Discuss Star Trek: Discovery

I would like to hear what fans hope or wish season 3 of Star Trek Discovery will be about. The creative team have given us with no firm idea but I think they might have left some bread crumbs in the recent short 'Calypso' and the 2nd episode ' New Eden'. We know that Burnham, DSC and a reasonable number of her crew are headed 930 years into the future. Because of this, the DSC writers finally have a clean slate! There are no more canon restraints! They can invent ANY history they want for the Federation, for the universe, for DSC. What do you think they'll do?

Please, this is NOT the place to revisit old complaints or to fight for a new spin off show which will be a sure hit! If that is what you want to do, set up that discussion, I might join you there. Also, I would like to appeal to posters to NOT to use the abbreviation 'STD' when referring to DSC. Apart from it's obvious negative connotation it also breaks from the conventions used for Star Trek series abbreviations. We don't say 'Star Trek The Original Series ' (STTOS) or 'Star Trek The Next Generation' ( STTNG) or 'Star Trek Deep Space 9' (STDS9), we simply say TOS, TNG and DS9 respectively. Similarly we do not need to add the prefix ST for discovery. DSC or DISCO will suffice.

So, what about season 3? What would you like and what do you think will happen if the two are not the same? What will season 3 be like?

A DSC SEASON 3 THEORY:

The ST short 'Calypso' plays a big part in the future DSC will encounter. They arrive in the middle of the war which the soldier (Craft) is rescued from by DSC's computer which has used the Sphere data to enhance its abilities. In 'Calypso' the computer says it's crew has been absent for about a thousand years however I think most of those years are as a result of the 930 year time jump. Craft, is a descendant of the people of Terralysium whom DSC visited in 'New Eden' season 2 episode 2. In this future time, they are currently in a decade old war with VDrash (The Federation). The reason for that war is not clear, even to Craft. I am theorizing that DSC's visit to New Eden left them with some technology which accelerated their scientific development...and negatively affected the future timeline...causing the current devastating war.

The DTI (Department of Temporal Investigation) contacts DSC and crew and explains that to fix the timeline they need to go back in time to reverse or arrest Terralysium's technological development so the war would never happen. After Craft arrives back home, his shuttle craft and experience surprises the DSC crew who, in reality, have only recently abandoned her. They theorize the ship's computer may already be sufficiently advanced to help them travel back in time. They rejoin DSC and attempt a smaller jump back in time, or attempt a jump back that is only partially successful. They arrive at a time after VOY and DS9 and successfully correct the timeline.

Broad strokes folks, the DTI need not be involved and I would actually prefer that they aren't. DSC's crew abandons her in order to hide in a nearby war torn M Class planet where their 930 year technological disadvantage is less obvious and they discover the timeline problem themselves. They encounter other problems along the way but this is a very general outline. The advantage would be that the show can give us serious glimpses into the 930 year future but settle DSC and it's crew back down to a time a few years ahead of DS9 and Voyager.

No canon issues, no technology problems, plenty of opportunities to refer back to VOY and DS9 characters which some fans seem to love so much!
