Definitely not as smart as her sister. In all fairness to poor Maddie though, it can be hard to see things you don't really want to believe. She had this sense that something was wrong when Bram showed up. But it wasn't until the red hat mentioned all the attackers were in their teens or twenties that the gears finally clicked. I wonder if she didn't turn him in only because it wouldn't matter why she was harboring one of her fugitive family, she'd be blamed regardless, or because she felt some residual sense of loyalty too?

It's definitely the latter, she could've simply said she was under duress like the RAP asked her. She felt betrayed by her sister, but that doesn't mean she stopped caring at all.
