evil smile "Yes, that's right. You learned it'. And Fingen is so in love with Tekin that she is thrilled to be choked and threatened by him.

Tekin determines that he has to kill Yusuf if he ever wants to have Gonul alone to himself. So he goes out in search of him. The killer is tracking him to find Gonul and kill them both. Tekin chokes Ozlem trying to find out where Yusuf is. But Gonul calls and he lets go. She hangs up and he calls back and Yusuf speaks to him and tells him Sermin sent a killer after him and Gonul and he is keeping her safe. When he hangs up she asks about Sermin, having met her as Ahmet's boss at a dinner once. Finally Yusuf tells her I was going to tell you slowly but I see that won't work. So calm down and I will explain it all.

Episode 33

Yusuf finally tells her she is Gonul, Ahmet is Tekin, and she isn't married. She was engaged but broke it off, then they met and fell in love. Gonul flips out and falls asleep and dreams but can't remember and is upset.

Tekin has duct taped Ozmel and is holding her captive trying to force her to tell him where Yusuf is so he can kill him. She doesn't know but wouldn't tell him anyway. He breaks her collarbone. Gonul wakes up and tries to figure out the truth. More of this stupid repeat crap, dragging it out longer and longer.

Selma visit Tekin. She hears Ozlem scream from upstairs and finds her. Tekin won't let her leave. He tells her everything about Gonul and Yusuf and him. He trusts her somehow he says. Gonul won't leave when a killer is after Ahmet since he's the father of her child. Yusuf then says he is the father and she thinks he is lying. She fakes a stomach pain to go to the bathroom at a gas station. She texts Tekin as Ahmet.

I am getting tired of her nonsense. The killer is tracking Tekin and follows him as he goes to where Gonul said she is. Nese gets a file from Hilmi's office he says will prove he is innocent. She is supposed to bring it to the DA office.

The killer follows Tekin.

Nese looks at the file and finds out it is about her brother. She promised to help but she now has second thoughts. Either her true love or her brother will go to jail. but her brother is guilty.

episode 34

Selma recorded everthing Tekin told him on her phone. She calls the police but stops because she doesn't know what crime he committed. She realizes she fell in love with Tekin, the man who beat up her sister. She hates herself.

Gonul snuck out to meet Ahmet behind the station. There is a shootout and the killer is chasing Tekin and Gonul, with Yusuf and his men behind the killer. Gonul gets her memories back during the chase.

She says nothing to Tekin about her memories.

Nese burns the file. She wasn't as good as I thought she was. But I believe this was a test. Hilmi already had the evidence he needed, he just wanted to see if Nese could be trusted, if she loved him or Tekin more. Tekin is guilty, and he is innocent. And she still chose Tekin. No, it wasn't a test. It was really a file to save him and sink Tekin. And Nese burned it.

Butcher Nuri stopped Vermina and Vermama on their way to the airport. Vermina scolded him for not killing Gonul and Tekin and said he wouldn't get the other half of his payment. He said he had already been paid. He took out his pistol and shot them both in the head. Ensar must have hired him. Nope, it was Tekin who paid him to turn sides.

But Vermina told her guard to kill Gonul if the butcher didn't show up. Gonul took a pistol from her late father's desk and put it in her purse. Tekin showed the guards the photo of the dead women and informed them their new boss is Gonul, though for now to call her Julide. So she is safe from harm from them now.

Hilmi went to Nese. Unbelievable. He is so in love that he cannot hate her. Sorry, I could not do that.

episode 36

Ozlem attempted suicide, cutting her wrists. She tricked him to come there. She had no proof of Tekin's guilt. He won't fall in love with her so she will send him to prison. She bleeds out. Ozlem is finally dead. Good.

Yusuf got away but decided to go back and talk to the police.

Mete confessed to Selma that he killed his sister ilknur. She was going to go to the cops with everything she knew and Mete couldn't talk her out of it. Finally he confessed the reason why he didn't want them to investigate.

Figen the former whore and hairdresser is crying and melting down. He still wants Tekin to come to her, even after all his abuse. Tekin says he will pay her and she can go away. Figleaf freaks out, and I ff through it. I have had just about enough of this flood of sickening emotional outburst. One after another of these people is obsessed with someone who has no interest in them, and makes that very clear. They become mentally ill in their obsession, and when they are rejected, they seek revenge on the person who didn't love them. How many of these cases do we see in this show? And they repeat the same pattern over and over again. So now Figen says she will destroy him.

Ensar gets shot after he pulled a gun on the cops trying to arrest Yusuf. He admits that he sent the gunmen who shot his grandson. Then he dies.

Gonul is holding Tekin at gunpoint. She calls him Tekin and tells him what he calls love is childish selfishness. She tells him not to come near her. He will never know her baby. She cocks the pistol. Bang.

Tekin is shot in the side of his abdomen and falls to the couch. Gonul freaks out after shooting him, drops the pistol and as the guards rush into the house, she loses consciousness and collapses to the floor.

If she loses her goddamned memory again I might just break the TV set. I don't think I could go through that again.

I think my finger is going to be on the ff button through most of this. Writers don't seem to realise that when things take 20 episodes to resolve people get fed up and start not caring what happens. Gonfool with her constant lapses into unconsciousness - her determination to believe the wrong people in the face of their obvious lies - her stupid occupation in which she does absolutely nothing - her refusal to sleep with Tekin when we know what a psychopathic bully the man is - he would have raped her by now "for her own good" - her amnesia with only vague flashbacks of a man she knows isn't Tekin but it doesn't arouse any suspicions in her as to what is going on apart from maybe she cheated on him - it doesn't occur to her to take any practical steps to find out what is happening - as you say - find her birth certificate - her marriage certificate - all the paper trail that makes up a life - she would soon find out that Juju doesn't exist - but no - just look puzzled and confused and do nothing. She would much rather "rest" "calm down" have a cup of tea - I am quite bored with it at the moment - I don't really give a stuff what happens to her. That photo situation - I can't remember exactly - but they showed four men threatening another man - Yusuf holding him down on a table. Did they show him being threatened with a gun? Did they show his dead body? If they showed all that then Hilmi is done for - unless he can say he was there under duress with his client or some such story. I can't see them making Hilmi suffer as he is a goodie and has done nothing bad.

EPISODE 37 and 38

LOTS OF SPOILERS it didn't turn out the way I thought. It has some good twists to it, and it is a better ending that we are used to.

The photos, despite what they appear to show, are circumstantial. They only prove that they beat Alpo and threatened him. Gonul wrote a letter detailing what was done to her, which Hilmi gave to the DA. Figen and Ali testified to the cops. This at least gave the other side to the cops.

Where is the body? Was it cremated? No body, no crime, so they say. There is no evidence he is dead, and if they assume he is, they cannot prove who killed him. I think the case would be winnable. They could get them for forcibly kidnapping Alpo, but not much more.

Tekin lies and says he was robbed. He won't name Gonul. Selma records Gonul admitting she shot Gonul, and Tekin erases the recording. He asks for a syringe from Tekin. These scenes show a different Tekin. He admits she had a right to shoot him. He is admitting his guilt, not getting angry because she "doesn't appreciate all I've done for her". He wants her to hold his hand one last time, but she won't and leaves the room. Tekin cries. But we don't see his emotion turn to anger as it normally does. I always pictured him going nuts in a cascade of rage when his plans failed, but here we see him quietly giving up.

The Yusuf gang is released from jail after a couple of Kursat's men, now loyal to Gonul, tell the police what they know about the Alpo killing, and how Alpo's body was disposed of. Presumably they told the cops "I wasn't actually part of the team that did it, but here is what I know".

Mahmut had tried to take the fall to save the others, but now he is also released. Aylin hugs him, then slaps him for lying to her. LOL , they will get married, no doubt. HA, yes he just asked her to marry him.

The cops come to arrest Tekin, but he has left the hospital with Selma, who is yet another stupid person who fell under her 'charm'. Pyschopaths really can charm women it seems. She tells him who she is, and that she wants to be with him, to run away with him and start anew elsewhere. Tekin says he can only be himself, and that he is done. He tells her to pull over and he opens the door to get out.

EPISODE 38

RAH RAH RAH!....The Finale.

Yusuf is given the effects which were on his father's person when he died, a pair of baby shoes.

Hilmi is given a safe which Kursat intended for him to have. The key was taped to the back of a photo of Kursat and Hilmi. What is inside? They will show us later.

Selma and Mete are at her apartment. Her whole family is emotionally unstable it seems. Mete is ready to face justice for helping ilknur kill herself. But she wants him to go away with her, not to the police. He is all she has left. They will heal, and live a better life now.

Tekin walks to a cliff at the seashore. And has memory flashbacks of Gonul and himself, happy together. He takes her photo from his wallet and walks back to the car. (Where did he get a car?) Puts the photo on the instrument panel so he can look at it as he drives his car up to the cliff. But he isn't going fast and we don't see him go over. It was a tease.

NEW CHARACTER: .....GULIZAR. This lady calls Hilmi and says she is.......(drum roll)....Gonul's mother.

Gonul opens the paper and sees a photo of a car crashed on some rocks, apparently beneath a cliff. BUT...the body wasn't found. Yeah, they will assume he was thrown from the car and was washed away in the ocean. But you and I know it's a trick and Tekin is still alive, probably planning to come after Gonul and kill Yusuf again. It's that "I'll kill Yusuf if it is the last thing I do" play. He is probably past the point of thinking that once Yusuf is dead, Gonul will automatically look to himself to fill the void in her life. She did shoot him to drive home the point that she would never love him. So this is just a revenge move.

To his sick mind, perhaps this is even a gesture of the depth of his 'love' for her, and that by killing Yusuf, Gonul will "see how much I truly love her". Tekin should not be allowed to use the word "love". That should be a law. He should get an electric shock each time he utters the word, behavioral conditioning to try to stop him using that word to describe his anger, his selfishness, and his narcissism.

Tekin: "Gonul should be with me, because I lov-AAHHHHHHH. damn it! that hurts!"

Therapist: "Mr. Tekin, you know that it is against the law for you to say the word 'love'".

Tekin: "But you don't understand. We are meant to be together forever. We have a true lov-AAHHHHHH. DAMMIT! OK, OK, I have an intense feeling of romantic attachment towards her. hahaha, gotcha I just used the definition of lov-AAHHHHHHH"

Yusuf is taken in by the ruse, telling Gonul "He's dead. His car fell off a cliff. He can't hurt us anymore."

Hilmi and Nese hug each other by the seagulls. Her dad had a heart attack at the news. He doesn't believe Tekin is dead, so he is smarter than Yusuf. Nese needs time, she wants to be with her father.

Ysuf and Gonul talk about getting married. Yusuf didn't propose in a romantic way though. Then children come through the door holding signs saying Gonul marry Yusuf. So he salvaged that moment. And flowers arive, daisies, just like Serhat gave Nurgul.

Then the ring, which was his mother's. Touching romantic moment after all. To see them happy with this much time left in the episode tells me things are going to go very wrong for them soon. Tekin will try to ruin things one last time. Who will shoot him this time? They really should take turns.

Hilmi shows up and drops the bombshell. Your mother is alive. She made me promise a year ago not to tell you she was alive. (he might have added: "I know you're wondering why she would do that. Well...she actually wrote the script for this show, and if you knew about her back then, how could it play out this way?" Gonul: "hmm, yeah, I get it. Still sucks though")

Her mom lived in squalor and didn't want her daughter to live in poverty, so she left her at the orphanage, she explained to Hilmi. And she doesn't want Gonul to know that her mother left her at an orphanage and moved on, so she told him to say she died when Gonul was still a baby. She thought that would hurt her less than the truth.

(So why is she revealing herself now? I can't wait to hear the explanation for that. Is it because Gonul is a billionaire now, with a billionaire husband? Skeptical minds might think so)

Hilmi says she is waiting outside and wants to see her now that Tekin is "dead". (yeah right)

Gonul is pissed. "She left me! And now that Tekin is dead she wants to see me?" I have to agree with Gonul, that makes no sense. Was mama afraid she would fall for his psychopathic charms if she met him?

Gonul runs outside to give her mama a piece of her mind. (How could you write a script like this?)

Their eyes meet. Mama is full of love. They talk. "I had no choice."

Now the soapy script gets even more soapy. Gulivar, the mother of Gonul, was engaged to Yusuf's father! But Kursat went after her, kidnapped her in Cyprus (lots of kidnapping of Turkish women, and the occasional bunboy). She lived in exile for months til she could escape. But when she realized she was pregnant she went back to Kursat. But he thought the baby was Ensar's and didn't want her. She was disgraced, the townspeople knew what had happened to her and she couldn't live there.

(It's a Muslim thing; if the woman is raped, she is the one disgraced. After all, she had sex outside of marriage. I know that sounds like a joke, but it is true. Women have been stoned to death because they reported they were raped, but the testimony of a woman is less than that of a man in court. She would need 4 male witnesses to prove her case. I am not kidding. And what are the chances she can find 4 men willing to say they witnessed her being raped. If they were on her side, they would have stopped the rape. So she can't win, and when she can't prove her rape allegation, she gets charged with adultery. Sentence, stoning to death. That is in strict Muslim countries. Turkey isn't under Sharia Law. Still, the culture is such that women who are raped are disgraced by it. )

she didn't want Gonul to grow up with a disgraced mother, a bastard child. Gulivar is the reason for the grudge between Ensar and Kursat, not a land deal.

Gonul is still pissed. Gulivar stayed away even after Gonul was able to live comfortably as an adult. Even then she never contacted her. Gonul can't see the reason for that.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for some explanation myself, and why she decided this was the time to make contact. for a minute there I was thinking she would say Ensar was the father and she didn't want to let two siblings get married. But that wasn't it.

Nope, no explanation.

SIX YEARS LATER...

..............

Kids are kicking a ball on a snow covered yard. Half the episode still remains.

Lale is there watching her adopted son Omer hang decorations. The former street urchin lives in luxury now.

Hilmi says the permits are ready for the new orphanage and it opens in 2 weeks. gonul is happy. Former goons are now helping repair orphanages in refugee camps, life is better all around.

(Where is Tekin? Could he be scouting those orphanages for a replacement for Gonul? Is he wearing a toupee so he can't be recognized?)

Lale and Gonul seem to be working together on the orphanage projects. Nese still doesn't want to be around Gonul, she reminds her of her brother whom she mourns. (but the smart money says he really isn't dead). Mazhar is alive and well, and he misses Nese. She doesn't come around the house, apparently because Gonul is around there so much with the orphanage work.

Omer likes a girl and wants Hilmi's advice. He says go where she goes, find out what she likes. Do you know what she likes? Omer tells him: "Ballet". Now Hilmi knows the problem. How can Omer express an interest in ballet? What will Hilmi tell Omer; "find another girl"?. No, he says to him "it's the tights, isnt it?" Omer says yeah. Hilmi says you can't dance with ballerinas if you refuse to wear tights.

Where is this show going?

GongirlfinallyBack helps Omer with his list of ten ways to impress a girl, a task Hilmi gave him instead of wearing tights. Gonul says "always respect her, let her make her own choices, respect her choices, because loving someone never means trying to control them".

OK, that is the moral of this story they want to get across.

Gulivar shows up with presents for the kids, and Gonul has forgiven her and has a good relationship with her.

Everything is going so smoothly, and everyone is so happy that you just know Tekin is going to show up at some point to try to punish them for not being controlled by him.

Maybe this time Nese will shoot him and exorcise her grief over his loss. Then everyone can take turns stomping on his dying corpse and sing, "this time he's really dead".

And his dying words will be "But Gonul, I really lov-AAHHHH, dammit that hurts."

Nese is pregnant with Hilmi. He doesn't want to be in the delivery room while she screams. I don't blame him. Why do couples thing it's a good idea to watch the woman bleed and scream in pain? A childhood friend of mine tried to watch the birth of his son. His wife yelled "he's falling" as he passed out.

Mahmut and Aylin take presents out of their nice black car. He won't let her carry the presents. They have a little girl about 5 years old or so. Aylin seems to give the orders, but with a smile.

FIFTEEN MINUTES left in the show. And now we hear ominous sounding cello music as we watch an aerial shot of a small craft docked at a rocky out-cropping. Men are off loading the fish. And the third man shown, with his long hair and full beard is...yeah, you know who it is. TakingFish has brooding eyes and an unhappy face. He knows that somewhere people are happy. Dammit.

Finally we see Yusuf and Gonul's boy. He is a cute looking kid. He is helping daddy wrap presents.

Even Ridvan has a girlfriend now. Life minus Tekin is so much better for everyone.

TeFisherman is in his plank-walled dwelling. He takes a vinyl album from a stack on the shelf and places it on the turntable, closes his eyes and sits in the corner as the easy listening quartet type music takes him away. BUT... he has a visitor. Aha, Nese has come to see him. She wasn't grieving, she knew he was alive. But he won't let her tell anyone he is alive and fishing for a living, not even his dad. Nese mentions Gonul. He asks if she is in trouble. No. Then I don't want to know, he says. She tells him to leave the country and start over elsewhere, become a different person. He says he tried being a different man once, a better man. But he couldn't. He is what he is and he cannot change, he says. The sea quiets his mind and is good for him.

Back to the happy family scene and friends visiting. Yusuf's son "Can" (better name than "Try") breaks something and Yusuf goes to see what happened.

The boy rubs his left ear with his hand, and denies breaking the vase, and rushes away.

Ominous music plays.

Back to Tekin and Nese. They share some tea. Does he have friends?

"Friends...imply too much effort. they ask too many questions."

He asks if Hilmi knows, and Nese doesn't answer, but shows him an ultrasound of her bebe. He says he is very happy, but now she must listen to him. Since she is having a baby, she can never come see him again. Everyone has forgotten him (he is officially dead) and she must forget him too. "And be very happy. Forget about this place and forget about me."

but what about you? she asks.

TekinFisherman says I'll be happy, I am happy. AND HE RUBS HIS LEFT EAR WITH HIS HAND as the same ominous music plays.

Nese: "You're lying. You rub your ear when you lie."

Tekin tells her he is happy and says now you must go.

Yusuf, Gonul, Mahmut, Aylin, and Can are eating baked goods and unwrapping presents. Yusuf sends Can to go get their present. Can goes into the next room and reaches for the present from it's hiding place. Then the door unlatches, apparently all on its own, and then we see a dark figure starting to enter, stopping, and rushing away. We never see the face.

Yusuf comes to see what is taking so long. Then he asks "why is that door open?" and walks over and closes it.

The present is a framed drawing of their future home. Yusuf, Gonul, and Can squeeze together for a family photo on the couch in front of the large bay window. Outside in the darkness you can see a face peering toward the camera, Tekin.

The bastard must be sneaking around to teach the young boy psychopath and lying lessons. Can even picked up his tell for lying, rubbing the left ear.

Gonul is going to shit a brick when that photo gets developed.

Tekin is a crafty old psycho. He will ruin the young boy if he can't have Gonul.

"I will teach him everything I know, just like a father should. And this way I can finally show Gonul that she is my true lov-ahhhh. dammit."

Oh dear oh dear oh dear - they just couldn't resist it could they? As soon as Tekin in his where did he get that car rolled so slowwwwly towards the cliff you just knew he wasn't going to be in it. This must have been the longest wrap up episode in the history of soaps. And it didn't wrap it all up. I refer to the gang keeping those kids in a warehouse and the reference to their taking stuff from us. What were they taking from penniless ragamuffins if it wasn't their organs? They were a cheeky bunch of brats anyway. And Gonul - who made her the boss when she tells her mother "I didn't say you could go yet" I'd have given her a slap right then. And her mother - she doesn't show her face until Gonul is the richest woman in Turkey - some coincidence. I was surprised by the demise of Vermin and Vermama - and that was at Tekin's order - so he was responsible for killing somebody in the end. It made me laugh the way he overheard the three bodyguards planning to kill him and Gonul before they knew that the Vermins were dead - he shows them the pictures of the bodies and then doesn't sack them. Would anybody keep employed three thugs they heard planning to kill them? And this baby turning out to be Tekin's? When did that happen then because she had left him for months before he kidnapped her and she never had sex with him when they were living together as Juju and Akmet. And if she had recovered her memory wouldn't she have considered the possibility (had it existed) that Tekin could have been the father and had a DNA test done secretly? This ending with the face of Tekin in the background was somewhat stupid. He was a wanted man who had been free for six years - would he risk his freedom for a woman he knew was out of his reach? It seems to me that they were leaving room for another season just in case.

No, the baby is not Tekin's. At first it seems like that because you think that the identical behavior when lying might be a genetic phenomenon. But remember that the DNA test proved it was Yusuf's back when she went to the hospital, they got a sample through their super Mafia connections, and that was how they found that out, I think. Anyway, I do remember they found out by DNA it is Yusuf's boy. Also, she never slept with Tekin. When she was Julide she told him, OK, you say we are married but I don't remember that and I am not comfortable sleeping with you yet. The best he could do was to sleep beside her and cuddle.

So how did Can pick up the same behavior when lying? The clue on that was showing Tekin almost slipping in the back door where Can was. He must have been secretly meeting with the kid, and exacting a promise from him to never tell his parents about him, the way Tekin could always get people to do what he wanted. And he was teaching the kid things. Kids learn to mimic behavior quickly, and he learned that 'rub the ear when lying' thing from observing Tekin.

As soon as the butcher stopped his car and blocked Vermina's car I knew he was going to kill them. But I assumed that Ensar had bought him off. I thought the butcher had contacted Ensar to say sorry, I wasn't aware these people were connected to you and I don't want trouble with you, and then Ensar said OK, just switch to my side and there is no problem. I never suspected that Tekin was involved.

Yeah they completely dropped the ball with the organ harvesting gang thing. It would only have taken a couple of minutes to tie up that deal, to at least have some conversation which explained how they had busted the gang and moved the kids to one of their orphanages.

And the back story with the mother was so weak I thought it was stupid to include it. What benefit did it provide to the story? Was it supposed to be part of the big happy ending scene? That is the only possible benefit of bringing her into the plot. But she didn't add to the happiness. They couldn't explain why she never got in touch with Gonul. When Gonul asked her that, she had no answer. So she wasn't a very sympathetic character. They could have done without her completely. In fact, as you said, she only showed up once Gonul became the richest woman in Turkey, so she looks about as bad as Vermama.

And it was pretty sloppy of Tekin to go to all that trouble to make people think he is dead, and then slip up and allow himself to wind up in the family portrait. But I would really enjoy the scene where they get the photos back (assuming the camera was not digital) and one of them notices a face peering out of the dark background, and does a double take.

When they found him Tekin would start yammering "Gonul, I know I upset you. OK, you're upset. I shouldn't have stalked you, and I won't do it again. I just needed to see that you were alright, and to see how your boy is doing. You know, no one is better than me to teach him about" BANG BANG BANG goes the pistol.

Tekin: "Gonul, OK, yes, you're very upset. Put down the gun. Yes, that's good. Let's talk....Hey, where did you get that vehicle? Isn't that what they use to flatten out the asphalt when laying down road? Gonul, you're driving straight toward me. You need to turn. GONUL!"

Lol !!! So Tekin will finally sleep with the fishes in your resolution!! Oh well - that's another Turkish soap done and dusted, the inevitable question now is what are we going to tear apart next? Al Hayba (30 eps) Disappearance (30 eps) More to say (30 eps) Tango (31 eps)

I'll check them out and make my pick in an update later tonight. Right now I'm looking at more of those "Secrets of WWII" episodes. In Churchill's 6 volume set of books on the war (a great resource, which includes many of the cables he and FDR exchanged and other documents) he never once spoke about Bletchley Park and the capture of the enigma machines and code books from two submarines. That was on purpose. He had mentioned in an earlier book of the code breaking success in WWI when the Russians captured a German code book and passed it on to the British Admiralty. The Germans read this and sought to improve their coding before WWII. The British kept using the old code book system, which the Germans were able to read. This allowed them to know the route of the convoys and have great success getting their uboats in position in time. It was not until Ultra (the breaking of the enigma codes) that the stranglehold on shipping was loosened. The the US entered the war and began mass producing ships, which improved the supply chain. We began to build them faster than they could sink them. Then we established air bases on islands across the North Atlantic, and Iceland and Greenland so planes could fly out and help cover the "black hole" area of the middle Atlantic where most of the convoys were attacked. The British also established special submarine hunting groups with specialized equipment. These ships didn't escort the convoys, but would rush to the scene when they heard of an attack and loiter in the area killing the slow moving subs by depth charge or waiting for them to eventually surface and shooting them then. The Brits and the Americans both did great work improving various technologies for detecting subs at greater distances, and for killing them once found. Once long range aircraft with air to surface radar were brought online, the life of German submariners became extremely stressful. Even in pitch black in the dead of night, they might suddenly be lit up by a spotlight from a diving plane which then shot them to pieces. They had no idea how they could be detected at night like that. Toward the end of the war the German submariner must have been a very nervous fellow. They never did realize their code had been broken. That secret was well kept.

Sounds interesting There seems to be a lot of secrets still kept about WWII. Just noticed another Turkish show which might be interesting "Behzat C" An Ankaran detective with a dark personal life and a disdain for rules and political correctness solves murders and fights against police corruption. It has 96 episodes so it should take us a good while to get through it !!
