Don't get me wrong, I like both Bette and Joan, even though they're no angels. I don't know the real deal, because I'm not exactly an expert on these women, so keep in mind that I'm only talking about what I see in "Feud", and by no means I'm saying that this is an accurate reflection of the actual events. Anyway, after seeing yesterday's episode, I feel sort of bad for Joan. I mean, her brother was obviously manipulative and hurtful, making fun of her because he was never her mother's favorite child, while he was the "golden boy" (and speaking from experience, this is something that never goes away). Then, we can see the treatment she gets from Bette and Robert, which is downright disrespectful and plain cruel. I mean, we do know that she was eventually left out of the picture in a very humiliating way. Wasn't Joan the one who brought Robert, Bette and her together in the first place? I understand that both Bette and Joan were rivals, but it seems to me like Bette enjoys hurting Joan, more than Joan enjoys playing with Bette.
It's just an impression I get. Maybe I should wait for the show to end to give a final verdict, but so far, this is the impression that I get.

Wow, this is quite a different story than what we're watching on Feud, and it totally debunks Christina's story. It also gives the motive behind Christina's actions. It tells the twins' view of Joan. We know Christina's POV, but what about the brother? Anyone know?

Are you talking to me? Who's flirting? I was just being polite.

I love Joan, but I believe Christina. The twin seemed like she was reading from a script or just repeating words she had practiced for years. It's possible Joan could have treated the twins one way and Christina another. I don't know, I have never heard of the brother saying anything about the situation.

I'm not sure what to believe about Joan. You have Christina's account in her book. Even she says the movie based on the book isn't completely accurate. Then you have these people talking about how great Joan was. But then you have other accounts...and not to mention the version we're seeing in Feud...which, let's face it, isn't portraying her in a positive light. So is Feud purely fictionalized account of the relationship between Joan and Bette?
What to believe?

Biopics based on historical events inevitably use creative license. I doubt FX Network would produce a gross misrepresentation of the facts, albeit certain truths may be stretched for dramatic purposes. This is one of the best productions they have ever done and they surely are hopeful of Emmy consideration. And based on youtube interviews of the starlets themselves, especially Davis, truth has been told.

I never knew she was originally supposed to be in Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte . One of my favorites, I would have liked it even more with her in it.

I believe it all, because why couldn't she have just been great to some, but maybe not so great to others? I don't see what's so bad about her personality/attitude in the Feud version - especially that I hadn't already heard, I actually expected her to be played as meaner/nastier. Bette actually did say, "I wouldn't piss on Joan Crawford if she were on fire." Joan actually said, "There's a lot of bytch in every woman...and a lot of bytch in every man too." Bette and Joan did not get along, I have always heard that -and mostly on TCM.
I am a fan of both.

Lol, I wonder if she's the first one to use that insult. I say that to people all the time. Including my friends. I also say, "I'd kill you for a dollar." Lol, but in reality, I wouldn't. I need at least 25 grand to even consider it.

I never knew that either and I do agree that I would have probably liked it even more with Joan (nothing against Olivia, though). Next time I watch that movie, I will probably find myself imagining what it would have been like with Crawfish doing Libby's scenes.
I couldn't watch that YouTube video that you posted (yet), but it seems to be an eye-opener for a lot of people. Personally, I don't know what to believe, as there seems to be a lot of different versions surrounding the lives of these two women.

I do believe Joan was strict and mean to her older children, who inherently might have problems passed down to them. Joan, a bit unstable herself, may not have known how to deal with them.
By the time the twins came along, Joan may have settled in her ways or the twins might have been the perfect children for Joan.
According to Christina and Christopher, she was a monster, but I can see they were no angels themselves. Joan was taking no prisoners and that style didn't mesh well with those children. I will say Joan was at fault, but then we move into adulthood, and they still want to crawl back to "Mommy Dearest?"
On the Youtube version, Joan actually helped Christina get into acting -- multiple times. At that point she was grown and or near grown, she didn't need to be returning to the well, if Joan was such a monumental monster.
Christ went to a number of school due to his behavior. In life, he was not successful, didn't speak to Joan in the last 5 years of her life, and thought she was going to leave him something in her will. Again why?
Anyway, I think perhaps Joan learned something from raising her older children and wanted to not repeat mistakes on the twins. That does happen.
By the way, I did find Christopher's one and only interview, and he confirms Christina's book.

I don't know if she was the first, but it's a great one and in my mind she invented it.

Yes, nothing against Olivia.
Yes, I know I am going to do exactly that too!
Hope you enjoy when you get the chance.
They are my number 1 and 2 old time actresses, I don't have a problem believing all the good and the bad about either of them (no one's perfect), I think they both were some bad azz bytches
