I think it was gutsy to keep the first series pretty much entirely on terra firma. My concern is that with all the time spent on character development, a lot of that was spent with characters who will remain earthbound.
The crew themselves seem quite underdeveloped and any interaction between the crew and those on earth in the second series is by its very nature not going to be face to face (which will likely prove unsatisfying from an acting point of view).
Still, I'll be tuning in to any second series as much to see how these issues are handled as anything else.

It was gutsy, but it also meant avoiding much of what makes the premise interesting. I've certainly no problem with artier, mood based aesthetics. But in the case of The First, many of those artier, more ponderous plot threads were quite conventional and cliche'd. I didn't feel there was anything particularly profound or groundbreaking here.

I just watched 3 episodes of this dreck. Was never much into soap operas, not to mention just being naturally resistant to new age depictions of emasculated men. Is it just me, or did all the women characters harbor butthurt over one thing or another?
