Let's skip to the end and consider an existential question:
What is the meaning of death?

"Who are you?"
"You don't know me, but you knew my ancestors."
"Oh, Kelly. Our goddess, lord, and savior."
"You're immortal."
"The cultivation of the mind becomes a lot less stressful when you don't have to worry about dying."
"None of this explains why you created these hallucinations."
"Oh, everything you experienced was real. Think of them as custom-made micro-universes, tailored just for you. The content was gathered from your own minds and cultural databanks. That's not what mattered. What did matter is that each of you experienced a moment when you thought you were going to die. And we were there to experience it with you."
"Why would you wish to experience death?"
"Immortality has its rewards. But after a while, the drive to advance begins to atrophy. Once you've seen it all and done it all and time has no worth, all that's left is idle play. We've become complacent, because none of us can conceive of our own mortality. That's why we had to see it through your eyes."
"You know, it's interesting. As far beyond us as those people are, there's one thing we have in common. Neither of us can fathom our own mortality. We all know we're gonna die, but it's impossible for us to visualize it."

I couldn't help but notice Death seems to be like an ongoing motif in the first 3 episodes.
Is it just coincidence, or is it done on purpose?
The episode itself was great. Love how each episode sofar has been different tonally.
It was very Twilight Zone-y, although TOS and TNG had their own fair share of mystery episodes

Sounds like a contradiction. Did the writers not realize that?

A contradiction you say? Like a......... MORTALITY PARADOX?

I don't think they were referring to the paradox I found, in the show. They were referring to a different one. And apparently didn't notice the other.
In a way, those intersecting-dimensions aliens were becoming the Talosians.

Don't know who wrote these episodes, but I didn't make it through this one and can't waste my time watching the rest of the season. Were the writers under pressure to deliver something? Were they not given enough time? Did they run out of ideas?
The second they broke through the clouds and didn't see a city, they should've turned back. After meeting so many other advanced races, it should've been obvious that being duped like this was an enormous red flag. But they just chugged on.
It was nice while it lasted, but RIP Orville. I'll remember season 1&2 and do my best to scrub this one from my memory.

The writing has definitely gone off a cliff, and I found the season 3 visuals to be disappointing too.
But they had plenty of time, they've been working on these few episodes for... what, 3 years now?

No, no, and no.
Yes, it's called being an explorer.
Did the 30 pieces of silver come from Alex Kurtzman or Paramount?
Season 3 of The Orville is the best the show has ever been, so it's your loss

No.
The writing has not gone over any cliff. Not at all.
The exact opposite in fact.
Your "observation" the visual effects are somehow bad is nothing more than low effort trolling.
Social media is filled with positive post after post on The Orville's visuals.
The episodes didn't take years of work, they had a little thing called the corona virus pandemic and needed to find a way to film but stay safe.
The episodes were already filmed, edited, and ready to go when Hulu executives changed the premiere of Season 3
