Discuss Marvel's Iron Fist

TRIVIA

The Iron Fist comic book series was originally inspired by the success of the Kung Fu (1972) television series. The hidden land of K'un L'un was inspired by various stories, including James Hilton's Lost Horizon and tales of Tibet. Much of the original series was inspired by the Golden Age Centaur Comics character Amazing Man, who was a westerner who gained super abilities while studying in a hidden Tibet'like land. Amazing Man, as his civilian identity of John Aman, was added to Iron Fist continuity in the Immortal Iron Fist series.

Rosario Dawson is the only actress to appear in all four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Netflix: Daredevil (2015), Jessica Jones (2015), Luke Cage (2016), and Iron Fist (2017).

Colleen Wing, in the Marvel comic books, is the best friend and crime fighting partner of Misty Knight. Knight, portrayed by Simone Missick, is a main character in Luke Cage (2016).

In the comics, Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) is the uncle of Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup), but in the series, they are brother and sister.

Finn Jones trained for four hours daily before filming began, two hours of martial arts training, and two hours of weightlifting. For his physical look, Jones said that he did not want to bulk up. He wanted a very "toned and athletic" look rather than look like a "muscle-bound gym rat."

The iron fist previous to Danny Rand was Orson Randall, a combat veteran of World War I that used "gun fu" (as opposed to Kung fu). One rumor suggests that he could be played by Chow Yun Fat, since his roles in Jon Woo films served as inspiration for the character.

Iron Fist's partner in the comics is Luke Cage, who also has his own show on Netflix.

The Marvel character of Sabretooth (Victor Creed), who has a well-known history with the X-Men (Wolverine in particular), originally began as a non-powered serial killer in Iron Fist issue #14 (August 1977). It was only later that he was written as a mutant who possesses bestial superhuman abilities, most notably a rapid healing factor, razor-sharp fangs and claws, and superhuman senses with a past connection to Wolverine.

Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick were both on the TV series Game of Thrones (2011).

Lewis Tan initially auditioned for the role of Danny Rand/Iron Fist before being cast as Zhou Cheng.

Iron Fist was trained in the land of K'un Lun, along with a few other heroes from the comics.

Series' showrunner Scott Buck admitted that he was "rather reluctant" to join the series and that what first began to warm him up to the idea of working on the project was seeing just how great and successful Daredevil (2015) ended up being. Basically, he wanted to make sure it was not just a comic book show and that there could be a wealth of character development.

Ray Park was rumored to be Danny Rand/Iron Fist from 2002, when talk started about the possibility to make a movie about the superhero, after his appearances in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) and X-Men (2000).

Alain Moussi, Christian Howard, Luke Bracey and Erryn Arkin were all considered for the Iron Fist role.

Prior to the casting of Finn Jones, many people expressed hope that Iron Fist would be portrayed by an East Asian actor. When the Caucasian Jones was cast, many criticized the decision, including Marvel writer Marjorie Liu and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013) actress Chloe Bennet.
