Angelo's proposal to Cookie on live TV followed by Cookie admitting her true feelings for Lucious was the best scene I have seen on this show for long time
If Angelo was using his head, he could have seen that Cookie still had feelings for Lucious. Why oh! why would he put himself in this position?
His breakdown when Cookie finally admitted the truth was extremely funny. I have never laughed so hard. Why he would insult Cookie and call her family garbage is beyond me.
Very good episode indeed :raised_hands_tone4

I actually felt sorry for Angelo. As soon as he came into the room with the mic on, I knew things were about to get real though. I didn't like that Cookie got mad at him because he proposed on live TV because Jamal stated she liked grand gestures. He's her son, so why wouldn't he take his advice. It was obvious he was nervous about asking, so sometimes that clouds one's judgement. Which is why I think he couldn't see that Cookie still has feelings for Lucious. She's stated a MILLION times that her and Lucious are over, as well as others, so it's not hard to believe that he would believe it because that's what he wanted to believe. Again, his judgment was clouded.
As for the breakdown, while disappointed in his disrespectful behavior, I do understand where it came from. He did compromise both himself and his campaign for her, and to find out that she's been lying to him, had to really hurt. While having Cookie in his life actually helped his campaign, he took a HUGE risk being with her, and he did it because he wanted to be with her above all else. Things could've turned out very different, but it was a risk he was willing to take. Not to mention all the strings he pulled to help her and her family. Yeah, I got to admit, I too would've lost my cool in that situation. I mean to hear that the only real reason she was with him was because she felt that that's what her father would've wanted, that had to hurt deep. The more I think about, the more I feel sorry for him. And to hear all this after he thinks that they just got engaged, well, I guess maybe I was being too hard when I said I was disappointed in his disrespectful behavior. He didn't get violent with her and he could've said a lot worse, so I'm going to give him a pass, now that I think about it. Brother was on one emotional roller coaster at that time.

I did feel sorry for him because he had all is hopes on the idea that Cookie would accept his proposal and Jamal mislead him too. I blame Jamal because he knows how much his mother still had 'a thing' for his father but he was 'hoping' that she would move on with Angelo. That was not right. Jamal should have been more careful with his advice to him because it didn't turn out well. It was quite hard for Cookie to have turned him down on live TV but I bet you if it was done privately, she would have admitted the truth to him, so the whole thing was just a disaster waiting to happen.
@LadyJEsq
The things he said during his breakdown was an eye-opener to me. You don't insult the woman you claim to love as "garbage". It just hits home hard the Angelo might have been looking down at Cookie and her family the way his mother was. The question then becomes, "If she was garbage then why have you been dating her?" Just wrong on all levels. It shows that Angelo has always viewed himself as above the 'likes of Cookie'. Bad impression.
@LadyJEsq
He really was. I thought he was going to explode and Cookie just stood there speechless.
He lost total control and to realize that the mic was on, OMG!!
Things are really heating up and the explosion at the end will be huge I'm sure.

For Cookie, I think Angelo represented Barry the guy she thinks she should have picked over Luscious. I honestly don't think she felt for Angelo as much as she wished she did. I think Cookie was finally being real with herself...Luscious is in her blood and it's not going to be easy to get away from him as much as she may want to. You could tell when she was telling Luscious about Angelo possibly proposing that she was expecting him to forbid her and fight for her. She thrives on the cat and mouse between her and Luscious and I think as much as being with Angelo would have been ideal, it's not what she wanted deep down.
That being said, I kinda felt bad for Angelo but wonder if that proposal on tv was more for him and his campaign than really being about him and Cookie. I just thought he would have took her somewhere big and romantic and proposed rather than doing it on tv adding the extra pressure on her to say yes.

Totally agree. as much as Cookie wanted to be with Angelo, the reasons for that were not good and the worst aspect of it all was that she WAS NOT IN LOVE with Angelo. She wanted to right her wrongs of the past by marrying someone befitting of her dad's standards but Angelo's uppity class level was something that deep down, she was not too comfortable with. Secondly, and this is just MHO, Cookie feels that she has given up so much for Lucious and her family that it is just too hard and too late to turn away from all that now. She has made too many sacrifices and it is extremely difficult for Cookie to come to terms with that fact that she spent 17 years in prison for nothing. She might as well have just walked away for Lucious back then and let him go to jail instead. Too late now. That is a very difficult thing to overcome. Angelo did not stand a chance and his mother did not help either.
@danithang
That is just the thing. Too many people in real life have been caught in situations like this where they are blindsided to say 'yes' to a proposal because it happened in an environment where they just found it difficult to say 'No'
Even though Jamal advised him to make a big drama out of it, I just think Angelo picked the wrong place and time. He could have taken her to a private romantic get-away and proposed but instead he wanted to make a show of it.
What was the point of Angelo proposing on live TV? That is a major question I am still baffled about
SMH. Great episode though. really looking forward to next week's episode.

Like most children, Jamal wants what's best for his mom. Sure it was wishful thinking that if Angelo proposed, Cookie would say yes, and then leave Lucious behind forever. I don't blame him because his heart was in the right place.
I don't agree with that at all. At no point did Angelo appear to view himself above Cookie. In fact, when Cookie was uncouth in certain situation, like when she yelled out during the opera, he always had this big bright smile like he appreciated the fact that she was afraid to show her appreciation than what would be considered the classy way. I think Angelo felt that everything his mom, and I'm sure many others not seen on screen, had told him about Cookie were true. She had just told him that the only reason she was with him, was because he was the kind of man that her father would have approved of, and not that she had real feelings for him like he had for her. That had to hurt and I'm sure he had a "revelation" that they were right. It's not uncommon for people to lash out when they're hurt, and I don't see what Angelo did to be particularly egregious. Considering the emotional roller coaster he was on, it could've been a lot worse, physical even.
Agreed! I can't wait!

Yeah, she totally felt that Angelo represented Barry. It was a sad situation all around.
I don't think there was any ulterior motive for proposing on live TV. When it comes to grand gestures, it certainly doesn't get any grandeur than that. I'm sure after his conversation with Jamal, Angelo had few reservation about asking Cookie or fear that she would say no, so there was no need to add "extra pressure on her to say yes."

I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this Angelo/Cookie pairing. I have felt from the very beginning that this was a mis-match. Angelo came from an entirely different world than Cookie and they NEVER had anything in common. Besides Angelo's mom was also another difficult person in Angelo's life that Cookie never felt comfortable around and with good reason. I was not surprised at all that things came to a screeching nasty halt and things will get even nastier because of this break-up especially as his mother has turned the issue into a personal vendetta.
Cookie still has her heart with Lucious, something she can't help. She wants to move on but I don't think Angelo was the right person for her. His whole world made her feel uncomfortable and ill at ease.
@LadyJEsq
True but there was just one problem. Cookie did not want to accept his proposal because she had come to the realization that her heart was still with Lucious. In a more private setting, this whole debacle would have been avoided. Cookie would have told him the truth.
Anyhow, it looks like things are headed for the worst and Angelo and his mama are seething with anger and out to get Cookie and her family. We'll just have to sit back and enjoy how this drama unfolds.

Please don't take my defense of Angelo as a sign that I was a fan of the pairing. I was not, and not because they were a mis-match (opposite attract and all that), but because Angelo was boring and lame (and it didn't help that I'm not a fan of TD, IIRC, he's been known to make disparaging comments about AAW). I preferred Cookie with that security guard. I don't recall his name, but I guess the actors couldn't sign on for an extended run, otherwise I don't know why they didn't keep his character around.
Simply because they didn't have anything in common doesn't mean they couldn't had a long lasting relationship. There are plenty of examples of this throughout history. Including one about a king who abdicated so he could marry a woman for a different social class and not have to deal with the pressures his family/society would place on them. And I think since the dinner party, Cookie has been extremely comfortable in Angelo's life. She took a 'this is my family, take us or leave us' attitude, and I don't think she's felt uncomfortable since then in his world.
I don't think she knew that until he actually proposed. We saw from the scene with Lucious that she knew the proposal was coming. If she knew she was going to say no, I think she would've given Angelo plenty of signs. Based on her conversation with Lucious, I think she thought she was going to say yes, but she wanted to make sure that Lucious wasn't going to be a problem for them after they were engaged.
Agreed!
Please don't take my discord to mean that I'm being hostile or that I don't think we're both stating our opinions.
