So I get this in the narrative, but don't understand any larger implications. Such as Native American lore, etc. Anyone know?

Nevermind. Your reply caused me to remember my question and simply search for an answer. Apparently, it was no lore at all, but rather poetic language for becoming "small." I guess I was being a bit too literal and placing too much confidence in some presumed-to-be-known mythology.
