Let's say Riverdale runs for 5 years and the Archie comics are merely a foundation. That's a long time for our boy Jughead to be a loner. So who should he romance: Betty, Veronica, Josie, Archie, Sabrina, or someone new?

It was rumored that he was going to be asexual before the start of the series but I think the creators are going to keep their options open, but not focus on any love interest in the short term.

I guess there are a lot of characters to manage. I like the Jughead character and the actor portraying him. Let's hope they explore their options with more screen time for him.

I'm not sure why, but since he started at the school paper I was thinking that he's going to have an unrequited crush on Betty, a storyline that would be a reflection of Betty's with Archie. Really, though, they're probably going to have to explore why Archie and Jughead were on the outs before they add anything else to the Jughead storyline.

Personally I think he should be in love with Archie. The love stories between two girls in love with a guy; Betty/Archie/Veronica or the quiet, intellectual outcast falling for the pretty blond girl has been done to death. Why can't said social outcast be in love with his popular best friend who happens to be a guy? At least that's something that hasn't been overdone.

What about someone from the comics, like Trula Twyst

I am really enjoying watching Jughead become a bit more prominent and I think his character as it is in Riverdale has potential. I like the actor, his looks and really liked the developments in the last episode - especially when I was thinking like, 'is that...is that - Skeet Ulrich??' and then went on a discussion board and someone's post confirmed it for me. I found the last few minutes/scene with Jughead poignant, especially the way they revealed just why he felt so strongly about the Drive-In closing :(
As for love interests for him, at this point I'm pretty open-minded about where he could go, whether it's for one of the main girls or whether we see his friendship with Archie and their background explored further...

"The Last Picture was Show" episode really moved Jughead's story along. So many fans are still wondering about the rift with Archie. Now we don't know if it was caused by the business dispute between their fathers or Archie's MIA summer. Looking forward to more details. I think the show is really doing a great job in creating interest in the characters and not just the murder mystery as to who killed Jason.

If Riverdale is going to follow the usual teen series concept, then Jughead will probably have a thing with Cheryl. They will both feel awkward about it and do everything to keep it quiet, but it will be rather hot and passionate. It doesn't last very long though, and the breakup will be ugly because someone will find out about it and threaten to go public.

Cheryl?!? I'm not sure any man can survive an encounter with that ball buster. Maybe Josie and Jughead could have a fling or maybe Jughead is just one of those people who never find someone in high school, but have romance later in life.

Not sure how to do spoilers yet, so I won't say who, but it does look like he starts a relationship with someone pretty quickly. They look cute together, even though being in the first season, it's obviously not going to last.

I know Josie has her fans, but after she went off in the one mais scene she's had, I'm not so keen on her... I'd like to see Jughead fine someone but not sure about any of the girls so far...

I hope they keep him ace, but if he has to hook up, I think Betty is the logical choice. He'd start as a sympathetic ear, but then Betty will start to realize she likes talking to him more than she likes talking about Archie.
I do hope they keep Ethel in the mix, but that might not go over well with the viewers?

A lot of people seem to ship those two, but I hope that he stays single, too, though when he got the job on the school paper I had the feeling that he'd get an unrequited crush on Betty, reflecting her's on Archie.
Ethel seems to have gotten some negative feedback, but I don't know why. Anyway, given what Jughead said about Chuck's dimissal from the team having consequences in the weeks to come, I'm thinking that Ethel will be back.

So far I'm not feeling Jughead with the anyone. The only pairing that has a hint of romantic chemistry to me is Archie and Veronica. Don't know where this Betty-Veronica stuff is coming from. And Jughead-Betty has too much of a platonic Lucas-Haley/Clark-Chloe vibe to me for romance to even be possible.

I agree on the platonic vibe between Bets and Jugs. They may have a short fling, but nothing permanent.
I personally like the idea of Jugs and Veronica and I hope the show goes there eventually. I think their chemistry could be explosive because they are such complete opposites in personality and background and their attraction would be unexpected. Anyone with me on this?
And please no Ethel.
