Discuss DC's Stargirl

In episodes seven and eight, Stargirl encounters her arch-enemy Cindy Burman (a.k.a. Shiv) (Meg DeLacy).

Three months ago at the election for school president, Cindy sent the compromising pictures of Yolanda to everyone in the school and she also stole Yolanda's boyfriend Henry King Jr. (son of Brainwave) (Jake Austin Walker).

Cindy is the daughter of supervillain Dr. Shiro Ito (a.k.a. Dragon King) (Nelson Lee). Her father has experimented on her and surgically altered her body to give her superhuman powers.

Since her childhood she has been trained in martial arts and she is faster, stronger and more agile than others her age.

With her sub-dermal grafted armour, retractable implanted blades along her forearms and regenerative ability, she is truly a formidable opponent.

Does Stargirl stand any chance at all against her?

I know the show has hinted at an explanation but it is getting a bit silly that all of these supers just so happen to be in the same town. Not that I'm complaining--I don't mind silly--but I feel the need to point it out.

Well, there's always some place, like Metropolis, Gotham City, Central City, Starling City and Smallville, with a cluster of superheroes and villains. Now it's Blue Valley. Coincidence?

Let's see how closely this show follows the DC comic book " Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. (1999)".

It's mainly the villains, and that's pretty much is explained away as they all belonged to the Injustice Society. Before Stargirl and family moved in, only one other hero actually lived in that town, Hourman (who was killed as the villains moved in).

But what are the chances that the superhero doohickeys all choose kids in that small town rather than somewhere else in America? If that's a commentary along the lines of "anyone can be a hero", cool, but they haven't explained it yet.

Only Stargirl's staff chose her. Stargirl/Courtney stole all the other items from the JSA base and brought them to the town. As for how the other kids got the items (Spoilers):

  • Courtney gave the Hourman's hourglass to Cameron as it was genetically coded to Hourman and thus worked for his son.
  • Dr. Midnight's goggles is just a pair of augmented reality goggles with an AI. It didn't choose Beth; she just happened to find it cause she's nosey. The only chance happening was Courtney dropping it in her closet for Beth to find when she moved the other items.
  • The Wild Cat's suit didn't choose Yolanda either, Courtney did.

Fair enough.
