Why does Hollywood do this?

I tried to interest a friend in the series last year, but he heard the "joke" about "Cincinatti is the Mediocre Place" and lost interest.
Hollywood writers need to get over expressing their contempt of "flyover" America. It can cost ratings in a novel series that needs them.

If that's enough to keep people from watching, then good riddance. I seriously doubt no one from Cincinnati is watching The Good Place.
