I get that this is called Better Call Saul, however since you know what happens to all the characters from breaking bad, does it take away something from this series? For example, despite what happens to Mike on this series, he goes onto to become a major player in the Breaking Bad series, so does that take away something from this series?

you know what happens to Vito Corleone in the Godfather......it didn't lessen his story in Godfather 2 seeing what happened in the beginning

I think it adds more to the series. I like seeing how the characters got to where they are. I'm looking forward to Gus and Mike's first encounter and how they became close. Also how Hector got into the wheelchair and Jimmy becoming Saul. Love this show.

To me it does take away because I wanted this show to stand on its own.

To me, it's both. On one hand, it's cool to see how they get to their respective places in BB but on the other, it takes away any sense of fear or worry for the characters... any precarious situation Mike or Jimmy or Gus or Tuco get into, there's no suspense or worry for them because we know they make it out alive. That's the problem with prequels.

No. BCS is about where they came from and how they got where they end up. It will work depending on how well it's told. So far, it's one of the best shows on tv, at a time when that really says a lot.

No, I don't think so. It's fun to see these characters, even the minor ones, turn up in BCS. We know how many of them end up, so it's just neat to see their pre-BB lives. Plus, BCS has lots of interesting new characters. It's a good mix.

I don't think the BB characters take away from the BCS. But then I am that person who reads ahead in books.

I have a coworker that watches Better Call Saul. She has never seen Breaking Bad, so for her its all new. she will watch Breaking Bad when BCS ends she said.. In fact she didn't even know the 2 shows were connected until i mentioned it to her. She is fascinated by Jimmy and didn't understand why they even called the show Better Call Saul. She thinks the show is great having no information or background on Breaking Bad.

Oh I know. I love BB. I told her I would rewatch series when she starts it. Who knows when that will be, but I think it's kind of neat she's actually watching the BCS/BB universe storyline in chronological order. Kinda like watching the Star Wars movies in order

I envy anyone who watches BB for the first time. It sure is one of the best shows in TV history.

This would be a most interesting way to watch it! As to the OP's post: I'm only watching BCS because of BB. I mean, I'm not even sure if I would be drawn to it otherwise. That said, I find myself doing a lot of mental gymnastics when new characters show up from the BB series. There was so much content and I'm not the best at keeping things straight!
Rewatching BB after BCS is done is not a bad idea at all! :D

I kind of agree with this. I love seeing the BB characters make an appearance, its just a nice Easter eggs for viewers who have seen both. Plus, it's not like BCS is set in a different state or something, so it would make sense to see the BB characters before everything. I do agree that when Jimmy or Mike get into scary situations, we know they are going to get out of it because of their roles in BB.

Vince gilligan is very aware of this and has talked about it in inteviews. He says he hopes viewers can enjoy the journey, given that we already know the destination. And I think they do a pretty darn good job of it. Yes we know the fates of saul and tuco and what have you. But what about kim? What about chuck? There are enough new characters for me to enjoy it and forgive the others. Not to mention they flesh out all of the old characters more than ever before, namely saul. Best to think of breaking bad as one long tarantino style beginning to this show when watching this.
