After the shock of meeting her biological father Sam Kurtis, Courtney has a difficult decision to make about her future as Stargirl.

Barbara: "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reached out to him. I know who he is. I..."

Courtney: "It's okay. I needed to know. I put all of us in so much danger, because I believed in some fairy tale."

Barbara: "Courtney, all I want in the world is to take you and run and just keep you safe. But there are families in Blue Valley that need us right now, that need protecting. So, what do I do? If I let you stay and fight, you... you might die. "

Courtney: "I don't think it matters, mom. It's not meant for me anymore. I need to get to school, but I'm ready to leave Blue Valley whenever you want."

Courtney is in the basement. She grabs the Cosmic Staff from the case and holds it in her hands. Nothing happens.

Pat: Court, what is it?"

Courtney: "Come on, please."

Pat: "Court."

Courtney: "Brainwave remembers who I am."

Pat: "Okay, we got to get out of here."

Courtney: "Come on. It doesn't want me anymore. It knows I'm not Starman's daughter and it doesn't want me."

Pat: "Court, that's just not true."

Courtney: "Yes it is! The staff chose me because it thought I was someone else."

Pat: "The staff didn't choose you because of who your father is or isn't."

Courtney: "It knows all of my mistakes."

Pat: "No."

Courtney: "It knows my dad isn't Starman."

Pat: "I don't know a lot about the staff. It's always known more than I did about almost everything. But it always knew that your dad wasn't Starman, Court. It chose you because it believed in you. It's just waiting for you to believe in yourself again. That's all. Heroes can come from anywhere. I want to give you some time, okay. Think about that."

She goes upstairs and asks Pat and Barbara for help.

Courtney: "It's not working. I need you with me. Both of you."

They follow her into the basement. Once again she picks up the Cosmic Staff. It finally reacts and begins to glow.

Shining Knight stands on the stairs and whispers:

"Our Queen has risen."
