With every hour critical to the earth's survival, unless the latest villains who are trying to interfere with the launch are members of a doomsday cult (God wants the earth to be destroyed, do not defy his will!!!), who the hell would want to mess with the only chance ALL OF US have to survive? At least there is some tenuous rationale for the Russian's behavior: they fear we'll somehow engineer things so that only their country is affected, so it's "If we go, we all go." Still, you'd think they'd know the "gravity" of the situation - our mutual destruction - and figure some chance to live is better than none so why not trust the Americans? So I can only guess the villains are suicidal. Nothing else makes any sense.
