Going OT here, but I just bought and watched the first two episodes of season one, and they were awesome! I had refused to watch The Orville because I thought Seth MacFarlane was making fun of Star Trek, but he's not! It's more of a homage, like Galaxy Quest.
And the ship! The Orville is one of the most gorgeous Starships I have ever seen! It's so elegant and graceful, so classy. I haven't felt this way about a Starship since the first time I saw the Enterprise NCC 1701D! I think that I'm going to enjoy getting into this series. Besides, Seth MacFarlane likes Toto, so he can't be all bad.

@wonder2wonder: I just bought the entire first season of The Orville yesterday and I plan to binge watch it today. A question: Don't you think one of the evil alien races (I think they're called the Krill) look A LOT like the Jem'Hadar from Deep Space Nine?

There are similarities, not only with some aliens, but also in some scenes, and as a Star Trek fan it will be fun to notice them.

@wonder2wonder: I was a bit taken aback when the Krill's face masks came off. I thought, "wait a minute, they look like the Jem'Hadar!" I was almost as surprised as when I saw the scene on the series finale of Discovery where Dr. Korovich announces to Michael that he's really Agent Daniels. Yes, it will be fun to look for the similarities to Star Trek. I never realized how much of a Trekkie Seth MacFarlane is. Since I'm new to the series it's going to take awhile for me to discuss The Orville as fluently as I discuss Mission Impossible and Star Trek, so I hope that everyone on the board will be patient with me.
Fun Fact: Daniel Craig and King Abdullah II of Jordan are also Trekkies. King Abdullah even had an uncredited cameo on Voyager while he was Crown Prince.

Yes, Seth MacFarlane is a true fan, unlike the majority of the NuTrek writers.
Here is a post about him and Star Trek.
As with other series, you are more than welcome to write your own posts and also to reply and discuss in the other threads.

@wonder2wonder: Thanks. For some nutty reason I was afraid of posting something stupid and making a fool of myself. I think my reaction was because back during Discovery's second season, I asked a question on Quora about the episode where the crew captures the "Red Angel" (who turns out to be Michael Burham's mother), and the response I got was brutal. I was called all sorts of names, with the most popular insult being that I was an idiot. No matter how I tried to defend myself, these Canon Extremists just kept telling me how stupid I was. It was my first experience of online bullying. This happened back in 2019, but it still hurts and breaks my heart. I eventually stopped posting on Quora (the questions were getting really stupid anyway).

The real problem is that you shouldn't have been watching Discovery to start with.
