Discuss The Haunting of Hill House

I don't want to invest my time in it if it's not gonna scare me.

Do all white people look the same to you, Oldnewbie? Kinda racist.

Wow!! No that's reaching!

Yeah I am not sure how anyone could infer racism in asking if a TV show was worth watching! Oh wait, it's Kewl Kat... as I recall they did something similar to a comment of mine from another show. Totally inferred something not even suggested!

And this is weird. It says under my handle I am Gus Gorman! And the picture is of Richard Pryor. My forum pic is of Boris Karloff! I am not Gus Gorman... but I did ask if the show was worthwhile. I am watching it now and it is. But not as scary as so many articles claimed it to be.

Is there anywhere to report this kind of tech issue?

Richard P. is that you?

I would call this creepy in parts more than scary. The scares are more about character-driven drama (i.e. real-life scares), but I found them quite effective, and there are definitely moments of supernatural eerieness that could get under your skin. But is it scary? Not really. This isn't about jump scares, which I often find boring and shallow anyway, to be honest. I personally liked it quite a bit. Episode 5 is the best in the season, with an ending that will haunt you even if you see it coming (which you might if you allow yourself to be invested in the story and characters). There is quite a bit of character-driven moments, however, and if you're not fond of developed conversations between characters you might get bored with it. Although I very much liked the series, it kind of whimpers out in the second half. It could have been reduced to 8 episodes from 10 and been paced more tightly.

No and I am also not Gus Gorman! No clue as to how someone else's pic and name got associated with mine. My forum pic is Boris Karloff!

Ha! Actually I replied to the original post by Gus Gorman. The threading on this site can be confusing though so I can understand the mistake.

To explain for anyone who didn't catch it, Gus Gorman was Richard Pryer's character in the very silly Superman 3.

But I made that post so I am not cure how the confusion in who made it occurred! Oh well, the beauty of tech... lol And yeah I figure it was a character played by him but did not recall. "Superman 3" was indeed an attempt at comedy but came off as simply silly.

You posted this, didn't you?: "My issue has been keeping everyone straight! The daughters all look alike, the kids playing them look alike, which isn't odd them being sisters but in the telling of the story I was so far at times not sure if I was watching Shirley or Theo. Hope I have it down now."

There are three daughters and they all look very different.

To you. Still don't see any racism in anything he wrote.

Oh wow really? That's really bizarre! Must be a glitch in their system. Very odd.

I get where you are coming from, chilone. Trust me, I do. It may or may not be racist. We can't see inside his heart. But the fact that Oldnewbie conveniently forgot that he brought up the topic of the girls looking alike is rather odd and it helps to support my theory. Furthermore, he suspiciously used misdirection to get us to focus on the "Gus Gorman" conspiracy theory, which totally changed the conversation from apparent racism to "a technical issue." Very odd to say the least! I am not saying Oldnewbie is a terrible person per say. I truly feel there are very fine people on BOTH sides of this debate. But you have to admit there is something strange going on here.

FWIW, I also got confused a few times trying to distinguish between the younger Shirley and Theo actresses. It helped when Theo started wearing gloves!

I dunno. Honestly, at the beginning of the series, I had a hard time telling Theo and Shirl apart but it got easier.

The strangeness is you.

I am Caucasian not that it should matter. And yeah I did at first have trouble keeping the characters separate. So that makes me racist? What institution are you posting from? I am surprised they let patients have internet access! Oh dear, that little but of humor will make you post that I am prejudice against mentally ill people! Ha ha ha. You are a true "piece of work" as it is said.

And like with "Sharp Objects" there is no DEBATE. Just you making an accusation. Must be very lonely in the rubber room...

I agree, the fact Young Luke was the smallest and Adult Luke was the hugest and lost his glasses threw me off, but I knew Young Theo was the girl from Gifted and Adult Theo looked like Megan Fox so that helped out a bit.

I am happy so many of you do not pick up any racism in my innocent comment about having trouble at first telling who was who among the girls (when hey aged; the young actresses are fairly easy like Nell from Theo and Shirley).

Kewl Kat started something similar, though not race based, with me on the forum for the recent HBO show "Sharp Objects".

Thanks again.

Oh and Gus Gorman\Richard Pryor passed away several years ago.
