Personally this takes place 930 years after the Urseks were split and 50 years before the events of the first movie.

I haven't seen Labyrinth since I was a child but I did like it. Honestly, The Dark Crystal bored me as a child but as an adult, I find it quite fascinating. I pick up some psychological Jungian theory with the duality of man all packaged in a family-friendly medium. Of course, as a child, this went right over my head. I think this is why The Dark Crystal didn't really take off. It was too deep for most people.
