It looks like "The First 48" is still season locked, meaning we cannot add more seasons. I know there was earlier confusion with with A&E splitting a season for some reason, but that seems to be resolved. We're now at Season 24, while TMDB is stuck at 22.
And they are hard headed enough to never get it resolved. I gave up!!!
I'm more than happy to go through all 24 seasons, using data from A&E TV (and others) to fix them all up. I thought it was correct, but looking back I can see it's not still, for example what TMDB has for S22 is really S24.

Hi! As I've previous asked of @transamman, please read through previous content issue reports. We explain why the order is different and why the current seasons are correct per the database guidelines.

Okay, I think I see what's going on here, and my apologies for not spotting it. Unfortunately it breaks other things (plex, trakt, tvdb), and everybody else seems to be following the A&E TV Website, which one would consider to be "official". For others that stumble on this in the future:
A&E TV seem to have 2 series styles running - Cable TV and Digital/Web.
Around season 19, the Cable TV and Digital series seemed to have forked between season 19 and 20, there are other differences in a couple of other seasons as well.
In TMDB you can see the digital series by going to the front page of The First 48, seeing where it says "Current Season" and to the right shows "Original Air Date". If you hover over that you get a drop down to the digital seasons. This episode group is aligned with AETV.com
Other sites such as tvmaze and epguide show the series aligned with TMDB based on original air date on cable tv.
Wikipedia's listings also appear to be incorrect, and don't even line up with aetv.com or other sources.
According to TVMaze season 22 has 26 episodes, TMDB only lists 5
Half the season 22 on tvmaze is listed as season 21 on tmdb.
Season 23 started yesterday (2023-12-28) with "Innocents Lost" (AETV.com lists it as S24E08 air date 2023-12-28)
TVGuide.com lists the episode "Innocents Lost" as "new" but half their site doesn't work so I cannot tell what they have it listed as.
So when does tmdb decide to create a new season? Or who decides it's a new season? The page on seasons on the TV Bible does not define a start or end of a season, and one would think it'd be when the cable provide or the producer of the series says it's a new season.

Whenever they start a new season we add it here as the next season. What we don't do is go back and change all the already aired season every time a network decides to change their season schema.
Episodes groups have been around for many years now, I don't know why some website/app that use TMDb still don't use them. They were created for cases exactly like this one.

Well tvdb and trakt both list it as season 23 while tmdb lists it as season 21. Everybody can't be wrong, can they?

Will not ever happen. To allow would admit the mistake.

Can't tell if you're joking around or not. Who admit what mistake? That it got locked?

So why can't the current season be added? Because it is locked.
